MUL TIBRAND UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL Battery Installation and Operation 1 Install the two suppli ed AA batteries as shown. 2 Aim the remote control at the VCR and press the desired buttons to operate. IMPORTANT NOTE: SPENT OR DISCHARGED BATTERIES MUST BE RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF IN A SAFE MANNER IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE LAWS.
MUL TIBRAND UNIVERSAL REMOTE CONTROL For cable (CATV) conve rter/decoder or DSS (Digital Satellite System) rece ive r opera tion 1 In the chart, find the code corresponding to y our brand of cable converter/decoder or DSS receiver. 2 While holding down the CATV/DSS button, pr ess 2 number buttons ( 0 – 9 ) to enter the code.
BASIC ANTENNA/CABLE CONNECTIONS 1 Connect an antenna (or a cable TV system) to the VCR. 2 Connect the VCR to the TV with the 75 ohm coaxi al cable (supplied). 3 Plug the power cord (supplied) into the A C power input (AC IN ~) on the VCR back panel. Insert the plug firmly.
AL TERNA TIVE CABLE TV CONNECTIONS Your VCR can receive all unscrambled cabl e channels without the use of an external conver ter. If you wish to view and record scrambled cable c hannels, you must connect a converter/decoder as des cribed below. BASIC OPERATION INITIAL SETUP When you are setting up the VCR for the first time, or after the power has failed for more than 5 seconds, foll ow the steps below. This AUTO S ETUP operation automatically sets the RF output channel , enters all available channel s in your area into the VCR tuner memory and sets the VCR internal cl ock.
INITIAL SETUP To modify the RF output channel setting after the Auto setup is complete d 1 With the VCR turned off, press the SET button for about 3 seconds or more. The current RF output channel setting wil l light on the indicator panel and wil l appear on the screen.
BASIC OPERATION MUL TIFUNCTION ON-SCREEN DISPLA YS Various display s appear, superimposed over the sc reen image, indicating the operation mode and featur es in use. Operation Mode Display When an operation button is pressed, the cor responding operation mode icon is dis played in the top left corner of the screen for about 3 seconds.

ON-SCREEN MENU Displaying the VCR Setup Menus œ Turn on the power (TV and VCR). œ Set the TV to channel 3 or 4. œ Press the VCR button on the r emote control to selec t the VCR operation mode. œ If the VCR indicator is off, press the TV/ VCR button on the remote control.
SETTING THE CLOCK Generally, during the i nitial setup, your VCR wi ll automatically set the cl ock by detecting a c hannel that is transmitting the XDS (Extended Data S ervices) si gnal. However, if the XDS s ignal necessary for Automati c Clock Setting was poor or unavailable at the time, Automatic Clock Setti ng may not have been possibl e.
BASIC OPERATION SETTING THE CLOCK Manual Clock Setting 1 Follow the steps in Before starting . 2 Press the MENU button. The main MENU appears. If the clock has not y et been set, the Clock set menu appears. 3 Press the ù (or û ) button to select the Clock s et option, then press the OK button.
CHANGING THE MENU LANGUAGE English, Spani sh or French can be selected by the user. œ Turn on the power (TV and VCR). œ Set the TV to channel 3 or 4. œ Press the VCR button on the r emote control to selec t the VCR operation mode. œ If the VCR indicator is off, press the TV/ VCR button on the remote control.
VIEWING TV ONL Y You do not need to disconnect the V CR from the TV in order to watch a TV program without recording it. 1 Turn off the VCR. 2 Turn on the TV and set it to the channel you want to watch. PLA YING A RENT AL T APE When you load a cassette with the s afety tab removed, the VCR starts playing i t automatically.
BASIC OPERATION NORMAL PLA YBACK œ Turn on the power (TV and VCR). œ Set the TV to channel 3 or 4. œ Load a cassette. œ Select the desired audio output mode. ( See “AUDIO OUTPUT MODE” on page 30.) 1 Press the PLAY button. Normal playback begins .
BASIC OPERATION TRACKING CONTROL Tracking Control Adjustments When you play a tape that was not recor ded on this VCR, some noise may appear in the pic ture due to incorrect head-to-tape tracking. The VCR will automatically adjust the tracking for the optimum results.
RECORDING œ Turn on the power (TV and VCR). œ Set the TV to channel 3 or 4. œ Press the VCR button on the r emote control to selec t the VCR operation mode. œ If the VCR indicator is off, press the TV/ VCR button on the remote control. The VCR indicator lights.
RECORDING Smart Speed Record Function When the Smart Speed Record functi on is set, the VCR automatically calc ulates the remaining time left on the tape during recording.
Rec. List SUPER Rec. List (Recording Contents List) Super Every time a recording i s made with this VCR, the channel number, date and start time information i s automatically recorded on the tape. When y ou call up the Rec. List super menu, the VCR sc ans the information on the tape and displays it on sc reen.
Rec. List S U PE R Entering the Program Type To have the program type included in the Rec . List super menu, you must enter the program type before proceeding to step 1 of “RECORDING” on page 25. œ The clock must be set before the program type c an be sele cted.
VHS Hi-Fi AUDIO AND MTS BROADCASTS VHS Hi-Fi VCRs record and play back two kinds of audio tracks: Hi-Fi ster eo tracks (left and right) and a normal (linear) audio track. œ The Hi-Fi tracks contain two s eparate signals (for example, the left and right channel s of a stereo program or the main and second S AP* signals).
AUDIO OUTPUT MODE Use the VCR setup menu to selec t the desired audio output mode when playing a tape or viewing a tel evision broadcast. NOTE: Audio output mode selection i s not required when playing back a tape re corded in mono or viewing a mono TV program.
SPECIAL PLA YBACK Picture Search (Forward and Reverse) 1 Press the FF or REW button during normal playbac k. The picture plays for ward or backward rapidl y. 2 Press the PLAY button to resume normal playbac k. FR (Fast Response) Search 1 Press the FF button (in fast forward mode) or the REW button (in rewind mode).
ZERO SEARCH Use the zero search function to go back to the beginning of a program immediately after you have recor ded it. 1 Press the DISP LAY button. The status displ ay appears. 2 Press the RES ET button. The tape counter resets to 0:00:00. 3 Begin playback or recording.
PROGRAM TIMER RECORDING The Program Timer switches y our VCR on and off to record a TV program at a preset time. On any occ asion, you can preset a maximum of 8 programs to be recor ded during the next 1-year period.

PROGRAM TIMER RECORDING Setting a Program Timer Recording Using the Buttons on the VCR If the remote control does not operate or is not avail able you can use the buttons on the VCR front panel to s et a program timer recording. NOTE: Eject the cassette tape, before proceeding wi th the steps below.
PROGRAM TIMER RECORDING Using Timer Recording for Several Programs If two or more programmed recording times overlap on the same day, the VCR will not begin recording a new program until the previous program has ended (as s hown below).
QUICK TIMER RECORDING (QTR) As the name suggests, the QTR feature provides a quick and simple way to set the ti mer to record. A QTR setting overrides Program Timer settings .
CHILD LOCK With the Child Lock function on, the picture is bl anked and the sound muted, virtually bl ocking the ability to v iew a videotape or TV program received through the VCR tuner. 1 Press the MENU button. COPYING A T APE You can copy recordings ( such as home videos) from one tape to another using two VCRs. 1 Connect the VCRs as shown. 2 Insert the recorded cassette into V CR 1. 3 Insert a blank tape into VCR 2. 4 Set the desired recording speed on V CR 2.
