6 1 . 4 F R O N T P A N E L Your primary inter action with your new DVR will be through the Front Panel buttons and their corresponding buttons on the included Remote Control. Take a moment to learn where the keys are a s the remainder of the manual wil l refer to them often.

12 All connected video so urces must provide a 1 V pp NTSC/EIA or PAL/CCIR standard vi deo signal (depending on DVR versio n). When interconnecting tra nsmission lines (twisted pair, fi ber optics, radio) to t he video inputs, make sure all receivers are accurately calibrated.
13 2 . 2 A U D IO I N S T A LL A T I O N The PARAGON DVR provides 16/8 audio inputs and 1 audio output. The inputs are design ed for max. 1 V pp @ 20 KOhm in put. The installation has to be effected with audio coax cabl e and RCA plugs. The output provides a m ax.
14 2 . 3 A L A R M / C O NT R OL C O N T A C T S I N S T A L L A T I O N The PARAGON alarm inputs can be used to start recor ding or adjust the current re cording rate. Furthermore, alarm reactio ns such as camera switching , buzzer, e-mail, and network alarm are available, as well as 4 alarm outp ut relays if required.

16 2. 4. 1 G en er al R S - 48 5 bu s in s ta l la ti on The EKB-500 keyboard use s an RS-485 simplex wiring; the signal is transferred via a single twisted pair line. CAT5 network cable is recommended, UPT ver sion (unshielded) is sufficient for normal application.
17 An RS-485 distributor can also be used to increase the maximum number of d evices on the bus as well as the total range. Each distributor output provides anothe r RS-485 bus.
18 2. 4. 5 S pe ed D om e In s ta l la t io n Speed dome or telemetry re ceiver pan/tilt/zoom control is available through web browser or the optional PowerCon software if th e DVR is connected to a netw ork. Local telemetry control i s provided by USB - mouse control or by the o ptional EKB-500 keybo ard.
19 2 . 7 N E T W O R K C O N N E C T I O N This section only describes physical connection to an Ethernet network. This st ep must be completed before the DVR can co nnect to the network. For details on setting up the DVR for network connection, see Chapter 5.

21 3 M O U S E A N D F R O N T P A N E L O P E R A T I O N Paragon series D VR supports m ultiple sources to cont rol the DVR. It can be cont rolled with a m ouse, the front panel, an EKB50 0, the handheld remote control, o r serial command from RS2 32 port.

Refer to “4.2 LOGIN” for inf ormation on logging in. The Main menu (shown in Figure 3-2 OSD Menu ) is divided into 3 main sections.

27 4 G E N E R A L D V R O P E R A T I O N S This chapter introduces the operations on major functions including playback, l ayout change, sequence, triplex operations, copy , and search. 4 . 1 R E C OR D By default, the Paragon series DVR will always be in record mode.
28 + To input password by mouse: click the password field to bring up the on -screen keyboard (see Figure 4-2 On-screen Keyboard). Click on each button to input t he desired characters for the password. When finis hed, click “ Done” on the on-scre en keyboard to confirm the password.

35 4. When in ZOOM mode, the mouse cursor will change to a different icon in different areas of the screen. User can control PTZ dir ection, zoom, and focus by clicking directly on scre en: Figure 4-4 Zoom Express Control The screen is divided into a 4x4 grid.

39 Grid Setting: Choose which a reas of the motion grid will be included in the search. The areas you set in motion search must also be active in the m otion settings of the Camera Setti ng Menu. Use the mouse to drag y our desired area. Press “ Set All ” button to se lect the entire area.
40 Archive To: Select whet her you want to copy to U SB or DVD. Data Size: Shows the estimated total size for t he selected time period. (Because the Paragon is Linux based, you may notice a sli ght size difference in th e file between DVR an d PC) Archive Now: Press “ Archive ” button to start archiving.
41 5 D V R C O N F I G U R A T I O N This chapter will walk you through the DVR Menu Settings step by step and show you how to set the DVR for your specific applicatio n.
42 Date: Set the current dat e of DVR. Time: Set the current tim e of DVR. Resolution: Select recordin g resolution based on video format. NTSC: 704x480 / 704x 240 / 352x240 PAL: 704x576 / 704x28 8 / 352x288 Record Mode: Blank: No change for Rec ord Mode Normal+Event: Normal r ecording plus event recording.
43 DHCP: DHCP server in L AN will automatically assign I P for network connection . PPPoE: For direct DSL con nection ONLY. Check with y our ISP if they use PPPoE. IP Address: This field shows the current IP Address for the DVR. A Fixed IP address must be set manually.
44 5. 3. 1 Ba s ic S et t in g Camera: Select the camera number. Title: The title setting allo ws you to assign a title to selected camera. Each title supports u p to 16 characters. The on-scree n keyboard will appear wh en you click the title option.
45 PTZ ID: When using a PTZ Camera, this ID must match the ID used by the connected camera in order to control the camera usin g the DVR. Click “ Done” to confirm selection, “ Cancel” to cancel selection. Apply To: This button can be used to copy the recording settings to other cameras.
46 Apply To: This button can be u sed to copy the video settings to other cameras. Select which cameras you wish to copy to. "Select All" s elects all cameras, “Unselect All” deselects all cameras. Click “OK” to copy the settings or "Cancel" to exit without copying.
47 No change: No chan ge on the call monitor display. Full screen: A full screen of the active camera will displa y on the call monitor. Pre-alarm Record: Check box to record several moments before the motion event.

64 5 . 6 S C H E D UL E S E T T I N G Figure 5-20 is a screen shot of the SCHEDULE SE TTING MENU . In this menu you can set a unique timer to start recording during a specified time period. This menu is used to configure Express Setup, Holidays and Schedule settings.
65 Event Action: Check this box to enable Buzzer, Alarm out, E-mail and Netw ork actions when an event occurs on the selected ti me period. Apply: Press Apply button bring up a con firmation w indow. Select “Yes” to confirm and apply express schedule settings or “ No” to cancel changes.

67 Schedule Setting using Fro nt Panel 1. Enter schedule setting mode : press Ent er button to en ter sche dule setting mode. At this time, th e whole editing area at rig ht-down side will be highlight ed with a light blue frame. Se e below image. 2. Enter camera selection mode : turn J og wheel to switch to Camera selection mode.
68 6. Editing blocks in a time bar : when a tim e bar is s elected (highlighted in red frame), press Enter button, th en the first block of this bar will be highlighted in blue. Turn Jog wheel to select the desired starting block. Press Enter butt on to cycle through the colors (gray > ora nge > blue).
69 Normal: Record rate in frames per second (FPS) for continuous recording. The speed is limited to the maximum recording rate o f the DVR divided by the num ber of installed cameras. Event Speed: Record rate in frames per second (FPS) for event recording.
70 5 . 7 N E T W O R K S E T T I N G Figure 5-24 is a screen shot of the NETWORK SETTING MENU . This menu is for configuring the DVR for a network connection. NOTE: Since every Network Configura tion is different, please check with y our Network Administrator or ISP to see if your DVR req uires specific IP addresses and/or port numbers.

87 6 N e t w o r k i n g O v e rv i e w This chapter will give you a basic instruction on how t o set up the DVR for network connection. It is highly recommended that you have a working knowledge of what a network is and how it works. This will be helpful in completing the networking process.
88 6 . 4 V i r t u a l P o r t s A port numb er represents a "channel" or entryway for n etwork communications. Po rt numbers allow different applications on the same computer to utilize ne twork resources without interfering with each other.
