INTRODUCTION LBI-3907 7 5 INTRODUCTION This manual describes how to installation and use the GT I (Global Telep hone Interconnect) Configurator softw are to configu re the GTI units used in th e ELI option.
L BI-39077 INSTALLATION 6 2. Insert either the 5-1/4" or 3-1/2" GTI Con fig urator s oftw are disk into an available f loppy drive. For th is procedure, it has been assumed that drive A is used. 3. Type “A:” and press the Enter key. The characters A:>_ should now be displayed on the next line of the screen.

GETTING STARTED LBI-3907 7 9 • The operation menu window is located just be low the selected (highlighted) group in the group menu line, and lists the individual operations that can be selected within the selected group.
L BI-39077 GETTING STARTED 10 • The Telco config operation is used for param eters that are specifi c to an individu al telephone line connected to a GTI unit. • The DID numbers operation is used f or parameters that are specif ic to DID use on a specif ic system of GTI units at a specific location.
GETTING STARTED LBI-3907 7 11 When the desired operation is selected (highlighted), press the Enter key and follow the on-screen instructions, including any directions in the HEL P win dow an d any m essage in the alert and status message f ield. Press the Esc key one or m ore times to return to the Main Menu screen.

The next scr een y ou will see contains an INDEX w indow and a HELP w indow. From the INDEX window , select (highlight) the system wh ere you want the selected operation performed, and press the Enter key.

L BI-39077 GETTING STARTED 14 Get/Verify Use the get/verify operation to get the current GTI da tab ase from the GTI units in the selected system, and verify it against the current GTI database for that sy stem in the GTI Configurator . Figure 6 show s a sample Get/Verify menu screen w ith the Entire category selected.

L BI-39077 GETTING STARTED 16 Monitor Use the Monitor operation to set up th e Real-Time Monitorin g m ode for the selected sy stem. Fig ure 8 show s a sample Interconnect Monitor screen. GETTING STARTED LBI-3907 7 19 Other Use the Other operation for m iscellaneous functions such as changing passwords, setting the date/time, clearing the call detail buffer, and changing the modem initialization string. Figure 12 sho w s a sam ple Other menu screen w ith the Set category selected.

L BI-39077 GETTING STARTED 22 FILE GROUP The File group of op erations is the fourth group shown in the Main Menu. Figure 15 shows a sample Main Menu screen with the File group selected. When this grou p is first selected, the Print o peration is automatically selected.

Figure 16 show s a sample Print menu screen having the single By typ e category . When this category is first show n, the System config operation is automatically selected.

L BI-39077 DATA LINK TO GTI UNITS 36 REMOTE DATA LINK WITH INTERNAL GTI MODEM If th e distance betw een the GTI unit and GTI Config urator is longer than 50 feet, m odems w ill be needed on each en d of a telephone circuit betw een them. The sim plest method is to utilize the 1200 bps m odem built into the GTI unit.

L BI-39077 DATA LINK TO GTI UNITS 38 NOTE If the GTI Configurator fails to make contact with the GTI unit, try the following: Check the cabling. Check the COM port selection. Make sure your modem is powered on. Verify that the interrupt jumpers for the COM port are set right: IRQ4 for COM1 or IRQ3 for COM2.

After selecting an operation from the Com m gro up in the Main Menu screen and selecting the system, y ou will need to wait for the answ er pr om pt, then press the Enter key to tell the GTI Co nf igurator to send the o verdial digits to connect the internal modem and begin sending the originate tone.
L BI-39077 DATA LINK TO GTI UNITS 40 • Set the modem to automatically answer incomming calls. • Set the modem to not echo off line commands. • Set the m odem to supress th e addition of /ARQ to the end of commands su ch as CONNECT9600, CONNECT2400, etc.

L BI-39077 DATABASE 42 DATABASE The Edit group of operations allow s you to add to, change, or delete information in the GTI Configurator user datab ase. Management of this information is divided into the following three operations: System config - One Sy stem Configu ration record is required for each sy stem.
DATABASE LBI-39077 43 Figure 32 - System Configuration Screen If a system is currently configu red, y ou m ust select a specif ic system in th e INDEX window before you can view or edit its user data fields. The INDEX window shows fou r user data fields f or up to nine sy stems at a time.

T his field defines the telephone number of the subscriber lin e connected to a GTI unit in th e system (when th e internal m odem is selected), or to an external modem in the system (when the external modem is selected).
DATABASE LBI-39077 45 • Tone Level - This field (for each prom pt message) is used to def ine the loudness level of th e message. Enter a number from 1 to 7, where 7 is the loudest. (Default = 5) • Vc Tm - This field (for each prompt m essage) is used to define the nu mber of seconds that you wish to allocate for this voice prompt.

L BI-39077 DATABASE 48 • Base DID Adder: Enter the base phone num ber used to access th is DID line. This num ber is typically a seven digit number where the last X digits (where X is the number of feed digits) are zero.
DATABASE LBI-39077 49 When you have finished configuring a system for the first tim e, or after r eco nfiguring o ne or more par ameters fo r a p revio usly configu red system , press the F10 key to save th e record. You m ay contin ue to enter new records for system s or chang e existing ones.
L BI-39077 DATABASE 50 Templates As y ou set up y our database for the first time or add new records to a working database, you will soon find that m any records look alike. To save y ou typing time, you can define a set of 10 different "data templates" with the Alt- Fn key.

BALANCE AND LEVEL LBI-3907 7 59 A bar graph will appear with the current level received by the GTI on the microwave line. In order to pro perly perform this adjustment, the GTI unit must generate a tone into the phone line. Press the 'TAB' key to turn on the adjustment tone.
L BI-39077 VOICE PROMPTS 60 VOICE PROMPTS OVERVIEW Voice prompts is the m ost flexible ty p e of telephone call prompts available in the ELI option. (T elephone call p rompts are an aid to a telephon e user, and do not apply to a radio user.) Other choi ces are tone prom pts and no prom pts.
VOICE PROMPTS LBI-3907 7 61 The GTI configurator provides a f lexible method of allocating tim e among voice prom pts, and designating w hich (if any ) prompts are to be play ed. When you enter Y in the Edit Voice Prompts fi eld in the Sy stem Config uration screen (see Figure 35), a PROMPTS pop-up win dow will appear.

L BI-39077 BILLING FILES 64 BILLING FILES Billing files for Call Detail Records can either be sto red in the GTICON directory or in a separate directory named GTIBILL. The GTI Configurator w ill first look for the GTIBILL directory at the root of the hard disk to p ut the files there.
BILLING FILES LBI-3907 7 65 The GTI Configurator w ill give you precise instru ction on w hen to insert your f o rm atted floppy diskettes into th e computer. Make a n ew set of backups for each w eek in the billing period. That way , you alway s have archived data f or billing should your hard disk data become damaged.
