Menu Settings and Explanations Common Settings Sleep T imer Select the time period before the printer enters sleep mode (energy saving mode) when no operations are performed. Loading P aper in the P aper Cassett e 1. Check that the prin ter is not operatin g, and then p u ll out the paper casset te. Not e: Remove the pape r cass ette cover from pape r cass ette 2 . 2. Slide the edge guides t o their maxi mu m positio n. Not e: When using pape r l arge r than A4 siz e, ex te nd the pap er cass ette .
3. Slide the front edge guide to the paper size you wan t to use. 4. W ith the prin table side facing down, load paper against the fron t edge guide . c Impor t ant: ❏ M ake sur e the paper does not extend beyond the d symbol at the end of the paper cassette.
7. On the con trol panel, set the size and type of the pap er you loaded in the pap er cassette. Not e: Y ou c an a lso disp la y th e pape r size an d pa per type setti ngs scr een by sel ecti ng Menu > Pap e r S et u p . 8. Slide out the ou tp ut tray .
3. Load pape r at the cent er of the r ear paper feed with the printable side facing u p . c Impor t ant: ❏ Do not load more tha n the maximum nu mber of s heets specied for the paper . For plain paper , do not load above th e line just unde r the d symbol inside the edge guide.
4. Slide th e edge guid es to the edg es of the paper . 5. On the contro l panel, sele ct Me nu > Pap er S e tu p > Rear P aper F eed , and then set the size an d type o f the paper y ou l oaded in the r ear paper feed. 6. Slide out the ou tp ut tray .
Pri n ti n g Prin ting from a C omputer If y ou canno t c hange so me of the p rinter dri ver set tin gs, they may have been restricted by the administrato r . 1. Prepare Sh eet 1 and Sheet 2. Cut o the margins of Sheet 1 alon g the vertical blue line through the center o f the top and botto m cross marks. 2. Place the edg e of S heet 1 o n to p o f Sheet 2 and align the cr oss mark s, then tem p oraril y tape the two sh eets tog ether fro m the back.
3. Cu t the taped shee ts in two alo ng the vertical red l ine thr ough the alignment mark ers (this time, the line t o the le of the cr oss marks). 4. T ape the sh eet s t og eth er fr om th e bac k. 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to tape Sheet 3 and Sheet 4 to gether .

Printing an A nti-Cop y Pattern (for W indow s Only) Y ou can print documents with invisib le letters such as "Cop y". ese letters ap pear when the do cument is photocopied so that the copies can b e distinguished from the original. Y ou can als o add your o wn anti-cop y pat tern .
4. Select the orientatio n you set in the ap plication as the Orientation on th e Lay o u t tab . 5. Mak e the following settings on the Pap er / Q u a l it y tab . ❏ P aper So ur ce: Select the paper so ur ce in which yo u loaded th e pape r . ❏ M e dia: Select th e type o f paper y ou loaded.

Setting Items for the P ostS cript Prin ter Driv er Not e: e availability of these settings varies by mo del. Color Mode Select whether to print in color or in monochrome. Pr ess Simulatio n Y ou can select a CMYK ink color to si mula te when y ou print b y reproducing the CMYK ink color of th e oset press .

Replacing Ink Supply Units and O ther C onsumables Checking the Status of the Remaining Ink and the Maint enanc e Bo x Y ou can check the appr oximate ink levels and the app ro ximate ser vice life of the maintenance bo x from the co ntro l pane l or the co m pu ter .
2. Click EPSO N Stat us M onit or . Ink Supply Unit C o des Epson r e commends the use of gen uine Epson ink su pply units. E pson cannot guarant ee the quality or r eliability o f non-genuine ink.
❏ Do not r emove the transparen t seal from the ink su ppl y area; o ther wise the ink suppl y unit m ay become unusab le. ❏ Do not to uch the sections sh own in the illustratio n. Doing so may p reven t no rmal operation and prin ting. ❏ In stall all ink supp ly units; o ther wise you cannot p rint.
Consumption of Ink ❏ T o main tain optim um prin t head p erformance, some ink is co nsum ed fro m all ink supp ly uni ts not o n ly during prin ting bu t also during m ainte nance operations s uch as prin t head cleaning.
3. Li up the ink su ppl y unit. Not e: If you cann ot li up the ink supply uni t, pull the handle for ward. 4. Maint enance Bo x Handling Pr ecautions Read the foll owing instructions before replacing the maintenance box. ❏ Do not touch the green chip on the side of the maintenance box.
3. Remove the us ed maintenance box. 4. Put the used maintenance box in the transparen t b ag th at came with the new main tenance box and seal the bag s h ut. c Impor t ant: Do not tilt the used main tenance bo x until aer it is sealed in the plastic bag; otherw ise ink may leak.

C onser ving Black Ink when the Black Ink Is Lo w (for Wi n d o ws O n l y ) When b lack ink is running low and ther e is eno ugh color ink r emaining, yo u can use a mixt ure o f colo r inks to create blac k. Y ou can con tinue p rintin g while preparing a replacem ent blac k ink supp ly uni t.
Impro ving Prin t Quality Checking and Cleaning the Print Head If the nozzles are clogged, the print outs become fain t, there is visible banding, or unexpecte d colors appear . When print q uality has declined, use t he nozzle check featur e an d check if the nozzles are clogged.
❏ ere are br oken lines or missing segments: e p rint head nozzles may be clogged. Go to the next step . 6. Foll ow t he on -s c ree n in str u ct ion s to cle an t he pr int hea d. 7. When c leaning is nished, p rint the nozzle check pat tern again.

EPSON Sof t ware Updater EPSON Soware U pdater is an applicatio n that checks f or new o r updated soware o n the in ternet and installs i t. Y ou can also update the prin ter's rmware and man ual. Not e: W indows Ser ver ope ra ting syst ems are not s upported.

Solving Problems Checking the Printer Status Y ou can check error messages and the app ro ximate ink levels on the LCD screen or the co mp uter . Checking Messages on the L CD S creen If an error message is displayed on the LCD screen, follow the on-screen instr uct ions or the solutio ns below to solve the problem.
