10 Getting S tarted Attaching the Strap to Your Camera Follow the steps bel ow to attac h the strap with the camer a. 1. Attach the protec tive pad and the metal rin g to one side of the camera. 2. Lace the strap end through the hole s in the protective pad a nd the metal ring.

Take the battery o ut when the cha rge lamp tu rns off. Af ter charging the battery, unplug the battery charger’s plug from the outlet.
12 Getting S tarted 1. Make sure that the camera is off, and then open the b attery cover as shown below. 2. Inse rt the ba ttery. Insert the battery into the camer a until it clicks, making sure the orientation of the battery is correct. 3. Close the battery cover.

14 Getting S tarted Removing a memory card 1. Make sure the SD memory access LED is unlit, and t hen open the memory card cover. c Caution: Never remove a memory card while the access lamp is on. Doing so may cause data in the card to be lost or damaged.

16 Getting S tarted 2. Turn the M-Bayonet adapter ri ng clockwise, then remove the cover. 3. Align the lens mount screw with that of the M-Bayonet adapter ring, and turn the lens clockwise until it clicks. c Caution: Be careful to not tig hten the lens too tigh tly to the camera.

18 Getting S tarted 3. Confirm th at the value for year is high lighted, and rotate the JO G dial clockwise or counterclockwise to change the value. Note: When you rotate the JOG dial clockwise, the value will be increased. To decrea se the valu e, rotate the JOG dial counterclockwise.

20 Getting S tarted Resetting all settings to default values If necessary, you can use this functi on to initialize all current settings to their default settings as shown below. Follow the steps below to reset the initi al settings. 1. Select Initialize Settings in the Came ra Settings menu using the JOG dial, and press th e ENTER button.

22 Taking Pictures Setting Photo Quality Before taking phot os using the camera, photo quality (image format, size, and compress ion ratio) must be s pecified. Set photo q uality according to how you plan to use your image data. Photo quality setting When taking photos using the camer a, images are saved in JPEG or RAW format.
Taking Pictures 23 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2. Rotate the JOG dial to select the desir ed white balance (light source). You can select from Auto , Sunny , Shade , Cloudy , Incandescent , or Fluorescent . Note: You can check the selected white balanc e setting on the needle indicator.
24 Taking Pictures 3. Maneuver the shutter charge lever . 4. Focus on the subject. 5. Press the shutter-release button all th e way down. Shutter speed is automati cally set in an appropriate exposure, and a picture is taken.

Note: ❏ If you set the shutter speed at a high value, you can shoot even a fast moving subject as if it is a stationary subject. ❏ To avoid blurring, set the shutter spee d faster than “1 se c.
Taking Pictures 27 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 3. Press the shutter-release button halfway. The optimal shutte r speed (i.e., optimal exposure value) b links, and the current shutter speed is lighted, in the viewfinder. 4. Rotate the shutter speed dial to the optimal shutter speed value.
28 Taking Pictures 2. Select Color or Mon ochrome . To set the color to color , select Color using the JOG dial a nd press the ENTER button. The color setting is complete and the screen returns to the Camera Set tings menu. To set the color to monoch rome, select Monochrome using the JOG dial and press t he MENU button.

To view the photos on the camera, invert the LCD monitor toward you and press the LCD button.

38 Using the LCD Monit or Chapter 4 Using the LCD Monitor How to Use the LCD Monitor You can use the LCD monitor to view photos in the pla yback mode or make settings for the camera functions. When using the LCD mon itor, invert it toward you and press the LCD button.
