10 Sett ing Up the TV Outdoor Antenna Installation and Gr ounding • I t is best to have a professional technician install an antenna on the roof of a structur e.
Setti ng Up the TV 11 Placement for Optimum Viewing Y our TV’ s screen is designed to giv e you great pictur e quality ov er a wide viewing angle. F or optimum viewing, place the TV so you can view it as sho wn below . Sit about 6 to 10 feet away from the TV , and within 65° to the left or right.
12 Sett ing Up the TV If y ou use your own stand, make sure i t can secur e ly suppo rt the TV as follo ws: Make sur e you place the stand i n a location that allo ws you access to the bac k of the TV and provides at least 1 2 inch es (30 c m) of roo m for ven tila tion at the sides .
Setti ng Up the TV 13 2 Align the holes in the shelf with the holes on the back of the TV . 3 U s ing a Phillips-head screwdrive r , secu re the shelf to the TV with the four screws that came with it.
14 Sett ing Up the TV Connecting the Cables Y ou can connect the TV to a variety of equipment. Follow the steps in the ap plicable sections below , depending on the equipment you ’ re connecting and the type of co nnector or ser vice you ’ re u sin g.
Setti ng Up the TV 15 Antenna or Direct Cable TV Connection Connect the TV to an outside antenna or to your cabl e system using a 75-ohm coaxi al cable. Connect the cable co ming into the house to th e ANT 1 connect or on th e back of the T V . If your coaxial cable has a screw-type connector on the end, secure it by turning the end clock wise.
16 Sett ing Up the TV Cable Box Connections The connection method differ s, depending on th e type of cable box you have. Y our cable box may unscramble si gnals for all of yo ur channels or it may unsc ramble onl y some of them.
Setti ng Up the TV 17 Cable Box Unscramble s Only Some of Y our Cha nnels If y our cable bo x unscramb les signals f or only so me of your c hannels, connect it as follows: 1 Connect the cable coming i nto the hous e to the ANT 1 connec tor on the b ack of the TV .
18 Sett ing Up the TV Digital TV (HDTV) Receiver with a DVI-HDTV Connection 1 T urn off and unplug your TV and your di gital TV receiv er . 2 Connect one end of a DVI-HDTV cable to the DVI-HDTV Input connec tor on the back of the TV . 3 Connect the other end of the DVI-HDTV c able to the DVI-HDTV OUT connector on you r dig it al T V rec eive r .
Setti ng Up the TV 19 Digital TV (HDTV) Receiver with Component Video Conne ction 1 T urn off and unplug your TV and your digital TV receiv er . 2 Connect o ne end of the co mponent video cable to any availabl e set of Y (green), PB (blue ), and PR (red) connec tors on the back of the TV .
20 Sett ing Up the TV DVD Player With Component V ideo Connection 1 Connect one end of the component v ideo cable to any available set of Y (green), PB (blue), and PR (red) connector s on the bac k of the TV . 2 Connect the other end of th e component vid eo cable to th e correspon ding colo r Component Video Out con nector s on y our DVD p layer .
Setti ng Up the TV 21 DVD Player With an S-Video Connection 1 Connect o ne end of an S-Video cab le to one of the S-Vide o connec tors on the back o f the TV or to the o ne on the front of the TV bene ath the connector cover . 2 Connect the other end of the S -Video cable to th e S-Vi deo connector on your DVD player .
22 Sett ing Up the TV Satellite Receiver Connection If you ’ll also be attaching a VCR to the TV , you need t o use a different co nnection method s o you can record TV programs. See “ VCR and Satellite Receiver Connection ” on page 26. 1 T urn off and unplug your TV and your satellite receiv er .
Setti ng Up the TV 23 VCR Connection F ollow th ese ste ps to connect a V CR by itse lf . If you ’ re connec ting a cable, cab le box, or satellite rece iver along wi th the VCR, or if you ’ re connec ting tw o VCRs for ta pe editin g, see th e inst ruction s in th e section s fol lowing this one instead .
24 Sett ing Up the TV VCR and Cable Service (Without Cable Box) Connection 1 Connect the V CR as described i n “VCR Connection ” on page 23. 2 Connect the cable coming into the house to the IN connector on the V CR. 3 Connect one end of a coaxial c able to the OUT connector on the V CR.
Setti ng Up the TV 25 VCR and Cable Box Connection 1 T urn off and unplug your TV , VCR, and cable box. 2 Connect th e V CR as described i n “VC R Connec tion ” on page 23. 3 Connect t he cable line co ming into the house to the ANT 1 conn ector on t he b ack of the TV .

Then connect a coaxial cable to the VHF/ UHF OUT connector and to the ANT 1 connect or on the bac k of your TV .
28 Sett ing Up the TV Audio Receiver Connection 1 Connect one end of a standard, red/white audio c able to the R and L Audio Outp ut Va r i a b l e co nnec tors o n the ba ck of your TV . 2 Connect the other end o f the audio cable to the R and L Au dio Line I nput connectors on your audio receiver .
Setti ng Up the TV 29 PC or Game Console Connection 1 F or a PC, connect one end of a Dsub15 R GB for PC cable to the monito r or PC ou tput connector on the back of your PC. F or a game console, just use the cable that came w ith the console. 2 Connect the other end of the cab le to the PC co nnector on the front of the TV .

Setti ng Up the TV 31 External CD-R/RW Drive Connec tion 1 Connect the square end of a USB cable to the USB port o n your external CD-R/R W drive . 2 Connect the flat end of the USB cable to the EXT .

Setti ng Up the TV 33 Preparing the Remote Contr ol Before you can use t he remote control, you need to insert th e batteries and make s ure you aim it co rre ctly . F or a descrip tion of the r emote control butto n funct ions, se e the ins ide front co ver of this b ook.
34 Sett ing Up the TV Operating the Remote Contr ol Aim the remote control at the front of the T V , wi thin about a 25° ho rizontal angle to the left or right and a 15° ve rtical angle up or down from the remote receiv er . Make sure the room lighting is not too bright and not shinin g directly on the remote c ontrol or the TV receive r window .
Setti ng Up the TV 35 Plugging In and T urning On the TV After your video and audio equipment are connected and the remote control is ready , you can plug in and turn on th e TV . Y ou may want to turn on your connected eq uipment and in sert a tape or disc, if nece ssary , to test the TV wit h all of i t s vide o and audio sources.
36 Sett ing Up the TV If you see a blank screen with No Sign al at the bottom: • T urn on the source (VCR, D VD, etc.) • Ins ert a disc or tape, if you ’ re viewing one, and press Play •P r e .
Setti ng Up the TV 37 Selecting the Screen Display Size M ost TV and video si gnals det ermine the size of the image on your screen. Y ou can change the size (called the asp ect ratio) by pressing the Aspect button on the remote control.
38 Sett ing Up the TV Selecting the Color Mode Y our TV offers th ree display types (co lor modes) that are optimized for di fferent room lighting and picture types. Y ou can also create two custo m color modes us ing the TV menu system to fine- tune the picture even further .
Setting Up and Co ntrolling C hannels 39 Setting Up and Controlling Channels Before you use yo ur TV to view television pr ograms, yo u may need to set up your av ailable channels.
40 Setting Up and Cont rolling Channels 4 F irst make sure the correct television source type i s selected for Antenna 1 and /or Antenna 2. Select TV for broadcast television via an antenna outside your house. Select CA TV for c able televi sion via a cable ser vic e line brought into your house.
Setting Up and Co ntrolling C hannels 41 Manually Adding or Skipping Channels F or channels that are not automatic ally detected when you use Auto P rogram, you can use Manual P rogram to add them. Y ou can also choose to have the TV “ skip ” certain channels so you don ’ t have to c ycle through them when you change channels.
42 Setting Up and Cont rolling Channels Selecting Channels T o select the channe l you want to watch, do one of the following: • Enter the channel num ber using the number keys and press Ch Enter . •P r e s s t h e Ch + or – button to go up or down one channel at a time.
