3 When handling the ink cartridges ❏ Keep ink c artridg es out of the rea ch of children, and do not drink the ink . ❏ If ink get s on your skin , wash it off wi th soap and wate r. If it gets in you r eyes, flush them immediately wi th water. ❏ Do not shake a n ink cartr idge; this can c ause leakage.

1 Setting Up Your Printer 1-3 Plugging in the Printer 1. Make sure that the pr inter is turned off. It is off when the P Power button pro trudes sligh tly from the surf ace of the cont rol panel.
1-4 Setting Up Your Printer Note: ❏ Do not open the in k cartridge packages until just b efore you install them, or the ink may dry up. ❏ Use the ink cartridges packed with your printer the first time you install ink cartridges, otherw ise the printer may not charge the ink properly.

Remove only the y ellow tape seals from each c artridg e. c Caution: ❏ Remove the yellow tape seals f rom the cartridges before installing them; otherwise the cartridges may become unusable.

The ink charg i ng process may take about one minute to com plet e, d uri ng wh ich ti me th e Power li gh t flashe s and t he printer p roduces a va riety of mechani cal sounds.

If the paper or t he Loading Supp ort S heet is c urle d, flat ten it before l oadin g to av oid paper f eeding pro blems.

3-10 Printing Ph oto Directly with PC Cards Loading P C Ca rds Loadable storage media Digital photogra phs are stored either in t he digital camera memory or in a card-type memory whi ch can be loaded and unlo aded fro m the c ame ra. T he la tter is refe rred to as “stor age media.

3-12 Printing Ph oto Directly with PC Cards Ejecting PC cards 1. Check that t he Processing light is not on or flashing. c Caution: Do not eject PC cards or turn off power to the printer while the printer is processing (reading or writing) data. Data can be lost.

Printing All P hotographs on the PC Card All of th e photographs on the PC card can be printed out in a specified numb er of copies. Th is is the defau lt mode when a PC card is lo aded into the printer .
3-14 Printing Ph oto Directly with PC Cards Note: As soon as you load the PC card, if the All light starts flashing and Camera appears next to Photo No., the Photo No., Copies, and other settings are already set on the camera side. For more information, see “Printing with the camera’s settings” on page 3-15.

3-16 Printing Ph oto Directly with PC Cards Printing In dex Print All photo graphs on a PC ca rd can be pri nted out as an ind ex on a single sheet of paper in the specified number of co pies. The Index mo de is su bdivided into super high and draft modes .
3 Print ing Phot o Direct ly with PC Cards 3-17 ❏ Quality and Enhanced settings are changeable only when the Normal Index mode is selected. 4. Press the Change Sett ings buttons to make settings. For detai ls on the settings, see “Makin g Settings on the Display” o n page 2-8.
3-18 Printing Ph oto Directly with PC Cards Printing Select ed Photos It is possi ble to sele ct one specif ic photogr aph from the PC ca rd and p rint it out in a specif ied nu mber of c opies. When you w ant to p rint w ith a differe nt ph oto in t he sam e PC card conti nuously, see “Pr inting conti nuously differ ent photos” on page 3- 20.

Note: This printer sorts photos in chronological order. The photo numbers may be different from the storage numbers in the digital camera.

5-2 Maintenance and Transportation Replacing Ink Car tridges The print er’s indicator l ights wi ll inform you when it is time t o obtain a replacement ink cartridge an d when it is ti me to replace an empty cart ridge. This ta ble descri bes the status of the li ghts on your printer and the a ctio ns yo u nee d to ta ke .
5 Maintenance and Transportation 5-3 To re plac e an ink cart ridg e usin g the printe r’s co ntro l pane l, follow these steps. 1. M ake sure the pr inte r is o n. T he Pow er l ight s hou ld be on, b ut not flashing. (D etermine which ca rtridge needs to b e replaced as indi cated by t he B Black Ink and A Color Ink light.
5-4 Maintenance and Transportation 4. Lift up the cl amp that holds the cartr idge you want t o replace as far as it will go. The cartridge wi ll rise part ly out of th e cart ridge holde r. c Caution: Once you open the ink ca rtridge clamp, the ink cartridge becomes unusable and cannot be reinstalled even if ink remains.

Ne xt, remove only t he yellow ta pe seal from the cartridge. c Caution: ❏ You must remove the yell ow tape seal from the cartridge. Leaving the tape on when you install the cartridge will permanently damage it.
5-6 Maintenance and Transportation 8. Press the i nk cartri dge clamp down unti l it locks in pla ce. c Caution: Once you install the cartridges, do not open their clamps again until you replace the ink cartridges. Otherwise, the cartridges may become unusable.
5 Maintenance and Transportation 5-7 Checking the Print Head Nozzles If you find that the printed imag e is unexpected ly faint or d ots in the printed i mage are missing, you m ay be able t o solve these problems by checking the print head nozzles wi th the pri nter’s control pa nel butto ns.

Here is a typical printout : The abo ve samp le is in bla ck and white, bu t the ac tual tes t prints in color (CMYK). 3. Press the P Power b utton to turn off th e printer after it finishes prin ting the noz zle check pat tern.
5 Maintenance and Transportation 5-9 Cleaning the Print Head If you find that the printed imag e is unexpected ly faint or d ots in the printed i mage are missing, you m ay be able t o solve these prob lems by cle anin g the pri nt hea d wit h the pr int er’s co nt rol panel button, which ensures that the nozz les are deli vering ink properly .
5-10 Maintenance and Transportation c Caution: Never turn off the printer while the Power light is fl ashing. Doing so may da mage the printer. 3. When the Power light stops f lashing, print a few lines fr om a document to confirm that the head i s clean and to reset the cleaning cy cle.

If your printer stops working and the light s are on or flashi ng, use the fol l owing table of p anel light patterns to diagno s e the pr oblem, th en follow the recommend ed corr ecti ve mea sure s.
6 Troubleshooting 6-3 o B Ink Out (black ink cartridge) The bl ack ink ca rtridge is empty. Replac e the b lack in k cartridge wit h a new one (S020093). See “Replacing Ink Cartridges” on page 5-2. f A Ink Low (col or ink cart ridge) The colo r ink cartri dge is nearl y empty.

Unable to print parts of a photograph Check the Trim ming setting. When Trim ming is set , the photograph is trimm ed to fi t in the pri nt area .
6 Troubleshooting 6-7 Check that the adjust lever is properly set If ink s mears on thic k paper, set th e adjust l ever to the + p osition. 1. Open the printer’s sid e cover. 2. Slide the a djust lever t o the + posit ion. Note: After printing on thick paper, be sure to return the adjust lever to the 0 position.
