4 Loading Paper Loading Paper Y ou can print on a variety of paper ty pes and sizes. F or det ails, see page 6. 1. Open the paper support, then pull up the extension . 2. Open the front cover and pull out the tray extensions. 3. Slide the edge guide t o the left.
Loading P aper 5 4. Insert paper , glossy or printable sid e up , shor t edge first, against the right side and beneath the tab. (Load letterhead or pr e-printed paper top edge first. ) Y ou can load up to 120 sheets of letter- size plain paper or 20 sheets of photo paper .

Basic Printing 7 Basic Printing This section describes the basic steps for printing a photo or document stored on your Wi ndows ® or Macintosh ® computer , and printing dir ectly on an ink jet- printable CD or DVD. F or detailed instructions on printing, see the on-screen Epson Information Center .

14 Basic Printing Printing on CDs and DVDs Y our printer includes a special tray that lets you print customized text, graph ics, and photos directly on an ink jet-prin table CD or D VD. The Epson P rint CD software makes it easy to import your o wn photos, add text, and modify your designs with a variety of special effects.

Cleaning the Print Head 17 4. Check the nozzle pattern that pri nts to see if ther e are gaps in the lines. 5. If there are no gaps, click Finish . If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head as described in the next section.
18 Maintaining Your Printer 3. F ollow the on-screen instructions to start th e cleaning cy cle, which lasts around one minute. The P power light flashes throughout the cleaning cycle and stays on green when the cycle is finished. Caution: Nev er t urn of f the printer during a cleaning cycle or you ma y damage it.
Checking the Ink Cartridge Status 19 Tip: If a cartridge is more than six months old, print quality may decline. If necessary , tr y cleaning the print head (see page 1 7). If pr intouts sti ll do not look their best, y ou ma y need to replace the cartridge.
20 Maintaining Your Printer Replacing Ink Cartridges Make sure y ou have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Y ou must install new cartridges immediat ely after r emo ving the ol d ones. Caution: Do not open ink cartridge pac kages until you are ready to install the ink.
Replacing Ink Cartridges 21 4. P ress the H ink button again. ■ If another cartridge is low or expended, it mo ves to the _ position. P ress the H ink button again to see if any mor e cartridges are low or expended. ■ If no other cartridges are low or expended, the print head moves to the replacement position.
22 Maintaining Your Printer 6. Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift it up. Dispose of it carefully . Do not take the used cartridge apar t or try to refill it. Caution: Do not touc h the white cable inside the printer or you ma y damage it. Warning: If ink gets on your hands, w ash them thoroughly with soap and water .
Replacing Ink Cartridges 23 9. Insert the new ink cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place. 10. Once you replace all the cartridges that need replacing, close the car tridge cover , then close the printer cover . 11. Pr ess the H ink button to begin ch arging the ink.
24 Solving Problems Solving Problems If you have a pr oblem with your printe r , check th e lights on the printer to diagnose the cause. Y ou can also check “Problems and S olutions ” on page 26 for basic troubleshooting suggestions, or see the on-screen Epson Information Center for more detailed help .
Error Indicators 25 Error Indicators Light status Problem and Solution I light on Paper is out or multiple pa ges have fed. Load or reload paper in the sheet feeder, then press the I button. If you’re printing on a CD or DVD, the disc is not loaded.
26 Solving Problems Problems and Solutions Check the solutions below if you ’ re having trouble using your printer . Printing Problems ■ Make sure y our paper is loaded short edge first and is positioned against the right side with the edge guide against its left side.
Problems and Solutions 27 Print Quality Problems If you have any problems with the print quality , try th ese solutions: ■ Make sure the printer is not tilted or placed on an uneven su rface. ■ Load the paper printable side up (usually the whiter , brighter , or glossy side).
