December 2014 2 Quick Start Guide © NOTICE This installation guide provides ba sic guidelines for the R ose mount 3107 and Ros emount 3108. It does not provide instruc tions for detailed configuration, diagnostics, mainte nance , service, trouble shooting, or installations.
Quick Start Guide 3 December 2014 Ove r view of the R osemount 3107 and 3108 The Rosemount 3107 and 3108 are sealed 4–20 mA loop-powered liquid level transmitter s, specifically desi gned for use in waste w ater and effluent treatment plant on aqueous applic ations.
December 2014 4 Quick Start Guide Compone nts o f the transmitter The transmitter has a housing containing advanced electron ics to generate ultraso nic pulses, process the resultant signals, and provide a 4–20mA and HART output. There is a fact ory-fitted cable for th e sign al output and c onnecting an external power supply.
Quick Start Guide 5 December 2014 The transmitter is Double Insulated , and there fore Protective Ear thing is not required. Howeve r , the cable screen should be connec ted (see Figure 9 on page 10 ).
December 2014 6 Quick Start Guide Obstructions in the tank, or well , may ge nera te echoes which can be con fused with the real liqui d sur face ech o. Obstructions within the beam angle gene rate strong false echoes. Whereve r possible, the transmitter should be positione d to avoid false echo es.
Quick Start Guide 7 December 2014 Note T o help with alignment, the ech o size (signal strength) can be indicated on the Ro semount 3490 Se ries Cont rol Unit or a Field Communicator . Flange mounti ng The instrument (acces sory) flanges supplie d by Emerson are ma nufactured from PVC and are a full face design.
December 2014 8 Quick Start Guide Open c hannel flo w installations Mount an u ltrasonic tr ansmitter o ver an area o f clear liqu id. Avoid mo unting the transmitter directly over any inlet stream.
Quick Start Guide 9 December 2014 Note The transmitte r should be free from a situat ion where it is lik ely to 'drown' (ref er to the rele vant standard f or fur ther informa tion) Figure 8. Bottom ref erence of a ‘V’ notch w eir A.
December 2014 10 Quick Start Guide Connec ting the transmitter Note T o comp ly wi th th e C SA req ui rem ents , t h e transmitters must be powered from a R osemoun t 3490 Series C ontrol Unit, or a cla ss 2 or separa te extra-low voltage (SEL V) source.
Quick Start Guide 11 December 2014 Configuration The transmitter can be configured and ve rified using a Field Communicator or a Rosemount 3490 Series Control Uni t. The parameter s in this section are for a sufficient for a basi c level, conten ts (volume), or open channel flo w application.
December 2014 12 Quick Start Guide T ransmitter bottom re fe renc e This is the transm itter’s Bottom R eference sett ing. It is the distance measured vertically along th e ultrasonic beam path from the User Preferred Sensor Reference Point (UPSRP) to t he Zero Level of a tank or a n open channel ( Figure 10 on page 13 ).
