Introduction The Eaton® 9SX and 9PX uninterrup tible power system (U PS) protects yo ur sensitive electronic equipme nt from the most common power problems , including power failures, power sags , power surges, brownouts, line noise, high voltage spikes, frequency variations, switching transients, and harmonic distortion.

Installation 3.1 Inspecting the equipment If any equipment has been damaged duri ng shipment, keep the shipping cartons and packing m aterials for the carrier or place of purchase and file a claim for shipping damage . If you discover damage after acceptance, file a claim for conceal ed damag e.

3 . Installation 3.4 Connecting th e EBM(s) A small amount of arcing may o ccur when conne cting an EBM to the UPS . This is normal and will not ha rm personnel . Insert the EBM cable into the U PS battery connector quickly and firmly. 1. Plug the EBM power cable(s) into the battery connector(s) .
3 . Installation 3.6 T ower installation If you ordered other UPS ac cessories, refer to specific user manuals to ch eck the tower installation with the UPS. To install the cabinet: 1. Place the UPS on a flat, stable s urface in its fina l locat ion. 2 .

This step r equires two people. The UPS is heavy. To ease its rack mountin g, you can remo ve the batte ry pack from the UPS as explained below.

5 . Operation 5.1 UPS startup and shutdown If you or dered a HotSwap MBP, refer to the specifi c user manual t o check the st artup sequenc e of the UPS with the MBP. Starting the UPS Verify that the total equipment ratings do not exceed the UPS capa city to prevent an overload alarm.
5 . Operation 5.2 Operating modes The Eaton 9S X a n d 9 PX front panel indicates the UPS status thro ugh the UPS in dic ators , see pa ge 1 3. Online mode During Online mode, the indicator illuminate s solid and the UPS is powered from the utility .
5 . Operation Set ting High Efficiency mode On High Efficiency mode, the UPS operates nor mally on Bypass, transfer s to Online (or Battery) mode in less than 10 ms when utility fails, and transfers back to Bypass in 5 minutes after utility re turns .
5 . Operation 5.7 Retrieving the Event l og To retrieve the Event log through the display: 1. Press any button to activate the me n u options, then select Eve nt log. 2 . Scroll through the listed events. 5.8 Retrieving the F ault log To retrieve the Fault log through the display: 1.
1. Connect the RS232 16 or USB 17 communication cable to the serial or USB port on the computer. 2 . Connect the other e nd of the communication cable 16 or 17 to the RS232 1 or USB 2 communication port on the UPS. The UPS can now communicate with EATON power management software.
6 . Communication Remote On/Off Remote On/Off allows remo te action of button to switch On/Off the UPS. Normally open When contact change s from open to closed, the UPS i s switched-on (o r stays On). When contact change s from closed t o open, the UPS is s witched-off (or stays Off).

7 . UPS maintenance 7 .1 Equipment car e For the best preventiv e maintenance, keep the area around the eq uipment clea n and dust free. If the atmosphere is very dusty, clean the outside of the system with a vacu um cleaner. For full batte ry life, keep the equipment at an amb ient temperatu re of 25°C (77°F).
7 . UPS maintenance 7 .4 Replacing bat t er ies DO NOT DI SCONNECT the ba tter ies wh ile the UPS is in Batter y mode. Batteries can be replaced easily without tu rning off the UPS or disconne cting the load. If you prefer to remove input po wer to change the ba tteries, see "UPS Shutdown" o n page 24.
7 . UPS maintenance Replacing the internal battery The internal battery is heavy . Use caution when handling the hea vy batteries. To replace the battery pack: 1. Remove the ce nter cover of the fron t panel 2 . Remove the two screw s to open the left side of the front panel 3 .
7 . UPS maintenance Replacing the EBM(s) The EBM is heavy . Lifting the cabinet into a rack requires a minimu m of two people. To replace the EBM (s): 1. Unplug the EBM power cable and batte ry detection cable from the U PS. If additional EBM(s) are installed, unplug the EBM po wer cable and battery detection cable from each EBM.
7 . UPS maintenance 7 .5 Replacing the UPS equi pped with a HotSwap MBP The HotSwap MBP allows to service or replace the UP S without interrupting th e connected loads. Refer to the specific user manual fo r more information about HotSwap MBP. To remove the UPS: 1.
8 . T r oubleshooting The Eaton 9PX and 9S X are designed for durable, automatic op eration and also alert you whenever potential operating problems may occur . Usually the alarms shown by the cont rol panel do not mean that the output power is affected .
Remove some of the equipment from the UPS . The UPS continues to operat e, but may switch to Bypass mode or shut down if the load incr eases. The alarm resets when the condition becomes i nactiv e. If the UPS transferr ed to Bypass mode, the UPS will return to normal operation when the temperature drops 5°C be low th e warn ing lev el.
8 . T r oubleshooting 8.2 Silencing t he alarm Press the ESC (E scape) but ton on the fr ont panel display to silence the alarm . Check the alarm condition and perform t he applic able action to r esolve the co ndition . If the alarm status cha nges, the alarm beeps again, overriding the previous alarm silencing.
