1 General The Eume x 704PC L AN is an ISDN communications system enabling you t o connect up to f our analogue devices to a basic ISDN connection. In addition the Eumex 704PC LAN has an Ethernet 10BaseT network with f our por ts.

6 Mounting and Commissioning What Does the Eumex 704PC LAN Require? Cer tain prerequisit es must be met for the smooth installation and oper ation of the Eumex 704PC LAN, the configuration sof tware a.
7 Mounting and Commissioning Mounting and Installation Sequence The Eume x 704PC L AN consists of various components. This User Guide first describes how to mount t he communications system and how t o connect terminals such as telephones. Y ou can subsequently operate the devices.
8 Mounting and Commissioning Mounting Location The ambient operating t emperature for the Eume x 704PC L AN must not be lower than +5 ° C or higher than +40 ° C. For this reason, do not mount the Eume x 704PC L AN • above or in fr ont of sources of heat (e.
9 Mounting and Commissioning Connect the Eumex 704PC LAN to a separat e 230 V ~ mains circuit. This pr events the communications system fr om being af fect ed by possible shor t circuits in any other household equipment.

11 Connecting De vices Regulations permit the general public t o connect the Eumex 704PC LAN to the Deutsche T elekom ne twork. Y ou can thus connect the Eumex 704PC LAN yourself if the following conditions ar e met: • The de vice may only be connected t o a basic Euro-ISDN connection.
12 Connecting De vices Connecting Analogue T erminals to the Eumex 704PC LAN Y ou can connect up to f our analogue terminals to y our communications system. W e recommend you to deploy terminals that feature DTMF dialling and a flash func- tion. T erminals with pulse dialling cannot per form functions requiring the R-k ey (e.
13 Connecting De vices Connection to the 230V mains supply is not danger ous, providing y ou adhere strictly to the f ollowing instructions. Danger! Under no circumstances should you commission or continue operating the device if the A C adapter is damaged.
14 Connecting De vices Socke ts The operation of a communications syst em can be impaired by interference in the power supply caused by ot her equipment, especially photocopiers, laser printers, electric typewriters, air conditioning, f an heaters, vacuum cleaners and refrigerat ors.
15 Connecting De vices Besides the Eumex 704PC LAN, you can operate additional ISDN t erminals (e.g. ISDN telephones) on the NTB A. T o simplify the connection of additional devices, y ou will find an ext ernal S 0 por t on the lower side of the Eumex 704PC LAN.
16 Connecting De vices Setting the Dialling Mode for the Analogue T erminals The communications syst em automatically recognises analogue t erminals with D TMF dialling and a flash function; you do not hav e to set anyt hing.
17 Commissioning The f ollowing default settings and f eatures are active on deliv er y: • The PIN is se t to "0000." • External incoming calls ar e signalled on all connected terminals. • External line access: all t erminals have int ernational access rights.
18 T elephoning Accepting Calls In order for y ou to be able t o use all the features pr ovided by y our telecommunica- tions system, the terminals must be set to DTMF dialling with a flash function. T ermi- nals with pulse dialling cannot perform functions requiring the R-key , the star or the hash k eys.
19 T elephoning An internal call is a call made t o another subscriber on the same Eumex 704PC LAN. Automatic ext ernal line seizure (the default setting on delivery): Lif t the handset. Y ou hear an ext ernal dialling tone . Press t he R-key . Dial the desired int ernal number (11 to 14).
20 T elephoning Making Calls Using Speed Dialling The Eume x 704PC L AN saves up t o 100 speed- dialling numbers (or "destinations"). Every internal subscriber can be granted the right t o use these speed-dialling num- bers. (Y ou edit the relev ant settings in the configuration mode .
21 T elephoning Gespräch w eiter geben L et’s sa y you want t o transfer a call int ernally or externally . Dial the internal sub- scriber’s number or 0 and the ext ernal number , then replace the handset. T he sub- scriber’s telephone signals the call .
22 T elephoning Gespräch weitergeben T ransferring Calls with an Announcement Y ou want to tr ansfer a call int ernally or externally , but you first want t o speak to the other subscriber . Y ou are having a con versation. Press t he R -k ey . Y ou hear the internal dialling tone .
23 T elephoning Using the Eumex 704PC LAN you can toggle betw een two subscribers, i.e. speak to them alternat ely . They can be int ernal or external subscribers. Ext ernal subscribers who are on hold hear an announcement from t he exc hange. Y ou are having a con versation and want to mak e an enquir y call to a second sub- scriber .
24 T elephoning Speaking with T wo Subscribers Simultaneously (3-par ty Conference) Used on a multi-terminal connection the Eume x 704PC L AN enables two 3-par ty con- ferences t o be held simultaneously. One int ernal and two ext ernal subscribers can par ticipate in a confer ence.
25 T elephoning Y ou can pick up an ext ernal call signalled on another terminal on t he Eumex 704PC L AN: Lif t your handset. Select the code digit 4.
26 T elephoning Automatic Callback on No Reply (CCNR) If the ISDN Completion of Calls on No Reply service is available, y ou can also make a callback request t o contact a free subscriber . The pr ocedure is the same as for a busy subscriber . Y ou have dialled an e xternal number , but the subscriber does not lift the handset.
27 T elephoning DTMF P ost-dialling D TMF post- dialling is only possible during external calls when, for example, an aut o- matic announcement prompts you t o post-dial digits and symbols (1 to 0, * and #), during fax polling, during a remot e answerphone enquir y , or when communicating with a voice mailbo x or other application.
28 St a ying in T ouc h Call Forwarding Y ou can forward calls from an int ernal to an ext ernal terminal , or from one internal t o another internal t erminal. Depending on the configur ation, the call is forwarded in the Eumex 704PC LAN or in the exc hange (where a charge is incurr ed).

30 St a ying in T ouc h Accepting or Rejecting Call W aiting Y ou are having a con versation and an ext ernal subscriber calls. The call is signalled on your terminal b y means of a call-waiting tone . Internal callers alwa ys hear a busy tone when you ar e having a conv ersation.
31 St a ying in T ouc h If you want t o have a con versation without being disturbed by any further callers, you can activate call-w aiting prot ection for the line t o which your terminal is connect ed. Any further callers then hear a busy tone. Call-waiting prot ection remains active until it is deactiv ated again.

34 Conf iguration via T elephone Starting the Configuration Mode T o star t the configuration mode: Lif t the handset. Press t he R-key (only in the case of automatic ext ernal line access). Y ou hear an internal dialling t one. Select the code digit 8.
35 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou require a personal identification number (PIN) t o star t the configuration mode. The def ault setting on deliver y is 0000. W e recommend you t o change this PIN and k eep the new one in a safe and secr et place.
36 Conf iguration via T elephone Storing T elephone Number s (MSNs) In order for incoming calls t o be signalled on specific terminals, y ou have to sa ve the MSNs allocated t o you by Deutsche T elek om in the Eumex 704PC LAN. The MSNs are sav ed without an area code.
37 Conf iguration via T elephone In order for incoming calls t o be signalled on specific terminals, y ou have to pr ogram call assignment. Here you specify whic h terminal rings when a cer tain MSN is called. Y ou do this by assigning ev er y external number (MSN) t o one or more internal lines, which then signal the call .
38 Conf iguration via T elephone Reset the Call Assignment T o reset the call assignment, proceed as f ollows: Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone . Select the code digits 905. Press t he hash ke y .
39 Conf iguration via T elephone When this setting is active , you have t o dial 0 befor e dialling an external number . Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone . Select the code digits 050. Press t he hash ke y .
40 Conf iguration via T elephone Number Busy With this setting y ou can specify whether incoming calls for an MSN during an e xter- nal call are signalled as call waiting b y ringing on other telephones, or whet her the caller hears a busy tone.
41 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou can configure a device type (e .g. fax, answerphone) f or every internal line so that the Eumex 704PC LAN can manage the respective de vices correctly . This ensures that fax transmissions ar e not interrupted b y call-waiting tones, f or instance.
42 Conf iguration via T elephone External Line Access Y ou can set ext ernal line access to one of five le vels for ev er y internal line. If a sub- scriber dials an ext ernal number for which that line has no access rights, he hears the busy tone . The emergency numbers can alwa ys be dialled (see the section below).
43 Conf iguration via T elephone Y our Eumex 704PC LAN can save up to t hree emergency numbers. These numbers can always be dialled fr om every telephone, independent of the e xternal line access rights that otherwise exist. Y ou save the emer gency numbers as follows: Lif t the handset.
44 Conf iguration via T elephone Storing Numbers for Speed Dialling Y our Eumex 704PC LAN can save up to 100 t elephone numbers, which you can then dial conveniently using the speed-dialling code digits 00 to 99. 45 Conf iguration via T elephone Internal lines with outw ard restrict ed or no external line access can (in t he default set- ting) can still use speed-dialling number s to dial destinations falling outside t heir ext ernal line access levels. If you w ant to pre vent this, you can block speed dialling as follows: Lif t the handset.
46 Conf iguration via T elephone Programming a T elephone Number (MSN) for T ransmission Y ou can program whic h of the MSNs is to be transmitt ed to the called subscriber . If you do not progr am anything, the first MSN for whic h your telephone signals calls is transmitted (see t he chapter entitled "Call Assignment").
47 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou can only cancel the restriction of the t elephone number display f or all lines simul- taneously: Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone . Select the code digits 31.
48 Conf iguration via T elephone Charge per Unit of Time Enter the c harge per unit of time for call-charge registr ation in cents, e.g. 0006 (the default setting is 0.06 eur os). Y ou can edit the currency under "CAPI-ControlEinst el- lungen ( Settings) Gebühreneinst ellungen (Charge settings) Währung (Currency).
49 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou can set a charge limit (c harge account) for e ver y internal line, whic h you can then activate and deactiv ate as the need arises. When t he limit has been reached, no fur- ther outgoing ext ernal calls are possible on this line (the subscriber hears a busy tone).
50 Conf iguration via T elephone Managing Call Forwarding Y ou can specify whether call forwarding f or external calls is t o tak e place in the Eumex 704PC LAN (= the default setting) or in the t elephone exc hange. Both proce- dures hav e cer tain advantages.
51 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou can use the following pr ocedure t o delete all call f or warding: Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone . Select the code digits 906. Press t he hash ke y .
If the ISDN ser vice ECT is available in t he exc hange, you can activat e and deactivate it as required: Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone . Select the code digits 990. Select the code digits 71 to activ ate or the code digits 70 to deactiv ate ECT .
53 Conf iguration via T elephone Activating/Deactiv ating T -NetBox Signalling Y ou can activate and deactiv ate the LED ("Message" LED) t hat signals messages wait- ing and faxes r eceived: Lif t the handset. T he configuration mode is active and you hear a special int ernal dialling tone .
54 Conf iguration via T elephone Y our Eumex 704PC LAN suppor ts the "SMS in a fixed-line network" function. T his function can only be used on analogue telephones that e xplicitly suppor t the "SMS in a fixed-line network" f eature.
55 Conf iguration via T elephone Y ou can deactivate or dele te all activat ed features and activ ate all def ault settings instead. T his resets your syst em to the deliv er y state (i.e. the f actory settings are active again). Resetting the Communications Syst em The secr et PIN is reset t o 0000.
56 R emote Conf iguration F er nk onf iguration If you decide not to configur e your Eumex 704PC LAN yourself, you can have it con- figured remot ely by T eleSer vice for a fee . Call T eleSer vice for advice, and list your configuration requir ements.
57 The PC Sof tware The communications software supplied enables you t o use the ISDN data transfer serv- ice, class 3 and 4 fax and e-mail transmission and reception, a mailbo x, an answer- phone function and Internet applications on up t o four PCs via the USB or one of the Ethernet 10BaseT ports.
58 The PC Sof tware System Prerequisites The syst em prerequisit es for the installation of the Eume x 704PC L AN sof tware on your PC are as f ollows: • IBM- compatible PC with a hard- disk and CD .
59 The PC Sof tware On the CD -ROM supplied you will find the f ollowing sof tware: • The Eumex 704PC LAN system software contains the sof tware necessary for operating the Eume x 704PC L AN including the CAPI , C API Port , CAPI Control and T API drivers, as well as the configuration pr ogram for pr ogramming the com- munications system.
60 Inst alling the Sof tw are Installing the Software and Configuring Internet Access Before installing the software, you must ensure that any e xisting ISDN instal- lation on your PC is deactivat ed or uninstalled. No other CAPI drivers must be installed, because this could result in conflicts between the various C API drivers.
61 Inst alling the Sof tw are Note The above installation screens will only appear if y ou connected your PC directly to the Eumex 704PC LAN via the USB por t before installing the software. If the connection is via Ethernet, or if the PC has not yet been connect ed, the following screen will appear .
62 Inst alling the Sof tw are Follow the instructions in the installation pr ogram. If the installation wizard reports finding newer files, please do not over write them.
63 Inst alling the Sof tw are 7. Depending on the following selection ("T - Online" or "Anderer Internet Service Pro vider " ( Other ISP )), an input screen may open in which y ou enter the access data obtained from your pr ovider .
64 Inst alling the Sof tw are 8. Follow the instructions in the configur ation program. 9. On completion of the progr am, the access data is saved t o the Eumex 704PC L AN. When you now start an Internet browser (such as Ne tscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer), you will aut omatically be connected t o the Inter- net.
65 Star t the configuration software to edit the man y Eumex 704PC LAN settings. Access to t he configuration program is PIN-pr otect ed. In the default setting on deliv- er y , this PIN is 0000 (i.e. nought four times). This is the same as t he PIN you need to star t the configuration mode from a t ele- phone.

Ext ernal incoming calls for the corr esponding MSN will then be signalled on the assigned ter- minals. SMS in a fixed-line network Y our Eumex 704PC LAN suppor ts the "SMS in a fixed-line network" function.
69 Conf iguring t he Sy st em Settings Y ou can edit various settings f or each connected de vice. When the device is select ed, the optimum settings for t he respective device type will be select ed automatically (e.g. "Call waiting" -> "off " for fax es and modems).
70 Conf iguring t he Sy st em Call Forwarding The call f or warding input screen depends on t he type of call for warding select ed ("in the ex change" or "in the communications syst em").
71 Conf iguring t he Sy st em Call forwarding in the exchange When calls are to be f or w arded in the ex change, y ou specify a call-forwarding desti- nation for incoming calls t o each of the enter ed MSNs.

79 C API Control The C API Control program pr ovides you with compr ehensive information about an existing connection, and enables you t o edit a number of CAPI settings. Windows star ts this program aut omatically , and you can invok e it via the taskbar .
80 Fla shLoad Y ou can update your Eume x 704PC LAN system sof tware yourself. T his may be nec- essar y when new featur es become available . Y ou can download the newest version from the Int ernet under the follo wing address: http://www.
81 Fla shLoad Select the system software t o be loaded and open this file. Y ou see the software ver- sion information. When you use the F lashLoad f eature f or the first time, your PC operating syst em will install the necessar y sof tware modules. Y ou cannot use the "Next" button until this procedure has been comple ted.
82 Fla shLoad Before t he upload procedure begins, the scr een depicted opens with important infor- mation about what to do during this pr ocedure. A monitoring screen k eeps you informed about the curr ent status of the upload. When the data transf er is complete, t he program is aut omatically terminated, and t he Eumex 704PC LAN restar ts.
83 T eledat R V S - COM Basic Functions The T eledat RVS-COM sof tware package enables y ou to use all the ISDN services conveniently on y our PC. T eledat RVS- COM consists of the following modules: 1. RVS T ransferMaster is a file manager enabling fast and secure file tr ansfer , e.
84 T eledat R V S - COM 3. RVS T elefon acts as an ISDN telephone with answerphone on your PC. T o use this function, your PC must hav e a full- duplex soundcard. 4. RVS T erminal is a terminal emulation enabling your PC to establish connections t o ISDN mailbox es.
85 W inPhone Basic Functions The con venient dialling wizard enables you t o plan and log telephone calls using a subscriber database. If a caller’s number is transmitt ed, he/she can be identified by means of the entr y in this database.

87 Home N e tw ork Installation The installation of the Eume x 704PC LAN system sof tware fulfils all the pr erequisites for network oper ation. Ever y PC connected t o the system can be accessed as a net- work PC and can, in turn, access the other PCs in the ne twork or their hard disk drives if this is not restrict ed by personal settings.
88 Home N e tw ork Sharing a Drive In order to shar e a drive (e.g. a partition of your hard disk or a built-in ZIP drive), click on that drive with the right-hand mouse butt on, select the "Sharing" tab, and grant the rights as desired.
89 Home N e tw ork Displaying the Netw ork Neighbourhood Double- click the "Network Neighbourhood" symbol on your PC deskt op to display all available PCs and t heir shared drives.
