Before Y ou Begin 9 1 Before Y ou Begin This section provides procedures for r e moving and installing the components in your computer . Unless otherwise no ted, each procedur e assumes that the follo.
10 Before Y ou Begin W in dows V ista™: Click the W indows Vista Start button , click the arrow in the lower -right corner of the Start menu as shown below , and then click Shut Down . The computer turns off after the oper ating system shutdown process is complete.
Before Y ou Begin 11 2 T urn off your compu ter (see "T urning Off Y our Computer" on p age 9). NOTICE: T o disconnect a network cable, firs t unplug the cable from your computer and then unplug the cable from the network device. 3 Disconnect all telephone or netw ork cables from the computer .

Hard Drive 15 3 Hard Drive CAUTION: If you remove the hard drive from the computer when the drive is hot, do not touch the metal housing of the hard drive. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedur es in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide .
16 Hard Drive 2 T urn the computer over , loosen the tw o captive screws on the har d drive cover , and then remove the cover . 3 Loose n the four captive scr ews on the hard drive cage and then lift the pull-tab to flip the cage towards the center of the computer so that the SA T A cables and connec tors are accessible.
Hard Drive 17 4 Carefully r emove the SA T A cables from the hard drive or drives that are installed in the cage. Replacing a Hard Drive in the Hard Drive Cage 1 Remove two screws on each side of the hard drive cage to free the har d drive, then lift the drive out of its tray in the cage.
18 Hard Drive 3 Place the new hard drive into the drive cage tray and secure it with two screw s on each side. a Install the har d drive so that the manufacturer ’s label faces the bottom of the drive cage and the SA T A connectors are at the open end of the cage.
Memory 19 4 Memory CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedur es in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide . Y ou can increase your co mputer memory by installing memory modules on the system board.
20 Memory NOTICE: T o prevent damage to the memory module connector , do not use tools to spread the memory-module securing clips. 4 If you are r eplacing a memory module, remove the e xisting module: a Use your fingertips to caref ully spre ad apart the securing clips on each end of the memory module connec tor until the module pops up.
Memory 21 NOTICE: If you need to install memory modules in two connectors, install a memory module in the connector labeled “DIMM1” before you install a module in the connector labeled “DIMM2.” Insert memory modules at a 45-degree angle to avoid damaging the connector .
22 Memory 6 Replace the memory module cover . NOTICE: If the cover is difficult to close, remove the module and reinstall it. Forcing the cover to close may damage your computer . 7 Insert the battery into the battery bay , or connect the AC adapter to your computer and an electrical outlet.
Coin-Cell Battery 23 5 Coin-Cell Battery CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedur es in this section, follow the safety instructions in the Product Information Guide .
24 Coin-Cell Battery 5 Remove the battery from the compartment on the system boar d by using a scribe or small scr ewdriver to lift one side of the battery at the notch in the plastic connector , being careful not to br eak the plastic. 6 Grasp the battery and pull it out of the battery compartment.

26 Hinge Cover Replacing the Hinge Cover When replacing the hinge cover , first insert the left edge and then press from left to right until the cover snaps into place.

28 Keyboard c Slide the keyboar d towards the disp lay to free the edge connector and release the locking tab, then lift the keyboar d and hold it slightly forwar d to access the key boa rd connector ribbon cable. d Use your finger tip to raise the black retainer clip on the keyboar d connector so that the ribb on cable slides out fr eely .

Communication Cards 35 6 Connect the antenna cables to the Mini -Card, ensuring that you route the cables correctly . 7 Replace the keyboar d and the hinge cover . Flash Cache Module The FCM, or Flash Cache Module , is an internal memory card that helps improve the performance of your computer .
36 Communication Cards Replacing the FCM 1 Insert the FCM connector at a 45-degree angle into the system board connector labeled "F CM" either in the WLAN or WW AN card compartment. 2 P ress the other end of the FCM down into the slot on the system board until the card clicks into place.

42 Display Asse mbly 6 Disconnect the light lobes connector using the pu ll-tab. 7 Remove the display panel. Replacing the Display Panel 1 Replace the light lobes connector . 2 Replace the eight screws that attach th e display panel brackets to each sid e of the display panel.
