7 SLOPE GUIDE Do not mow on inclines with a slope in excess of 15 degrees (a ri se of appr oximately 2-1/2 feet ev e ry 10 feet). A riding mower could overturn and cause serious injury. If operating a walk-behi nd mower on such a slope, it is extremely difficult to mainta in your footing and you could slip , resulting in serious injury.

11 IMPOR T ANT: This unit is shipped with oil in the e ngine . After assembly, see OPERATION section of this manual for fuel an d engine oil details. NOTE: Reference to right and left hand side of the mower is observ ed from the operating po sition. This pedestr ian controlled wide area mower has been completely assembled at the factory.

14 INITIAL ADJUSTMENTS 1. Disconnect the spark plug wire. 2. Check that all nuts, bolts and screws are tight. 3. Ch eck the tension of the deck drive belt s: a. Remove the deck cover shield and eng age the blade clutch. b. Make sure the belts clear the belt guides by 1/8" to 1/4".

Let rope ret urn slowly. If engine fails to start af ter three pulls, repeat instructions (try setting throttle at fast setting).
16 13. Readjust the steering co ntrol rods and the brake rods. They may require frequen t adjustment until the belts and brake bands have pr operly seated.

18 CHANGING ENGINE OIL 1. Place a container underneath the mower on the right hand sid e. 2. Remove oil dr ain plug, and replace when oil stops draining. (See Figu re 12) Figure 12 3. Refill oil through the fill tube to the level indicated as “full” on the dipstick.

20 6. Replace the long blade drive belt on the engine pulley. Figure 2 0 CHANGING EITHER TRACTION DRIVE BEL T : 1. Remove the hex screws which hold the be lt guards in place. Remove th e belt guards. Figure 2 1 2. Place the neutral latch lever in the neutr al lock position.
21 WARNING: Do not at any time make any adjustment to the unit without first stopping engine and disconne cting spark plug wire. ADJUSTING THE CONTROL-FORCE Three holes in the belt guar d allow you to reposition the hex cap screw to adjust th e brake lever.
22 CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT T ABLE Note: The front edge of the cutting deck should be 1/8” - 1/4” below th e rear edge of the deck so that the blades are cutting grass in only the front half of their circular path. This decreases friction and reduces the drive power required.
