4 5. Never run an eng ine indoors or in a poorly ventil ated area. Engine ex haust contains carbon mon oxide, an odorless and dea dly gas . 6. Do not operate m achine wh ile under the influ ence of alcohol or dru gs. 7. Muffler a nd engine be come hot and can cause a burn .
5 SECTION 2: LOOSE PARTS The snow th rower is shippe d with foll owing loos e parts in th e carton. Pl ease rem ove all loo se parts fr om the ca rton before dis carding it. See Figur e 1 to identify the parts not ing that th ese parts may be referr ed to again in the following sections of this manua l.

7 Traction Control and Shift Lever A djustment To che ck the adj ustment o f the t raction control a nd sh ift leve r, proceed as follows: • Move the s hift lev er into si xth (6) po sitio n. a. With the traction control (refer to Figur e 7 in Section 4 o f this manual ) rel eased, g ently push the sno w thrower forwa rd, then pull it back.
8 Chute Dir ectional Contr ol The chute directional control is located on lef t side of the snow thrower . To chang e the direct ion in which snow is thrown, turn chute dir ectio nal contr ol as follow s: • Crank c lockwise to di scharge to th e left.
9 • If you have a grounded three-pr ong receptacle, proceed as fol lows. • Rotate cho ke knob to OFF pos ition. • Conne ct power cord to sw itch b ox o n eng ine. Pl ug the other end of power cord int o a three-pro ng 120- volt, grounde d, A C recep tacle .
10 Operat ing Tips NOTE: Allo w the en gine to warm up for a few m inutes as the eng ine wi ll not dev elop full power unt il it re aches operatin g temperatu re. WARNING: Muf fler, eng ine and surro unding areas be come hot an d can caus e a burn. Do not touc h.
11 • Retighten the jam nut to secure the cab le when corre ct adjustm ent is reached . • Reasse mble the frame cove r. Shift Rod Adjustment To adjust the s hift rod, proceed as fol lows. • Remove the hairpin cli p and slide the connecto r up to separa te the upper sh ift rod from the lower sh ift rod.
12 Tract ion Control / Auger Cont rol Lock The cams on the ends of the control rods which interlo ck the tractio n drive an d auger drive clutches must be lubri cated at leas t once a season or every twenty-fi ve hours of ope ratio n. The cams ca n be access ed b eneath the hand le pa nel.
13 SECTION 8: SERVICE WARNING: Before servicin g, repair ing, or insp ecting, d iseng age a ll clut ch lev ers and stop e ngine. Wa it unti l all mo ving par ts have come to a compl ete stop. Dis connec t spark plug wir e and ground i t against the engine to prevent unintend ed s tarting.
14 • Back ou t the stop bolt un til the suppo rt bracket rests on the auger pulley. Se e Figure 20. Fig ure 20 NOTE: L oosening the s ix nuts th at co nnect the fram e to the auger hou sing m ay aid in belt remov al. • Lift the auge r belt from the auger pul ley, and slip belt between the suppo rt bracket an d the auger pulley.
15 • Position the friction whee l assembl y up onto the pin of the shift rod as sembly , and slide the shaft thro ugh t he as sembl y. Reas sembl e in re vers e order. Augers The augers are secured to the spir al shaft wit h two shear b olts a nd hex lo ck n uts.
