8 SECTION 3: TRACTOR SET-UP Attaching th e Battery Cables The posi tive batter y termin al is marked Pos. (+). T he negative battery terminal i s mar ked Neg. ( – ). • The posit ive ca ble (h eavy r ed wi re) i s sec ured to the positi ve batte ry terminal (+) with a hex bo lt and hex nut at the fac tory.

10 Thr ottle Control Lev er The throttle con trol lever is located on the lef t side of the tractor ’ s das h panel. Th is lever co ntrols the speed of the engine . When set i n a given position , the throttl e will maintain a uniform engi ne speed.
11 Hour Meter Located in the center of the tractor ’ s con sole, the hour meter operate s whenever the engine is r unning and recor ds the actual h ours o f tract or o peration . See Figure 6. Figure 6 System Indicator Light s Your tra ctor is equip ped with four indicator lights in the center of i ts dash panel.
12 Seat Adjustment Lever To adjust the s eat forward or backwa rd, slide the se at adjustme nt leve r to the left and r epositio n the seat to the desir ed positio n. Onc e a comforta ble positi on is found, rel ease the sea t adjust ment lev er to lock the seat in place.

14 • Briefly depress the br ake pedal to release the parking br ake. Mov e the thrott le lever into the F AST (rabbit) p osition. • To travel FORWAR D, slowly depr ess the uppe r portion of the drive pedal forward unti l the desired speed is ac hieved.

17 Leveling the Deck NOTE: Check th e tractor’s tire pres sure befo re perform ing any dec k leveli ng adjustm ents. Ref er to Tires on page 24 for informati on regard ing tire pres sure. Front T o Rear The front o f the c utting dec k is sup ported by a stabi lizer bar that can ad juste d to leve l the deck fr om front t o rea r.

19 SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTOR NOTE: Refer to Mainte nance Ch art o n page 29 for a referen ce of r ecommen ded m aintenanc e inter vals. 20 • Fill the crankc ase until the oil le vel reac hes the full (F) mark on the dipstick. Refe r to Figure 16. Refer to the visc osity oi l chart earli er in this section for informat ion regar ding the pro per type of oil to ad d to th e cran kcase.
21 • Before removing the old oil filter , clean ar ound its base to pre vent debris from enter ing the crank case. • Grasp th e oil fil ter and remove it from th e engine by turning it countercloc kwise. Us e an oil filter wre nch, if nece ssary .
22 Service the Foam Precleaner • Clean the pr ecleane r after every 25 hours of operatio n. Mo re often if operat ing u nder ex tremely dust y or di rty condi tions. • Wash the pre cleaner i n detergen t and water. • Rinse the pre cleaner t horoughl y until all t races of detergen t are e liminate d.
23 Fuel Filt er and Pump WARNING: Do not repl ace th e fue l fi lt er or pump when engi ne is hot. The engin e is equipp ed with an in line fuel fi lter and fuel pump lo cated on the righ t side of the engi ne.
24 SECTION 8: SERVICE Head Lamp WARNING: If the en gine has been recent ly run, the engine, mu ffler and surround ing metal sur faces wil l be hot and can cause burns to the s kin. Allow the t ractor to cool and use cauti on when ch anging t he lamp bulbs .

28 • Pivot th e double-idl er bracket to relieve as mu ch spring tension as possi ble, t hen unhoo k th e idle r extension s pring from the s crew and the idler bracke t itself. Do not misplace the s pring. • Slide th e drive belt out an d off of the pulle ys on the double- idler brac ket.
