Getting Started 3-1 Getting Star ted This chapter assists you in setting up and configuring your pla yer , and also describes some basic operations. Inser ting the batter y Do not force the battery in if it does not fit. Check the battery orientation before trying again.
Getting Started 3-2 1. Open the battery compartment in the direction of the arrows. 2. Mo ve the activation switch in the direction shown in the diagr am above. This activates y our player for use th e first time y ou start it up. 3. Insert the battery as shown.
Getting Started 3-3 Charging the batter y Fully charge the battery supplied with your player before y ou use it. For the first time only , charge the battery for sixteen hours. From the second time onwards, the battery should fully charge within six hours.

Getting Started 3-7 Using the Pr otectiv e Carr ying Case Y our player comes with a carrying case that you can use to prop up your play er for better picture or video viewing. 1. Insert y our player into the carrying case as shown. 2. Flip the top of the case back to support y our player .
Getting Started 3-8 T urning the pla y er on or off Y our player must be unlocked before y ou can use any buttons or controls. T o unlock your player , see "Locking and Unlocking y our Player" on page 3-7 . To turn your player on: Press the POWER button.
Getting Started 3-9 After making some menu selections, you can see a horizontal menu at the top of the screen. Press the Left or Right navi gation buttons to mo ve horizontally between views, for example, when viewing pictures, you can sort pictures by name or date.

Managing Content 5-1 Managing Content About Content Ty p e s Z en Portable Media Center plays man y diffe rent types of content, including video files, audio tracks, recorded TV progr ams and still pictures. When you tr ansfer video and audio files to your player , Windows Media Player 10 changes them into WMV or WMA files respectively .
Managing Content 5-2 T ransferring content With Windows Media Player 10, y ou can choose between Automatic and Manual synchronization options. Using Automatic synchronization, Window s Media Player 10 compares both the media libraries in y our player and co mputer and automatically transfers new content from your computer to your play er .
Managing Content 5-3 3. In the menu that appears, click the Delete from Device option. Y our player displays the "updating" screen. Managing Videos T o play videos, you must first tr ansfer th e videos to your play er . The videos are categorized by name and date in your player’ s Video Library .
Managing Content 5-4 Managing Pictur es With Zen P ortable Media Center’ s high-c apacity storage, you can store thousands of photos in your player , and even set up a slide show , so that you can share memories with friends and family . Pictures are categorized by "date" and "name" in Picture Library .
Managing Content 5-5 2. Use the na vigation buttons to highlight Transitions . 3. Press the OK button repeatedly to choos e a transition time. It r anges from 5 seconds to 30 seconds. 4. Press the Left button twice to view y o ur slide show with the new settings.
Managing Content 5-6 Deleting, modifying or renaming albums, ar tists or genres, including renaming of audio tracks, must be done in Windows Media Pla yer 10. Pla ying a T rack 1. Press the Start button. 2. Select my music . 3. Use the Left or Right buttons to navigate to a cate gory (album, artist, playlist, song or genre).
Managing Content 5-7 5. Select the play all option. Changing Pla y Modes When playing audio tr acks, you can choose to change the play mode, enable an equalizer preset, or purchase the track. 1. When playing audio tracks, press the Ri ght button until y ou see four options for shuffle play , repeat play , equalizer and purchase .
