K n ow i ng Y o u r C D - R O M D r i v e 1-6 CD Audio Connector The CD Audio Co nnector allows y ou to direct audio outpu t from your CD-ROM drive to yo ur audio card when it is connected using a C D audio cable. Master/Slave Jumper The Master /Slav e Jumpe r (see Figure 1-6) all ows you t o set yo ur driv e as the Master or Slave drive.

S e t t i n g Up Y ou r C D - R OM Dr i v e 2-2 If you have purchased th e drive with an IDE CD-ROM interface car d, get the interface card read y (see Figure 2-2). If you have an audio card i nstalled in y our system, get a CD audio cable ready (see Figure 2-3).

S e t t i n g Up Y ou r C D - R OM Dr i v e 2-4 4. Locate a 5¼" drive b ay for your CD-ROM drive. 5. V acate a drive bay . If a disk drive is positio ned above your vacant drive bay , loosen the scr ews of your disk drive and slide i t out by two to three inches.
Setting Up Y our C D-ROM Drive 2-5 6. Insert your CD-ROM drive into the vacant d rive bay as shown in Figure 2- 6. Do not slide the drive completely in to the vacant drive bay . Leave some space at the rear so that it is eas ier for you to connect cables t o your drive.

Connecting Cables to Y our Card After connecting the cables to the CD-ROM’ s rear panel, you need to connect these cables to your audio or IDE CD-ROM interface card.
S e t t i n g Up Y ou r C D - R OM Dr i v e 2-8 Connecting Cables to Y our Audio Card T o connect the CD audio and data cables to your audio card (which has an IDE CD-ROM interface): 1. Connect the d ata cable to your aud io card as shown in Figure 2- 10.

S e t t i ng U p Y o u r C D - R O M D r i v e 2-10 T o install the interface card: 1. Locate a vacant 16 -bit slot in your system (see Figure 2 -13). 2. Remov e the metal plate fro m the slot you have chosen and pu t the screw aside (s ee Figure 2-14).
Setting Up Y our CD-ROM D riv e 2 -1 1 3. Align the IDE CD -ROM interface card’ s gold-stripped connector with the expansion slot and gently lower it into the slot (see F igure 2-15). 4. Secure the interface card to the expansion s lot with the screw you remov ed from th e metal plate (s ee Figure 2-16) .

If yo u do not hav e an audio card i nstalled in y our system, connect a headpho ne or powered speakers to the Stereo Phon e Jack on y our drive’ s front panel. Set the vol ume controls of your dri ve and powered sp eakers to minim um before powering on (or resetting) the system.

Make sure you align the colored wire on the cable t o Pin 1 of your Hard Di sk Data Co nnector . Y our h ard disk con troller card may dif fer from the on e shown i n Figure 2-2 1.

Using QuickCD 3-1 3 Using QuickCD QuickCD allows yo u to play au dio CDs in DOS and W i ndows. Like your CD player , QuickCD is easy and fun to op erate.
U s i n g Q u i c k C D 3-2 3. At t h e DOS pr o mpt, t y pe QCD and press <Enter>. The QuickCD screen s imilar to Figure 3 -1 appears. If you h ave more than on e drive, this program all ows you to specify the desired drive at the DOS prompt. For example, to play the au dio disc from your F d rive, type QCD /D:F and press <Ente r>.
Using QuickCD 3-3 Next T rack button Plays the next track. If it is the end of the CD, the first track is played. Previous T rack bu tton Plays the previo us track. If it is the start o f the CD, the last track is played. Fast Forward button Forwards the curr ent track by 16 second s.

T o change the base I/O ad dress and I RQ line of your car d, you need to chang e the jumper setting on y our audio or IDE CD-ROM interface card.

It shows you how to chan ge the Base I/O address an d IRQ line if conflicts occur between the IDE CD-ROM interface card and other devices.
