2 Introduction T oday’s VXI instruments communicat e with application pr ograms through plug&play drivers. In some cases, these driv ers are just one way to communicate. F or the E6432A micro wa ve synthesizer , its plug&play driver is the only means of communi- cation wit h the host controller or its application programs.

The older VXI-MXI-1 slot 0 controller and its host card (the A T-MXI interface) do not operat e correctly with E6432A, due t o the A T-MXI int erface’s inabili- ty t o access more than 64k of A24 address space.
