5. Rotate each retaining clip clock- wise and press down until it snaps into place over the handle. 6. If the handle has excessive movement, it is improperly installed.
T o Add Oil Drain tank to release air pr essure before r emoving the oil fill cap or oil drain plug. 1. Place unit on a level surface. 2. Remove oil fill plug (A) and slow- ly add compressor oil until it is even with the top of the oil fill hole. NOTE: Do not allow oil to be lower than 3/8" (6 threads) from the top at any time.
13- ENG D24910 3. Inspect the plug and cord befor e each use. Do not use if there ar e signs of damage. 4. If these grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the compressor is pr operly ground- ed, have the installation checked by a qualified electrician.
14- ENG D24910 T ank Pressur e Gauge: The tank pressur e gauge indicates the reserve air pressur e in the tank. Regulator: Controls the air pr essure shown on the outlet pressur e gauge. Pull the knob out and turn clockwise to increase pr essure and counter- clockwise to decrease pr essure.
Cooling System (not shown) : This compressor contains an advanced design cooling system. At the heart of this cooling system is an engi- neered fan. It is perfectly normal for this fan to blow air through the vent holes in large amounts. Y ou know that the cooling system is working when air is being expelled.
16- ENG D24910 How to Start: 1. T ur n the On/Auto/Of f lever to “AUTO” and allow tank pressur e to build. Motor will stop when tank pressur e reaches “cut-out” pressur e. 2. Pull the regulator knob out and turn clockwise to increase pres- sure.

18- ENG D24910 T o Check Safety V alve If the safety valve does not work properly , over -pressurization may occur , causing air tank rupture or an explosion. 1. Before starting compr essor , pull the ring on the safety valve to make sure that the safety valve operates freely .
4. Measure the distance between the edge of the belt and the straightedge at points A1 and A2 in figure. The dif ference between measurements should be no more than 1/16".
20- ENG D24910 4. Using an adjustable wrench, loosen pressur e relief tube nut at air tank and pressur e switch. Carefully move pr essure r elief tube away from check valve. 5. Unscrew the check valve (turn counterclockwise) using a 7/8” open end wrench.

Using an adjustable wrench, rotate the pr essure switch assembly as shown. 7. Remove the outlet pressur e gauge, tank pressur e gauge, and quick connect (if equipped) from the regulator .
10. Assemble the regulator and ori- ent as shown in previous figur e. NOTE : Arrow indicates flow of air . Make sure it is pointing in the dir ec- tion of air flow . 11. Reapply pipe sealant to outlet pressur e gauge, tank pressur e gauge, and quick connect.
23- ENG D24910 STORAGE aBefore you stor e the air compressor , make sure you do the following: 1. Review the "Maintenance" sec- tion on the preceding pages and perform scheduled maintenance as necessary . 2. Set the On/Auto/Off lever to “OFF”.
24- ENG D24910 TROUBLESHOOTING Performing repairs may expose voltage sour ces, moving parts, or compressed air sour ces. Personal injury may occur . Before serv- icing: Unplug or disconnect electrical supply to the air compressor , bleed tank of pressur e, and allow the air compressor to cool.
25- ENG D24910 PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTION Compressor is not supplying enough air to operate acces- sories. Prolonged excessive use of air . Compressor is not lar ge enough for air requir ement. Hole in hose. Check valve restricted. Air leaks. Restricted air intake filter Decrease amount of air usage.
26- ENG D24910 PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTION Motor will not run. Fuse blown, circuit br eaker tripped. 1. Check fuse box for blown fuse and replace as nec- essary . Reset circuit breaker . Do not use a fuse or circuit br eaker with higher rating than that specified for your particu- lar branch circuit.
27- ENG D24910 PROBLEM CAUSE CORRECTION Knocking Noise. Possible defect in safety valve. Operate safety valve manually by pulling on ring. If valve still leaks, it should be replaced. Loose pulley Tighten pulley set screw; see Parts manual for torque speci- fications.
