Allowing worn out batteries to remain installed in the Handheld T erminal for a long period of time results in the risk of the generation of gas from the batteries causing the batteries to leak fluid, overheat or rupture.

E-8 Saf ety Precautions W arning • Nev er place the battery pack in a microwav e oven or an y other high-voltage device. Doing so creates the danger of battery pack heat emission, explosion, and f i re.
E-9 AC Power Supply W arning • Do not use the Handheld T erminal at a voltag e other than the specified v oltage. Also, do not connect the Handheld T erminal to a multi-plug po wer strip. Doing so creates the danger of fire and electric shock. • A void conditions that can cause damage or breaks in the po wer cord.
E-10 Saf ety Precautions A C Adaptor Caution • The housing of the A C ada ptor can become warm during normal use. • T ake normal precautions against electric shock. • At least once a year , unplug the AC adaptor from the w all outlet and clean any dust that b uilds up between the prongs of the plug.

Install the AA size alkaline batteries. 1 Slide the two main battery cover lock switches on both sides of the Handheld Terminal to the “FREE” position, and remove the main ba ttery cov er .
E-20 When Using the Battery Pac k Charging is required when using the ba ttery pack (HA-A20BA T or DT -5025LBA T) sold separately . Use the Dual Battery Charger when char g ing the battery pack before installing in the Handheld T erminal, or use the Cradle-type Battery Charger or Cradle to charge after installing in the Handheld T erminal.

E-27 Replacing the Battery Y our Handheld T erminal uses two types of battery: main battery and a memory backup battery . AA size alkaline batteries (DT -X5M10E/DT -X5M30E/DT -X5M30U) or the battery pack is used for the main battery .
E-28 Replacing the Battery Replacing the AA size Alkaline Batteries (DT -X5M10E/DT -X5M30E/ DT -X5M30U only) 1. Make sure the Handheld T erminal is turned off. If the power is on, press the power ke y to turn it off. 2. T urn over the Handheld T erminal.
E-29 T o replace the battery pack 1. Make sure that the Handheld T erminal is turned off. If the po wer is on, press the power k ey to turn it of f . 2. T urn over the Handheld T erminal. 3. Slide the two main battery cover lock switches on both sides of the Handheld Terminal to the “FREE” position, and remove the main battery co ver .
E-30 Replacing the Battery 4. Remov e the battery pack by pulling up on the battery pack removal tape. 5. Install a charged battery pack in the Handheld T erminal. • T ake care to ensure it is oriented correctly . • Install the battery pack so that the battery pack removal tape is on top of the battery pack.
E-31 Loading the large-capacity battery pack into the Handheld T erminal After loading the large-capacity battery pack, you need to use the special large- capacity battery pack cover in place of the standard battery cov er . Attachment and remov al of the large- capacity battery pack cover are the same as those for the main battery cov er .

E-33 1 2 2 1 1 Installation Pr ocedure When using AA size alkaline batteries, install the alkaline battery holder according to the following procedure. 1. Make sure the Handheld T erminal is turned of f. If the power is on, press the po wer key to turn it of f.
E-34 Attac hing the Wrist Strap Be sure to attach the wrist strap and use it to protect against dropping the Handheld T erminal when carrying it around. Attach the wrist strap by following the procedure described belo w . 1. Pass the thin cord of the wrist strap through the wrist strap hole on the back of the Handheld T erminal.
E-35 Configuring Handheld T erminal Settings Adjusting Display Contrast Perform the following steps to adjust display contrast to make display more vivid and easier to see. • Press the “Fn” key and then pr ess the “2” key or “3” key after conf irming that “F” is displayed in the lower right cor ner of the screen.
E-36 Using the Laser Scanner (DT -X5M10E/DT -X5M10R only) 1. After turning on the power , position the laser scanner close to a bar code and then press the T rigger key (R or L). 2. The laser emits light and scans the bar code. If scanning is completed normally , Indicator 2 displays a green light and a buzzer sounds.

E-38 Using the C-MOS Imager (DT -X5M30E/DT -X5M30R/DT -X5M30U/DT -X5M30UR only) 1. Turn on the Handheld T erminal, position its C-MOS Imager reader port near the bar code or stacked 2D code, and then press the Trigger K ey (R or L). 2. The Handheld T erminal reads the code by emitting laser and red light.

E-40 Adjusting Laser Emission Width (DT -X5M10/DT -X5M10R only) This Handheld T erminal is able to adjust the emission width of laser light. Adjust the Handheld T erminal by following the procedure described belo w w hen the emission width of the laser light has become of f the proper emission width.
E-41 Emission Width Adjustment Bar code Important! • An error message is display ed when emission width has not been adjusted properly . Repeat the adjustment procedur e when this message is displayed. 4. After checking that the laser light is at the proper position, depress the trigger key for about 1 second.
E-42 P erf orming Comm unication IR Communication IR communication can be used to transfer data between two Handheld T er minals. When performing IR communication, orient the IR ports of both Handheld T erminals so they are pointing directly at each other .
E-43 Bluetooth TM Communication Bluetooth TM protocol can also be used to transfer data between two Handheld T erminals. W ith Bluetooth TM , the two Handheld T erminals should be located within about fi ve meters (19 11 ⁄ 16 " ) from each other , as long as there is nothing blocking the path between them.
E-44 Resetting the Handheld T erminal Reset and Full Reset (Memory Initialization) Reset Resetting the Handheld T erminal is the same as restarting a computer . Performing a reset causes all unsav ed inputs and edits to be lost, but data that is alr eady stored in the memory as well as all settings should be unaffected.
E-45 If reset finds a memory problem A message like the one shown below appears on the display when the reset operation discover s a memory problem. When this message appears, press the R trigger ke y to continue with the reset operation. Note, howe ver , that reset may not be successful depending on the condition of the memory .

E-53 Removing the Fall Protector The Bridge Satellite Cradle and Cradle-type Battery Charger F all Protector can also be remov ed. Howe ver , it is recommended not to remove the Fall Protector if there is the risk of the Handheld T erminal being mistakenly tipped ov er and falling after ha ving been placed in the Bridge Satellite Cradle.
