Setup Outline If any problem occurs during the set up, see “Troubleshooting” on page 30. Symbols Used in This Manual This Network Setup Guide uses the following symbols to indica te important information. Always observe the instructions i ndicated by these symbols.
1 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) Setting Up the Machine and the Computer (Windows) T o use the machine connected to a computer , you need to install the sof tware called “MP Drivers” in the computer . The following two connection types are described in this manual.
2 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 1 Prep aring for Setup Before installing the MP Drivers in your computer , make sure of the following. z If the installation and adjustment of the machine hav e not been finished, refer to your setup sh eet to set up the machine properly .
3 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 2 Inst alling the Soft ware 1 T urn off the machine. 2 T urn the computer on and start Windows. 3 Insert the Setup CD-ROM .
4 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 4 If the AutoPlay screen appears, click Run Msetup4.exe . This screen will not appear in Windows XP and Windows 2000. 5 If the User Account Control screen ap pears, click Continue . If the same screen reappears in subsequent steps, click Continue .
5 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 8 Read the License Agreement careful ly and click Ye s . Installation of the MP Drivers, On-screen Manuals, and application software will begin. The software installation screen may appear during the installation process.

7 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 4 When the Check Wire d LAN Connec tion dialog box app ears, remove the LAN connector cap, connect the machine to the network devices such as hubs with a LAN cable, then click Ye s .
8 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 5 When the Network Setup of the Card Slot dialog box appears, specify the drive letter , then click Next . This screen will not appear in Windows Vista. 6 When the Setup Completion dial og box appears, remove the USB cable, then click Finish .
9 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 8 When the User Registration scree n appears, click Next . If your network is connected to the Inter net, the registration screen will appear. Follow the on- screen instructions to register your product.
10 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Windows) 10 The Inst allation completed successfully screen appears. If only one CD-ROM is inc luded in the package for the Windows setup Click Exit . The Setup CD-ROM will be ejected. If it is not ejected automatically , remove it manually .
11 Setting Up the Machine and the Computer (Windows) 2-2 Setting Up an Addi tional LAN-connected Computer (continued from step 9 on page 5) 1 Make sure tha t the machine is con nected to the network device with a LAN cable, then turn on the machine. When you turn on the mach ine, the COPY button flashes green, then remains lit.

In Windows XP and Windows 2000, go to step 4. 4 When the Network Setup of the Card Slot dialog box appears, specify the drive letter , then click Next .
13 Setting Up the Machine and the Computer (Windows) 5 When the Setup Completion dial og box appears, click Finish . The network connection between the machine and the computer is now successfully established. 6 When the Setup Complete screen a ppears, click Next .

The MP Drivers, On-screen Manuals, and application software are installed automatically .
20 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Macintosh) 9 When the Setup Complete screen a ppears, click Next . 10 When the User Registration scree n appears, click Next . If your network is connected to the Inter net, the registration screen will appear.
21 Setting Up the Mach ine and the Comput er (Macintosh ) 11 When the Inst allation com pleted successfully screen appears, click Restar t . The software installation is complete. When the computer restarts, the Canon IJ Network T ool will start up automatically .
22 Setting Up the Machine and the Comp uter (Macintosh) 12 When the Canon I J Network T ool screen appears, confirm the conne ction type. The next procedure varies depending on how you intend to connect the machine and the computer. When the machine has n ot been connected to the network, perform this setup to use the machine over wired LAN.

(1) Retry Click to retry the network setup of the Card Slot. (2) Skip Click to continue installation without the network setup of the Card Slot.
