2 This machine contains both printed manuals and on-screen manuals to be viewed on a computer . The on-screen manuals are included on the Setup CD-ROM and are installed during the software installation. Describes how to set up and use your machine. Introduces the machine and its functions, the included manuals and application software.
3 Devices Required for Wireless/Wired Connection ■ Wireless Connection When using the machine over a wireless/wired connection, the following devices are required depending on the connection method. Wired Connection Router , etc. A commercial access point or router that supports IEEE802.
1 1 2 A A 4 Preparation Do not install the machine where an object may fall on it. In addition, do not place any object on the top of the machine. It may fall into the machine when opening covers, resulting in malfunction. Paper Output T ray (A) automatically opens when printing starts.
4 5 E F G 6 3 B C D 5 1 Preparation Insert the power cord into the connector on the left side at the back of the machine and into the walloutletrmly . Do NOT connect the USB cable or Ethernet cable at this stage. Make sure that the Document Cover (D) is closed.
8 7 H I J 6 1 Preparation 1. Press the ON button to turn off the machine. 2. Make sure that the POWER lamp (J) is not lit. Operating noise may continue for up to 40 seconds until the machine turns off. When removing the power plug, make sure that the POWER lamp is not lit before removing the plug.
2 1 2 C A B B 7 Install the Print Head Lift the Scanning Unit (Cover) (A) until it stops. The Print Head Holder (C) moves to the installation position. Close the Document Cover (B) and lift it with the Scanning Unit (Cover). If the Print Head Holder does not move, make sure that the machine is turned on.
3 5 4 D E G F 8 2 Install the Print Head Firmly lift the part (D) of the Print Head Lock Lever in the Print Head Holder until it stops. Do not touch the inside of the Print Head Holder (E). The machine may not print properly if you touch it. • Remove the Print Head from the silver package.
6 7 9 2 Install the Print Head T ilt the Print Head forward and set it in place as shown. Hold the Print Head Lock Lever rmlyandloweritcompletely . Do not knock the Print Head against the sides of the holder . Install in a well-lit environment.
3 123 C D A B 10 Install the Ink T anks 1. Remove the orange tape completely . 2.Removetheprotectivelm completely . Handle the ink tanks carefully . Do not drop or apply excessive pressure to them. Be sure to use the supplied ink tanks.
4 5 6 11 3 Install the Ink T anks T ilt the ink tank, then insert it under the label and against the back end of the slot. Install in a well-lit environment. • Press the PUSH markontheinktankrmlyuntil it clicks. When the installation is completed properly , the Ink lamp lights red.
8 E F 7 12 3 Install the Ink T anks Close the Scanning Unit (Cover) (E). Make sure that the LCD changes as shown in the illustration and go to the next step. It takes about 5 minutes before the LCD changes. The machine may make some operating noises when preparing to print.
4 1 3 2 A B C D 13 Align the Print Head Prepare the Paper Support (A). 1. Open it. 2. Withdraw it upwards. 3. Tilt it back. Move the Paper Guides (B) to both edges. Load a sheet of supplied specialty paper (Matte Photo Paper MP-101) in the Rear T ray (C).
4 6 5 7 8 E F 14 4 Align the Print Head Slide the left and right Paper Guides against both edges of the paper . Make sure the Paper Output T ray (E) is open, then open the Output T ray Extension (F). T ouch the OK button. Print Head Alignment starts. When the pattern is printed, remove the printed paper .
5 1 A B C D E 15 Load Paper 1. Close the Output T ray Extension (D). 2. Close the Paper Output T ray (E). With the machine, the paper source varies depending on the media type. Load paper in the Rear T ray (A). Plain paper Specialty paper including photo paper Load paper in the Cassette (B).
5 4 3 2 F G H 16 5 Load Paper Load plain paper . Load paper with the printing side facing down. Slide the front Paper Guide (H) to align with the actual size of the paper . The front Paper Guide will click and stop when it aligns with the corresponding mark of paper size.
678 I 17 5 Load Paper Align the paper to the right side of the Cassette (1), and slide the left Paper Guide completely against the left edge of the paper (2). Make sure that the height of the paper stack does not exceed the line (I). Insert the Cassette slowly into the machine until it clicks into place.

7 19 Do not connect the USB cable yet. Install the Software (USB Connection) Quit all running applications before installation. Log on as the administrator (or a member of the Administrators group). Do not switch users during the installation process.
3 3 A 2 1 20 7 Install the Software (USB Connection) Click Run Msetup4.exe on the AutoPlay screen, then click Y es or Continue on the User Account Control dialog box. If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in following steps, click Y es or Continue .
6 5 4 21 7 Install the Software (USB Connection) Click Install . Click Easy Install . The drivers, application software, and on-screen manuals are installed. Follow any on-screen instructions to proceed with the software installation. Select Use the printer via USB , then click Next .
B 22 7 Install the Software (USB Connection) Necessary Information for the User Registration □ If the Extended Survey Program screen appears □ If you can agree to Extended Survey Program, click Agree . If you click Do not agree , the Extended Survey Program will not be installed.
8 7 23 7 Install the Software (USB Connection) Click Exit to complete the installation. Congratulations! Setup is complete. Proceed to page 45 for information regarding the Solution Menu EX and the on-screen manual or page 46 to start using the machine.
8 24 An “Ad-hoc connection,” which establishes a direct connection to the computer over a wireless connection without using an access point, is not supported.
25 8 Wireless Setup Wireless Setup Using Easy Setup For details on how to check the following information, refer to the manual of your access point or router , or contact its manufacturer . Check the Information for Wireless Connection ■ In most cases, “Easy Setup” will be used to connect the machine to your access point or router .

Use the [ or ] button (C) to select Wireless LAN setup , then touch the OK button. Select Y es , then touch the OK button. When wireless connection is enabled, the Wi-Fi lamp (D) lights blue.
6 7 8 9 E F 27 8 Wireless Setup Make sure that one of the above screens is displayed, then touch the right FUNCTION button. If the above screen is not displayed, go to . Next, read “10 Install the Software (Network Connection)” on page 35! Enter the network key you wrote down on page 25, then touch the left FUNCTION button (E).
2 1 A B C 3 D 28 8 Wireless Setup Wireless Setup Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) Use the { or } button (A) to display Setup , then touch the right FUNCTION button (B). Use the [ or ] button (C) to select Wireless LAN setup , then touch the OK button.
4 5 6 7 29 8 Wireless Setup Select Push button method , then touch the OK button. Select WPS , then touch the OK button. T ouch the OK button. Select Other setup , then touch the OK button. T o use the PIN code method for setup, select PIN code method in , then touch the OK button.
8 9 30 8 Wireless Setup Press and hold the WPS button on the access point (for about 5 seconds), then touch the OK button on the machine within 2 minutes. A B 1 2 C D 33 9 Wired Setup Remove the Cap (A), then connect a network device (router , etc.) with an Ethernet cable (B). Use the { or } button (C) to display Setup , then touch the right FUNCTION button (D).
5 4 3 6 E 34 9 Wired Setup Use the [ or ] button (E) to select Device settings , then touch the OK button. Select LAN settings , then touch the OK button. Select Change wireless/wired , then touch the OK button. Select Wired LAN active , touch the OK button.
10 1 35 Easy-WebPrint EX □ Easy-WebPrint EX is W eb print software that is installed on the computer when installing the supplied software. Internet Explorer 7 or later is required to use this software. An Internet connection is required for installation.
2 2 3 36 10 Install the Software (Network Connection) Click Run Msetup4.exe on the AutoPlay screen, then click Y es or Continue on the User Account Control dialog box. If the User Account Control dialog box reappears in following steps, click Y es or Continue .

Next, read “Registration (Macintosh)” on page 39! On the Canon IJ Network T ool screen, select MG8100 series in Printers , then click Next .
