1 Set Up the Machine Unpacking the Machine Remove all shipping tape and packing material from the machine . Remove the vin yl-tie and label attached on the metal plate in each paper cassette .
2 Before Setting Up the Machine When carr ying the machine, be sure tha t it is carried by two or more people holding the parts indicated below . The shapes of your machine and supplies ma y dier slightly fr om those illustrations listed in this manual.

5 Install Car tridge 1 Remove the cartridge from the bag. 2 Remove the desiccant bag and the shipping tape . 3 Remove the short shipping tape. 4 Remove the packing materials. 5 Gently rock the cartridge several times to evenly distributed the toner inside.
6 7 Remove the long shipping tape . 8 Remove the prot ective cover . 9 Push the release butt on on the left cover of the main unit to open the left cover . 10 Open the front co ver . 11 Rotate the unlock lever until it clicks . 12 While grasping the handle of the cartridge holder , pull the cartr idge holder out of the machine until it stops.
7 13 Hold the cartr idge by its handle, then insert it into the cartr idge holder . 14 Push the cartridge holder into the machine as far as it will go. 15 Rotate the lever to the locked position. 16 Close the front co ver . Be careful not to get your ngers caught .
8 Load P ap er 1 Pull out the paper dra wer until it stops . 2 Push down the metal pla te to lock. If you load L TR size paper , go to step 6, or otherwise go to step 3. 3 Detach the end guide (A) by pr essing it down. Reattach the end guide into the desired paper siz e slots and tilt it backwards to its original upright position.
9 6 F an the paper stack and ev en the edges. 7 Load the paper stack of the appropriate size with the print side facing up. When loading paper , be careful not to cut your ngers at the edges of the paper . Make sure the paper stack does not exc eed the load limit mark (A) and it is loaded under the small ns (B) on the paper guides.
10 9 Pull out the paper size pla te (A) fr om the paper draw er . 10 Stick the appropriate paper siz e label on the paper size plate. 11 Reinser t the paper size plate int o the paper drawer . 12 Push the paper dra wer into the machine as far as it will go.
11 Ax Labels Ax the supplied document size label t o the specied location. 1 Align the slide guide (A ) to the original size mark “ A4/A3” (B). 2 Ax the document size label ( A) to the f eeder cover so that both indica tors (B and C) on the side guide and the document size label are aligned pr operly , as shown on the right.
12 C onnect the Po w er C ord and T urn On the Machine 1 Connect the supplied power cor d (A) in t o the socket and the wall outlet. 2 Pr ess the main power switch t o “I” side. The Start Up screen is displayed until the machine comes to the ready mode .
13 C onnect T elephone Cables B A Connect the supplied telephone cable (A) t o the line jack (B) on the back side of the machine and the wall jack. Set the Date and T ime Before using the machine , you MUST set the curren t date and time. The current date and time settings ar e used as standard timer settings f or functions that require them.
14 1 Pr ess (A dditional F unctions). 2 Pr ess [ T imer Settings]. 3 Pr ess [Date & Time Settings]. 4 Use - (Numeric Keys) to enter the date (month/day/year) and time (in 24-hour/military time format), then pr ess [OK]. Enter the month and the day using f our digits (including zeros).
15 6 Select the time zone in which the machine is located, then pr ess [OK]. The standard time zones of the w orld are expressed globally in terms of the dierenc e in hours (up to 12 hours) from GMT (0 hours). A time zone is a r egion throughout which this time dier ence is the same.
16 9 Select the month and day from the Month and Day drop-down lists, then press [ OK ]. 10 Pr ess [End Date]. 11 Select the month and day at which Daylight Saving Time ends then press [OK]. 12 Pr ess [OK]. 13 Pr ess [OK]. The selected mode is set. 14 Pr ess [Done] repeatedly until the Send Basic F eatures scr een appears.
17 Set the T elephone Line T ype 1 Pr ess (A dditional F unctions). 2 Pr ess [Communica tions Settings]. 3 Pr ess [User Settings] under <F ax S ettings>.
18 Set the Machine for Sending Doc uments Guidelines for Ent ering Informa tion Before sending documen ts, you MUST r egister your fax number , and user name (unit name) in the machine. The sender information y ou regist er in the machine appears in the header of each page receiv ed by your r ecipient.
19 Register Sender Information Y ou must stor e your machine ’ s fax number . This number is print ed on the top of every document you send to the recipient. Y our machine ’ s telephone number ma y also be displayed on the t ouch panel display of the recipient’ s machine, depending on their type of machine.
20 6 Pr ess [Done]. 7 Pr ess [ TX Settings] under <Common Settings>. 8 Pr ess [Unit Name]. Enter your name or c ompany name (and department name if possible) as the unit name. When you send a document, the r ecipient’ s machine will print this unit name as the sender information on the recording paper .
21 Set the Machine for Netw or k U sage (imageCLASS MF7480/MF7470 O nly) C onnect the M achine to a Netw ork This machine has a USB connector and LAN connector . If the machine is connec ted to a network using a LAN cable, you can print the documen ts sent from a comput er .
22 Specify the IP Addr ess Settings An IP address must be specied in or der to enable communication between the machine and comput er . It is recommended that the network administrator perform the following proc edures. Before performing the following pr ocedure, make sur e that the machine is turned on and connected to a network.
23 6 Pr ess [IP Address Settings]. 7 Pr ess [IP Address], then en ter the IP address using - (Numeric Keys). If you specify an IP address using DHCP , BOO TP , or R ARP , press [DHCP], [BOO TP], or [RARP]. One of the DHCP , BOO TP , or RARP settings can be selected at any one time.
24 Installing Sof twar e P er form the following pr ocedure t o install the printer and fax drivers. If you install these driv ers, you can print and fax from your c omputer .
25 Installation P rocedur e f or USB C onnec tion 1 Inser t the UFRII L T/F A X User Software CD-ROM. 2 If the CD-R OM Setup screen is not displayed , click [star t] on the Windo ws task bar → [My Computer]. Window s Vista: click [start] on the Window s task bar → [Comput er].
26 10 11 Attach the ferrite c ore (A ) as close as possible to the B-type side (square) of the USB cable (B). 12 Connect the machine and your computer with a USB cable (A ). If you are using W indows XP , [F ound New Hardware Wizard] dialog box appears .
27 19 20 Select the USB por t you want to use from [P ort]. I f you want to add a port, click [AddP or t] and then selec t the USB port you want to add. 21 22 23 24 25 The Color Network ScanGear installation screen appears . F ollow the on-screen instructions.
28 28 Remove the UFRII L T/F AX User Soft ware CD-ROM. If you are using MF7460, you ha ve now completed installation. 29 Inser t the PCL User Soft ware CD-ROM. (MF7480/MF7470 Only) 30 If the CD-R OM Setup screen is not displayed , click [star t] on the Windo ws task bar → [My Computer].
29 36 Select [Canon MF7400 Series PCL5e] or [Canon MF7400 Series PCL6] . 37 38 Select the USB por t you want to use from [P ort]. I f you want to add a port, click [Add P or t] and then selec t the printer port you want to add. 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 Remove the PCL User Software CD- ROM.
30 1 Connect the machine to the network correctly , and conrm that the pow er is on. 2 Inser t the UFRII L T/F A X User Software CD-ROM. 3 If the CD-R OM Setup screen is not displayed , click [star t] on the Windo ws task bar → [My Computer]. Window s Vista: click [start] on the Window s task bar → [Comput er].
31 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 A [Pr ocess to Install F ax Driver] dialog box will appear if drivers that can be installed with this Installer are already installed.
32 20 21 22 23 24 25 The Color Network ScanGear installation screen appears. F ollow the on-screen instructions. 26 27 28 Remove the UFRII L T/F AX User Soft ware CD-ROM.
33 30 If the CD-R OM Setup screen is not displayed , click [star t] on the Windo ws task bar → [My Computer]. Window s Vista: click [start] on the Window s task bar → [Comput er]. Window s 98/Me/2000: double - click [My Computer] on the W indows desktop .
34 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 Remove the PCL User Software CD- ROM. Y ou have now completed installation..
35 Checking the Installation Check if the drivers are installed succ essfully and that the machine is selected as the default printer . If your machine is selected in the [Printer] area when y ou open the [Print] dialog bo x from an application, your machine is set as the default printer .
