1-9 Before Using the Machine Handset The handset is used to use the machine as a telephone and a fax machine , and to receiv e fax es manually . For how to install the handset, see “Before FAX Setting,” in the Starter Guide. Maintaining the Handset Do not leave the handset exposed t o direct sunlight.
Before Using the Machine 1-10 T oner Car tridge The lifetime of the C anon genuine starter toner car tridge which comes with the machine is appro ximately 1,000 pages , the Canon genuine replac ement toner car tridge is appro ximat ely 2,000 pages.
1-11 Before Using the Machine Maintaining the T oner Cartridge Keep the toner cartridge away from computer scr eens, disk drives , and floppy disks . The magnet inside the toner cartridge may harm these items. Av oid locations subject to high temperatur e, high humidity , or r apid changes in temperatur e.
Before Using the Machine 1-12 If there is a toner pow der leakage, make sure not to inhale or touch the toner po wder . If it comes in contact with your skin, rinse with cold water using soap . If you f eel an irritation on your skin or inhale the powder , consult a doctor immediately .

2-11 Document and Paper 4 Inser t the en velope stack with the print side facing up . 5 Adjust the side paper guides to the siz e of the stack. If the paper guides are not adjusted correctly for the size of the envelopes, the quality of your printouts may be adversely affected.

Sending Documents 3-2 Basic Sending M ethod F ollow this proc edure to send fax es. F or advanced sending f eatures , see Chapter 3, “Sending and Receiving, ” in the Referenc e Guide. Display the Fax Mode Load a Document Make sure the LCD shows the fax mode.

Sending Documents 3-4 Scan S ettings Y ou c an adjust the image quality and density of the document you send. The higher image quality you set, the better the output will be , but the longer the transmission will take . These settings return t o the default values after all documents are scanned.

Using One - T ouch Speed Dialing Key s Y ou can specify up to 15 recipien ts using one -touch speed dialing keys . To use this feature, you must register recipients in one-touch speed dialing keys beforehand.
