2-2 Installing the Print er Driver Chapter 2 Before You Begin the Inst allation: a Checklist 2 To ensure a smooth and successful in stallation, ta ke some time before you begin to plan and prepare for the installation process. ❏ Do not connect. Do not conn ect the printer cable to the port on your computer at this time.

Chapter 2 Installing the Printer Dr iver 2-7 Installing the Printer Driver If you choose to share the use of your printer, your computer acts as the host system or server to t he other computers (also referred to as remote or client sys tems). To use your printer, the client systems must have the printer driver software installed on them.
2-8 Installing the Print er Driver Chapter 2 5. In the Share Nam e box (Windows 98/Me/XP) or Shared As box (Windows 2000), type a name you want to assign to the shared printer. If available, you may also w ant to assign a password, whi ch would then be required by the client system when using the printer.

3-2 Pri nting Chapter 3 Printing a Document 3 Once you ha ve installed t he software, y ou are ready to print a document , from any Windows application that supports printing, such as Word for Window s. Predefined printer setting s are initially ins talled, enab ling you to print immediately.
Chap ter 3 Printin g 3-3 Printing You can change a number o f print settings, such as the paper size , page layout, resolu tion, and halft oning method . If you use certain print settings often, yo u can save the settings as a print profile and reuse the profile as needed.
3-4 Pri nting Chapter 3 4. To accept the changes and close the dialog box, click OK. To accept the chan ges and leave the dialog box open, click Apply. To cancel the ch anges and return to the default sett ings, clic k Restore Defaults. To close the dialog box wi thout accepting any change s, click Cancel.

3-6 Pri nting Chapter 3 Defining Pag e Settings 3 Page settings determine the followin g print results, as defined on the Page Setup tab . ❏ Page Size Click the size of the page you want to use for your printed document.
Chap ter 3 Printin g 3-7 Printing ❏ Orientat ion Click Portrait or Land scape to determine ho w your document is oriented on th e page when prin ted. Portrait prints the conten t of you r document across the narrower dimension of a rectangular sheet of paper.
3-8 Pri nting Chapter 3 2. In the Custom Paper Size Setting dialog box, under Custom Paper List, click an existing form name. 3. If you want to assign a new name to the custom-sized f orm you are defining, type a name in the Name box. 4. Click the unit of measure by which you w ant to define the siz e of your paper.

3-10 Print ing Chapter 3 Defining and Assigning the Custom Form First, you need to define the custom-sized form to make it available on your system. Next, you assign the newly d efined form as an availa ble setting in you r printer driver. To define a custom f orm on your system: 1.
Chap ter 3 Pri nting 3- 11 Printing 6. In the Paper Size boxes, type th e width and height of your fo rm. 7. In the Printer Area Margins boxes, type the appropriat e margins for your form. 8. Click Save Form, and th en click Close to clos e the dialog box.
3-12 Print ing Chapter 3 6. In the Chan ge Forms dialog box, in the Available Form s list, click the custom-sized form to want to assi gn. You can click the preferred unit of measure for reviewin g the size of the selected form.
Chap ter 3 Pri nting 3- 13 Printing The custom-sized form becomes available in your printer driver a nd can be selected in the Page Size and Output Size boxes on the Page Se tup tab. Defining a Print Overlay 3 You can print your document with an image in the foreground or background .
3-14 Print ing Chapter 3 2. In the Overlay dialog box, do one of the following: • In the File Name list , click an existi ng overlay image. • To select a new overlay image file, click Brow se. In the Select File dialog box, type or click the pa th and file name for the im age that you want to use, and then click OK (in Windows XP, click Open).
Chap ter 3 Pri nting 3- 15 Printing When you type, rather than click, the actual values, the preview illustration of the overlay image does n ot automatically reflect the changes. 8. To save you r overlay settings , click OK. To return the position and siz e settings to their origin al values, click Restor e Defau lts.
3-16 Print ing Chapter 3 ❏ Resolution Click the resolution, in dots per inch (dpi) for your printed document. Usually, the higher the resol ution, the sharper the appearan ce of the document.

Chap ter 3 Pri nting 3- 21 Printing Export ing a Pr int Prof ile 3 To keep the number of print profiles to a mi nimum, you can export a print profile as a f ile (with th e file name extension .cf g). Once a print profile is exported, you can delete the print profile from the list.
3-22 Print ing Chapter 3 Importing a Print Profile 3 If you have a print profile that you exported to a f ile and then deleted, you can import the f ile to use the print profile a gain. To re trie ve a p rin t pr ofi le fr om a f ile : 1. In the Edit Prof ile dialog box, in the Prof ile List box, click Import .
