Exif Print This printer supports Exif Print. Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the communication between digital cameras and printers. By connecting to an Exif Print-compliant digital camera, the camera’ s image data at the time of shooting is used and optimized, yielding extremely high quality prints.
1 Preface Shipping Materials Thank you for purchasing a Canon Bubble Jet Printer . Check that all the following items are in the box. If anything is missing or is damaged, contact your local Canon sales representative.
2 Setting Up 1 Pre paring the Printer 1 Place the printer on a flat surface. 2 Remove the tape from the printer as shown. The tape position is subject to change. 3 Open the Front Cover and remove the tape and the shipping material. 4 Close the Front Cover .
3 2 Connecting the Printe r to the Computer Use a USB cable. Recommended: Canon or other computer manufacturer cab le, up to 5 meters in length. Follow the step s belo w to inst all the printer driver correctly . 1 Ensure that the printer and the computer are turned off.
4 3 Installing the Print Head • Never attempt to plug the power cord into the power outlet or unplug the power cord when your hands are wet. • Never damage, modify , stretch, or excessively bend or twist the power cord. Do not place heavy objects on the power cord.
5 5 Remove the protective cap from the Print Head. 6 Place the Print Head in the holder . 7 Lock the Print Head into place by lowering the lever . Do not touch the Lock Lever once the Print Head has been installed. • Do not touch th e Print Head Nozzles or electrical c ontacts.
6 Inst alling the Ink T anks • For safety reasons, store ink tanks out of the reach of small children. • Do not drop or shake ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out and stain your clothes and hands. 1 T ake out the black ink tank. 2 Hold the ink tank as shown in the diagram and remove the protective cap.
7 4 Loading P aper Loading A4 (Letter) Size Plain Paper 1 Open the Paper Support as shown. 2 Load the paper , aligning it with the right side of the Auto Sheet Feeder . Y ou can load a maximum of 100 sheets of plain paper (64 gsm). Do not exceed this limit.
8 5 Installing the Printer Driver Inst alling the Printer Driver – Windows 1 Ensure that the printer and computer are turned off. 2 T urn on the computer and st art Windows. If any applications automatically run, quit them. Disable any virus detection programs.
9 3 Place the Setup Software & User’s Guide CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. 4 Follow the instructions displayed on screen. When the screen shown on the left is displayed, click Easy Inst all . 5 When the list of applications to inst all appears, verify the contents, click Inst all , then follow the instructions on the screen.
10 8 Click OK . Some screens appear after clicking OK . Read the content shown on the screens and click Next . 9 When the screen shown on the lef t appears, click Exit . Y ou can restart the system by clicking Restart , which will appears when you check the check box.

12 7 Select a destination to where you want to install the printer driver , and click Continue . 8 Click Inst all . 9 Enter an administrator name and a password, then click OK . 10 A message asking for your confirmation to restart your comp uter is displayed on the screen.
13 Basic Operations • If you detect smoke, unusual smells or strange noises around the printer , immediately switch the printer off and always unplug the printer . Contact your local Canon service representative. • T o avoid injury , never put your hand or fingers inside the printer while it is printing.
14 Basic Print Settings For the best print quality , specify the minimum requirement settings in the Main tab. T o get the best results, ensure that you select the type of media loaded in th e printer when printing on paper other than plain paper .
15 Printing with Macintosh Adjusting the print settings according to your need s allows you to produce better quality prints. Printing 1 Open the Page Setup dialog box in your application. On the File menu, click Page Setup . Check the application’ s user ’ s manual for the actual procedures.
16 Page Setup Use the Page Setup dialog box to specify the Paper Size settings. Basic Print Settings For the best print quality , specify the minimum requi rement settings in the Print dialog box. Sele ct Quality & Media from the pop-up menu to cha nge the display of the dialo g box.
17 Print Head Maintenance If Blurring Occurs or If a Specific Color Does Not Print Perform print head cleaning to improve the print quality . Ensure that the printer is turned on and follow the instructions below . Windows Open the printer driver settings screen and click the Maintenance tab.
18 2 Install the new ink t ank. Close the Front Cover when finished. When you enable the low in k warning, reset the ink counter of the ink tank installed. Refer to the User ’ s Guide for more detailed procedures and information about maintenance. iP1000_QSG.
19 Appendix Notes on Handling the USB Interface (for W indows Users) If installation of the printer driver does not proceed as instructed in this Quick S tart Guide , there may be a problem with the USB driver installation. T ry reinstalling the printer driver .
