14 P ow er supply Do not damage or modify the power cord. A lso , do not place heavy objects on the power cord , or pull on or ex cessively bend it , as this could cause electrical damage and result in a re or electrical shock.
15 Do not place heavy objec ts on the machine, as the y may tip ov er or fall resulting in personal injury . Close the feeder gently to avoid catching y our hands, as this may r esult in personal injury . Do not press down hard on the feeder when using the platen glass to mak e copies of thick books.
16 The laser beam can be harmful to human bodies. Since radia tion emitted inside the product is completely con ned within protective housings and external covers , the laser beam cannot escape from the machine during any phase of user oper ation. Read the following r emarks and instructions for safety .
17 Maintenanc e and Inspec tions When cleaning the machine, rst turn OFF the main pow er switch, then disconnect the power c ord. F ailure to observe these steps may result in a re or electrical shock.
18 The xing unit and its surroundings inside the machine may become hot during use . When removing jammed paper or when inspecting the inside of the machine, do not touch the xing unit and its surroundings , as doing so may result in burns or electrical shock.
19 T elephone Equipment When using telephone equipment incorporated in to this machine, basic safety pr ecautions should always be follow ed to reduce the risk of re, electrical shock, or injury to persons, including the following: 1. Do not use this machine where there is a potential for contact with water or other liquid .
20 Installa tion Loca tion and Handling This section describes precautions for installation location and handling. We recommend that y ou read this section prior to using this machine.
21 A void locations that ar e subject to vibration. F or example, avoid installing the machine on unstable oors or stands. A void exposing the machine to r apid changes in temperatur e. If the room in which the machine is installed is cold but rapidly heated, water dr oplets (condensation) may form inside the machine.
22 Moving the Machine If you intend t o move the machine , even to a location on the same oor of your building, contact your local authorized Canon dealer bef orehand. 23 Handling Pr ecautions Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the machine. Some par ts inside the machine ar e subject to high-voltages and temper atures.
24 Backing Up/Expor ting Data Various data such as the r eceived data, address book, and Settings/Registration settings are stor ed in memor y . A malfunction in memor y may cause these data to be lost. Please regularly back up/export your important data.

31 Shutting Down the Machine This machine per forms a pr ocedure to pr otect memor y when the machine is shut down. This enables the machine to be shut down safely , even if there are any jobs being pr ocessed, or a MEAP application is running while the machine is shutting down.
