If you conne ct the compact power adapter to the camcorder while a battery pack is attached, the camcor der will draw power from the power outlet.

Preparations 26 2 Date, Time and Language Settings Date, Time and Langua ge Settings Setting the Date and Time Y ou will need to set the date and ti me of the camcorder before you can start using it. When the camcorder’ s clock is not set, the [Date/T ime] screen will appear automatical ly with the year selected.

Displaying the Date and Time while Recording Y ou can display the date and time in the lower left of the screen.
Preparations 28 2 Using the Menus Using the Menus In mode, many of the camcorder’ s functions can be adjusted from the menu for general settings, whic h opens after pressing the MENU button. In mode, press the MENU button to open the menu for general settings or SET to open the clip menu for clip operations.

49 Recording 3 Recor ding Video 1 Remaining battery time • The icon shows a r ough estimate of the remaining charge as a percentage of the full charge of the battery pack. The r emaining recor ding/playback time of the battery pack is displayed, in minutes, next to the icon.

When you use full manual focus or manual focus, you can use the peaking and magnification functions to help you focus more accurately . Full manual focus (FULL MF): Use the focus ring to adjust the focus.

Recording 56 3 Adjusting the Focus Autofocus Mode The camcorder uses the TTL autofocus system and continuously adjusts the focus on the subject in the center of the screen. The focusing range is 2 cm (at full wide-angle, measured fr om the front of the lens barr el) to f .
57 Recording 3 Adjusting the Focus Push AF During manual focus mode or Normal AF mode, press the PUSH AF button and hold it pressed down. • T he autofocus (Instant AF mode) is activated as long as you hold the PUSH AF button pressed down. Y ou can also use the PUSH AF button on the optional ZR-2000 Zoom Remote Controller .
Recording 58 3 Adjusting the Focus • T o change the main subject when there is more than one person, press the assignable button set to [Select Face]. NOTES • The camcor der may mistakenly detect the faces of non-human subjects. In such case, turn face detection off.
59 Recording 3 Image Stabilizer Image Stabilizer Use the image stabilizer to compensa te for camcorder shake in or der to achieve steadier shots. There ar e 3 me thods of image stabilization; select the method that best suits your needs. 1 Open the [Image Stabilizer] submenu.
Recording 60 3 Gain Gain The gain control adjusts the level of the video signal generated depending on the lighting and shooting condit ions. Y ou can select automatic or manual gain control. Automatic Gain Control (AGC) Automatically adjusts the gain ba sed on the subject’ s brightness.
61 Recording 3 Gain Manual Gain Control Set the AGC switch to OFF to set the gain manually . Y ou can select one of 3 preset gain levels (L: low , M: middle, H: high) to which you can independently assign gain values. Y o u can also fine-tune the gain in 0.
Recording 62 3 Gain NOTES • When you select high gain levels, the pictur e may flicker slightly . The 33.0 dB gain level in particular , al lows you to shoot video with a higher sensitivity but is more pr one to th e appearance of no ise and artifacts (white dots, vertical streaks or blocking).
63 Recording 3 Shutter Speed Shutter Speed Set the shutter speed based on the recor ding conditions. For example, you may want to set slower shutter speeds in darker environments. The camcorder of fers the following 6 modes. OFF: The camcorder uses a standar d shutter speed based on the frame rate.
Recording 64 3 Shutter Speed Changing the Shutter Speed Mode 1 Set the SHUTTER switch to ON. • T he shutter speed displayed on the bottom of the screen changes depending on the mode. For mode s other than auto, the setting appears highlighted in orange.
65 Recording 3 Shutter Speed Flicker Reduction Y ou can reduce flicker caused by re cording under fluor escent lamps. 1 Open the [Flicker Reduction] submenu.
Recording 66 3 Adjusting the Apertur e Adjusting the Aperture Y ou can affect the brightness of your re cordings or change the depth of field by adjusting the aperture. Incr ease the aperture value (F8 to F9.5) so that objects that are close and far away will be in focus.
67 Recording 3 Adjusting the Apertur e • When you set the apertur e value manua lly , it is not retained if you activate automatic aperture contr o l (excluding full auto mode). The aperture value set automatically by th e camcor der will be retained when you switch back to manual aperture contr o l.
Recording 68 3 Adjusting the Apertur e Adjusting the AE Level Use the AE shift control to adjust AE level in or der to dark en or lighten the image. Y ou can select from 15 AE levels. 1 Open the [AE Shift] submenu. [ l Camera Setup] [AE Shift] 2 Select an AE level and then press SET .
69 Recording 3 Using the ND Filter Using the ND Filter Using the ND filters allows you keep the aperture within an appr opriate range when recor ding in bright surroundings*. * When recording in bright surr oundings, the camcorder closes down the apertur e.
Recording 70 3 White Balance White Balance The camcorder uses an electr onic wh ite balance process to calibrate the picture for accurate color display under dif ferent lighting conditions. There are 4 methods of setting the white balance. Auto white balance: The camcorder automatically adjusts the white balance to the optimal level.
71 Recording 3 White Balance Preset White Balance The camcorder comes pr eset with outd oor (daylight: 5,600 K) and indoor (incandescent light: 3,200 K) settings . Y ou can fine tune the setting after selecting it. 1 Set the AWB switch to OFF . 2 Set the WHITE BAL.
Recording 72 3 White Balance Setting the Color T emperature The following procedur e allows you to specify the color temperature between 2,000 K and 15,000 K in 100 K increments. 1 Set the AWB switch to OFF . 2 Set the WHITE BAL. switch to PRESET . 3 Open the [White Balance] submenu.
73 Recording 3 White Balance Recording with a Custom White Balance 1 Set the AWB switch to OFF . 2 Set the WHITE BAL. switch to the desired custom setting, A or B. • The selected custom white balance setting is activated. Recording 74 3 Zooming Zooming Y ou can operate the zoom (up to 18x) using the zoom rocker on the side grip or the one on the handle. Y ou can also use the zoom ring on the lens or the zoom buttons on the wireless contr o ller . Selecting the Zoom Controls Set the ZOOM switch to the desired option.
75 Recording 3 Zooming Using the Zoom Rockers, Wireless Contr oller or Optional Remote Control When you operate the zoom, a zoom indi cator* will appear on the screen that shows the approximate zoom po sition. T o use the zoom rockers, make sure to set the ZOOM switch to ROCKER in advance.
Recording 76 3 Zooming Approximate zoom speeds (grip zoom r ocker) * When the zoom speed is too fast (less than 2 seconds end-to-end), the camcorder will ha ve more tr ouble focusing automatically while zooming. Using the Handle Zoom Rocker Use the ZOOM SPEED switch and functions in the [ l Camera Setup] [Zoom] submenus to set the zoom speed.

Recording 78 3 Onscr een Markers and Zebra Patter ns Onscreen Markers and Zebra P atterns Using onscreen markers allows you to make sur e your subject is correctly framed and is within the appropriate safe ar ea. The zebra patterns help you identify areas that ar e overexpo sed.
79 Recording 3 Onscr een Markers and Zebra Patter ns 4 Select [Enable], select [On] and then press SET to enable the onscreen markers. • All of the selected onscr een markers will be displayed.
Recording 80 3 Onscr een Markers and Zebra Patter ns 4 Select a zebra level and then press SET . 5 Press the ZEBRA button to activate the selected zebra pattern.
81 Recording 3 Setting the Time Code Setting the Time Code The camcorder can generate a time co de signal and embed it in your recor dings. Y ou can have the camcorder output the time code signal from the HD/SD SDI terminal ( b only) or TIME CODE terminal ( b only; 0 87).
Recording 82 3 Setting the Time Code Setting the T ime Code’ s Initial Value If you set the running mode to [Preset] , you can set the initial value of the time code. 1 Open the time code [Setting] submenu. [ L TC/UB Setup] [T ime Code] [Setting] 2 Select [Set] and then press SET .
83 Recording 3 Setting the Time Code Putting the Time Code Display on Hold If you set an assignable bu tton to [Time Code Hold] ( 0 107), you can freeze the display of the time code*. While the time code display is put on hold, [H] will appear on the screen ne xt to the time code and [HOLD] will appear on the side panel.
Recording 84 3 Setting the User Bit Setting the User Bit The user bit display can be selected from the date or the time of recor ding, or an identification code consisting of 8 characters in the hexadecimal system. There ar e sixtee n possible characters: the numbers 0 to 9 and the letters A to F .
85 Recording 3 b Synchr onizing with an Exter nal Device b Synchronizing wit h an External Device Using genlock synchronization, you can synchr onize this camcorder's video signal to that of an external video device. Similarly , using an external time code signal, you can synchronize this camcorder's ti me code to the external signal.
Recording 86 3 b Synchr onizing with an Exter nal Device Using a Reference Video Signal (Genlock Synchronization) When a refer e nce sync signal (analog bl ackburst or tri-level signal) is input through the GENLOCK terminal, the ph ases of the camcor der's V and H sync will automatically be synchron ized to it.
87 Recording 3 b Synchr onizing with an Exter nal Device • I f the external Genlock signal is inco rrect or there is no input signal, the external time code that is recorded may be incorr ect.
Recording 88 3 Recor ding Audio Recording Audio The camcorder featur es two-channe l linear PCM audio recor ding and playback with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz. Y ou can record audio using the built-in microphone, opti onal external microphone (XLR terminal) or line input (XLR termin al).

91 Recording 3 Recor ding Audio Options Adjusting the External Microphone’ s Sensitivity Y ou can adjust the external microphone ’ s sensitivity if the XLR terminal switch is set to MIC or MIC+48V . 1 Open the desired XLR terminal’ s sensitivity submenu.
Recording 92 3 Recor ding Audio Adjusting the Audio Level Y ou can set the audio level to auto or manual for each channel. When both CH1 and CH2 are set to the built-in micr ophone ( 0 88), the settings for CH1 will automat ically be applied to CH2.
93 Recording 3 Recor ding Audio Monitoring the Audio with Headphones Connect headphones to the W (headphone) terminal to monitor the recor ded audio. Y ou can use the HE ADPHONE +/- buttons to adjust the volume. NOTES • Use commer cially available headphones with a cable no longer than 3m .
Recording 94 3 Using Metadata Using Metadata The camcorder automatically adds meta data to clips while they ar e being recor ded. Metadata consists of the user-defined user memo* and recor ding data, such as shutter spee d, exposure and focus settings.

Recording 96 3 Video Scopes Video Scopes The camcorder can display a simp lified waveform monitor or vectorscope. It can also display an edge monitor* to help you focus. The video scopes appear only on the LCD screen. They do not appear in the viewfinder or on an external monitor .
