Thank you for purchasing this Cambridge Audio Azur range AV Receiver. We hope that you enjoy many years of pleasure from it. The 340R is designed for e xcellent multi-channel surround-sound per formance without com promising on music reproduction.

340R azur 5 ENGLISH Pow er On/Of f Switches the unit on and off. Mains power lead Once you ha ve completed all connections, plug the A C power lead into an appropriat e mains socket. The A V receiver is now ready for use. Speaker t erminals Connect to loudspeak ers with an impedance of between 4-8 ohms.

8 F ront panel display Digital/Analog indicators Indicates the current sour ce input type - digital or analog. Decoding mode indicators Shows the current decoding type: Dolby Digital, Pr o Logic II or DTS. In conjunction with the Output Channel indicators these give full details of the current processing mode.
340R azur 9 ENGLISH Analog audio connections Note: Do not plug in the mains pow er lead or turn the unit on until all connections hav e been made. Connect to source eq uipment using stereo phono cables (stereo 2RCA- 2RCA). T ape/MD/CDR recorder/play er s require two sets of st ereo phono/RCA cables, one f or recording, one for listening.
10 Video connections For best picture quality w e recommend making a HDMI connection, then in declining order of quality , Component video connections, S-Video connections and then Composite video connections. T o use HDMI (digital connection), see the next section belo w.

12 T o setup your speak er configuration, press the OSD button on the remote t o activate the On-Screen Display (OSD). Note: Y ou must be connected t o a T V/Monitor by Composite or S-Video connections first.
340R azur 13 ENGLISH Because the speakers in a surr ound sound system are usually dif ferent distances from the list ener the 340R incorporates the ability to apply a variable digital dela y to each of the channels so that the sound from each arrives at the same time at the list ening position for best surround- sound effect.
14 The next st ep is to select each source input in turn on the 340R and tell the unit the type of audio connection you want t o use for that source (Analog or Digital input). The 340R remembers this setting individually for every source input and automatically recalls it as and when you change source input.

18 Dynamic Range Control This setting controls the dynamic range of Dolb y Digital or DTS movie soundtracks by compressing the dynamics in f our stages to limit the difference in lev el between loud and quiet passages in the movie. This can be a useful feature when w atching movies late at night f or instance.
340R azur 19 ENGLISH Note: These adjustments work in the digitally processed St ereo and Surround modes but not in 5. 1 Direct mode. The Sub/LFE channel (for DD / D TS material) can also be trimmed by.
20 Bass Augment can be a useful function with PLII mat erial because this encoding type does not include an LFE Channel. This would normally mean that if all the speakers in your setup w ere set to ‘Large’, the subwoof er would in fact be inactive (as no bass has been re-direct ed plus there is no LFE channel).
