5 PC Installing Using PC USB Hi-Speed Port Overview Before plugging in the drive, make sure your computer system have a USB Hi-Speed port available. Windows Setup 1. Start up the computer and boot into W indows. 2. Normally your machine will be ready to install new hardware.
6 V erifying Installation 1. After the driver setup has completed, check for proper installation. T o do this, go to My Computer . Double click on My Computer on the desktop. If you cannot fi nd on desktop, click on Start and click on My Computer . Make sure that there is a new hard drive and drive letter listed.
7 PC Operating Instructions • NOTE: In order to make sure that W indows fi nishes writing all the data that is pending to the drive, be sure to follow safe removal procedures to avoid losing data or crashing W indows.
8 If the computer fails to respond or give the message “The device ‘Generic volume’ cannot be stopped right now .” , try one more time. If unsuccessful again, shut down the computer before removing the device.
9 PC Partitioning / Formatting Instructions Y our drive is preformatted with NTFS partition; it is ready to be used in a PC. NTFS is usable in Windows XP/ V ista. If you ever found a need to reformat the drive, make sure you follow these instructions.
10 Macintosh Installing Using MAC USB Hi-Speed Port Older Macintosh model does not come with USB Hi-Speed port. Y ou will need to purchase a USB Hi-Speed PCI card for desktop or CARDBUS card for notebook. At present only OS X 10.2.8 and higher, supports USB Hi- Speed.
11 MAC Formatting Instructions The drive is preformatted with F A T32 partition; it is ready to be used in a Macintosh and PC. If you do not need compatibility with PC, it is recommended that you reformat the drive into MAC native format before use.
12 6. Click Erase to con fi rm. 7. Disk Utility will start formatting the drive. Y ou can see the progress bar at the bottom of the window . The blue bar indicates the progress. Once it go all the way to the right, the format is done. 8. After it’ s done, you can quit the utility .
