GT-3 Series ii WARNING Installation Do not set up the printer in a dusty environment. If dust collects inside the printer, it may cause fire or electric shocks or problems with correct operation.
CAUTION Installation Setting up and moving of the printer should only be carried out by a qualified technician. The printer machine weighs approximately 1 1 1 kg (245 lb). T ransporting and setting up of the printer should be held in proper way . The machine may fall down and cause injury .

Printing Directly from Applications 31 Print Layout: Y our printer has a large print area 14x 16 inches (35 x 40 cm), Any application has a rule to do the layout in printing, e.g. Microsoft Internet Explore sets the artwor k at the center top, Microsof t Power Point does at the center middle.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 32 4-2-2. Settings for CorelDRAW Color settings: (1) Select [ T ools ] > [ Color Management ] (2) CorelDRA W 10/1 1/12: Select “Color Management of f” as the style. CorelDRA W X3/X4: Select RGB radio button.

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 34 Print Area: CorelDRA W 10/1 1/12/X13/X14 (1) Select [ File ] > [ Print Setup ] menu. (2) Select “Brother GT -3” or "Brother GT -3 FileOutput" for t he printer to be used. Select either one of those as your PC's default printer then the settings will be easier .

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 36 Convert to Bitmap: (1) Select [ Bitmaps ] > [ Convert to Bitmap... ] menu. (2) CorelDRA W 10/1 1/12: Make sure that "Color" is RGB and "Apply ICC Profile" is OF F . 200 - 400 dpi is enough for solid clipart.

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 38 4-2-3. Settings for Adobe Photoshop Color settings: (1) Select [ Edit ] > [ Color Settings ] menu. The Color Settings window appears. (2) Make Color settings as follows, and then click “OK".

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 43 Change RGB=255 bitmap white to RGB=254: RGB=255 (paper color) white is always transp arent with no ink printed. When you print an image like photo, there may be RGB=255 white spots and they will be ink holes.

Printing the image file on Transparent Layer This menu can handle the image on the transparent layer , which was impossible on previous GT models. The image format TIFF , PNG , PSD (Photoshop) can have a info rmation of transparent info as well as RGB info.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 59 Step 2: Save the RGB info and transp arent info to different PNG files. (1) Open the PNG file with Microsof t Paint (Windows XP and Vi st a) and then the transparent info will be ignored. Save as another PNG file with [ File ] > [ Save as .
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 60 (5) Delete the Red, Green and Blue Channel s in the Channels. Right-click the channel to be deleted and select [ Delete Channel ] . (6) The dialog box “Flatten layers? ” appears. Click [ OK ]. (7) The only “test” channel is lef t after you delete the Red, Green and Blue channels.

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 65 4-4. Uninstalling / Installing the Platen Replace the Platen for your print material. When the option Platen e.g. Y outh Platen is used, be sure to set "Platen Size" in Printer Driver menu (see "4-3-3.

GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 67 4-4-3. Lowering the Platen height The Platen height can be lowered by 13 mm by replacing the Bush Platen Shaft and the Platen Positioning Plate to "Platen Lowering Set" (option). Prepare a hexagon wrench (3 mm).

Do not handle the platen while printing. If your hand gets caught between the platen or the T -shirt tray and the covers, it may be injured.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 70 (4) Place the T -shirt, with its print side on the top of Platen and the o ther side underneath the Platen, as shown below . The Pretreatment must be applied first when you print on dark-color ed T -shirt s with White ink.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 71 (7) Press the Platen Button to insert the Platen , and check the clearance between the flap of the Clearance Sensor and the T -shirt. If the Platen height is appropriate, the spa ce is around 2.0 mm, to avoid the fuzzy fiber s on the surface.

Do not handle the platen while printing. If your hand gets caught between the platen or the T -shirt tray and the covers, injury may result.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 73 How to dilute Pretreatment : Y ou can have some margins to dilute Pretreatment. Select the ratio for your material and purpose.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 74 How to apply with the roller: (1) Pour the Pretreatment onto the tray . Place the roller in to pretreatment and make it absorb enough pretreatment. Our option Roller is recommended to apply even and smooth.
GT-3 Series 4. Printing Directly from Applications 75 4-6-2. Making One Print GT -3 receives the next print dat a from PC in printing. Just before you press the Print Button, confirm the Job Comment (or file name) and the counter on the display of the Control Panel.

Printing AR3 Files When saving a print data in AR3 format file, you can select the printing procedure by ei ther of these two methods z Print an AR3 file with GT -3 File Viewer . Y ou can check the detailed print conditions and ink cost before sending a print data to your printer .

Reading AR3 Files S aved in a USB flash drive <Note> z Use a USB flash drive: the cap aci ty under 32 GB, F A T 32 formatted. z Y our printer can only read AR3 files from a USB flash drive. (1) Insert the USB flash drive into the Slot in front of the Operation Panel.
GT-3 Series 5. Printing AR3 Files 80 5-3. Sending AR3 Files from GT-3 File Viewer to y our Printer (1) Double-click the AR3 file directly or se lect the GT -3 File Viewer in your PC's [ All Program ] > [ Brother GT -3 T ools] and click [ Browse… ] to open the AR3 file.
GT-3 Series 5. Printing AR3 Files 81 (3) When the White dat a is included, you can simulate the pr int by changing the background color . Click [ Change ] button and select the color . When [ Show White Image ] is chec ked, White data under the Color data is indicated.

GT-3 Series 6. Maintenance 83 6 . Maintenance For optimum product performance regular maintenance is required. DANGER Wait at least 5 minutes after turning off the power switch and disconnecting the power cord from the wall outlet before opening the right-side cover of the control unit.
GT-3 Series 6. Maintenance 84 6-1. Replacing Consumables This section describes how to replace the consumables and the maintenance of the printer . 6-1-1. Replacing the Ink Cartridge The ink indicator on the Display flashes when the Ink Cartri dge is getting low .
GT-3 Series 6. Maintenance 85 (2) Remove the used Ink Cartridge from the slot of the printe r . Put your finger to the handle and pull out the Ink Cartridge. <Note> Leave the used Ink Cartridge installed until just before the replacement. Leaving you r printer with no Ink Cartridge installed may cause ink leakage or other seri ous damages.
GT-3 Series 6. Maintenance 86 6-1-2. Replacing the Wiper Cleaner and Cleaning the Caps / Wipers The Wiper Cleaner needs to be repla ced regularly . Keep t he Print Head Cap and Wiper Blade clean when replacing the Wiper Cleaner . If not, the waste ink may drop on a T -shirt in printing or mis-firing ma y not be easily improved.

Clean the Caps and Wipers for both sid e, as for Color pour W ash Liquid into the Caps to prevent ink clogging inside the Maintenance Unit.
