Use and installation are nearly identical to previous versions of atmospherically f ired and vent ed wat er heaters.
4 S YMPT OM PR OB ABLE C A USE C ORRECTIVE A CTION Pilot Will Not Light 1 . No incoming gas or too low gas pressure. 2. Gas control knob set to wrong position. 3. Pilot light button not being fully depressed when attempting to light pilot. 4. Pilot orif ice or pilot tube is obstructed or kinked.

7 SERVICE PROCEDURE RG-I Inner Door/Gask et Remo v al, Inspection R eplacement and R einstallation St ep 1 0. Firmly place right side inner door flange agains t the lef t side inner door f lange and secure with two 1/4” drive screws from step 3c. DO NOT O VER TIGHTEN SCREWS.
8 SERVICE PROCEDURE RG-II Thermocouple T esting and Replacement Closed Cir cuit Ther mocouple T es ting St ep 1 . Disconnect thermocouple from combination thermostat/g as valve. St ep 2. Connect a thermocouple adapter (BWC P/N 239-44642-00, R ober tshaw P/N 75036) at the thermocouple location in the combination thermostat/g as valve.

11 SERVICE PROCEDURE RG-IV Piezo Igniter , Electrode T esting and Replacement Piezo Ignit er , Electrode T esting and R eplacement With the pilot not in operation (no pilot f lame) y ou can check the Piezo and electrode circuit by viewing pilot thru the sight glass located on the inner door and observing the spark action.
Combination Ther mos t at/Gas V al v e T esting and R eplacement The combination thermostat/gas valve is a non repairable device. If trouble shooting has determined a problem with the combination thermostat/g as valve, it must be replaced.
THERMOC OUPLE TES TIN G See SERVICE PROCEDURE II MA GNET ASSEMBL Y TES TIN G St ep 1 . Disconnect thermocouple from combination thermostat/g as valve. St ep 2. Connect a thermocouple adapter (BWC P/N 239-44642-00, Robertshaw P/N 75036) at the thermocouple location in the combination thermostat/g as valve.
C OMBIN A TION THERMOS T A T/GAS V AL VE REPL A CEMENT St ep 1 . R otate knob of the combination thermostat/g as valve to the “OFF” position. St ep 2. T ur n of f gas supply to water heater . St ep 3. Disconnect gas supply line from combination thermostat/g as valve.
15 St ep 7 . R emov al of combination thermostat/g as valve. a) Disconnect main bur ner feedline (3/4” wrench), pilot tube (7/1 6" wrench) and thermocouple (3/8" wrench) from combination thermostat/g as valve & remov e from the combustion chamber .
St ep 9. R einstallation of inner door assembly . (cont.) b) Clean any gask et residue or other debris from combustion chamber surface before installing the inner door/gask et assembly . c) P osition thermocouple, pilot tube and Piezo wire against lef t side inner door flange gask et.
MAIN BURNER: Inspection, A djus tment, Cleaning and Replacement At periodic intervals (not more then 6 months) a visual inspection should be made of the main bur ner f or proper opera- tion and to insure no debris accumulating. Main burner should light smoothly from pilot and burn with a blue f lame with a minimum of yellow tips.

BURNER CLEANIN G (cont.) St ep 5. Disconnect (unscrew) main burner (stamped steel “B” bur ner) from main burner orif ice or on cast iron bur ners (“C” burner), loosen air shutter & disconnect (unscrew) feedline from burner .

Disconnect wire leads from resettable thermal switc h. St ep 4. R emov e resettable thermal switc h from inner door (Phillips screw driver).

Connect hose to drain spigot of wat er heater and rout e to an open drain. Open a nearby hot water faucet to vent heater f or draining.
