AIWN-UM-7001-01 1-1 1 Chapter O VERVIEW P RODUCT D ESCRIPTION Delivering a comprehensive set o f Ethernet services requires an intelligent Ethernet network interface unit (ENIU) to serve as the service demarcation point at the edge of the customer's network.
Chapter 1: Overview August 7, 2006 1-2 AIWN-UM-7001-01 F RONT P ANEL Each ENIU has three LEDs, a ST A TUS LED, a LPBK LED, and a LOS/LINK LED. Unde r normal operation the ENIU ST A TUS LED is green. Front p anel indi cators and controls ar e defined in T a ble 1-1 on p ag e 1-2 .
AIWN-UM-7001-01 2-1 2 Chapter I NSTALLATION When using the mounting bracket, allow six inches (15.3 cm) on both en ds of the ENIU for cable access. Inst all the ENIU using the following proce dures.

Ground Connection T o assure pr oper operation, the ground st ud located on the back of the ENIU (see Figure 2- 2 on page 2- 3 ) should be connected to a good earth ground.

Refer to your work order to determine the required communications connections. After dete rmining the requir ed con nections , make the necessary connection .
AIWN-UM-7001-01 3-1 3 Chapter C OMMAND -L INE I NTERFACE (CLI) This section lists the commands used to operate the ENIU. Af ter the initial inst allation of an ENIU, most testing and local operations are co nducted with the Command Line Interface through a VT -100 compatible terminal.
