When using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury , basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following: PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS. ■ Use only for its intended use. ■ Do not touch hot surfaces.
■ Do not use the Carafe if the glass is cracked or has a loose or weakened handle. ■ Do not remove Carafe from “Keeps Hot” plate while liquid is dripping from basket. Allow basket to cool before removing it from the Coffeemaker . ■ Do not clean the Carafe with cleansers, steel wool, or other abrasives.
Before the first use, remove all stickers, packing material, and literature. Clean the Carafe, Filter Basket, W ater Spreader , and Carafe Lid by washing in hot, sudsy water — rinse thoroughly .
5 BREWING COFFEE 1. Remove the W ater Spreader and place a paper coffee filter into the Filter Basket. Add drip grind coffee to the filter corresponding to the amount of coffee to be brewed (usually one heaping tablespoon for every two cups. Adjust to suit your taste).
CARING FOR YOUR CARAFE T o clean your Coffeemaker after brewing cof- fee, be sure the unit is OFF and has cooled. Discard the paper filter and grounds, and clean as follows: Filter Basket, W ater Spreader , Carafe, and Carafe Serving Lid are all top rack dishwash- er -safe; or , they may be hand washed in hot, sudsy water .
Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog your Coffeemaker . It is necessary to regu- larly clean your Coffeemaker to flush out these deposits. Excessive steaming or a prolonged brewing cycle are signs that a cleaning is needed. Clean your Coffeemaker approximately every 1-3 months.
ELECTRICAL CORD 8. Fill the Reservoir with cold water to the 10-cup line (model DCM94WH) or the 12- cup line (model DCM12WH or DCM12WL); replace the empty Basket, W ater Spreader , and Carafe. 9. T urn on the Coffeemaker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining clean- ing solution.
Service, if necessary , must be performed by a Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc., Household Appliance Company-Owned or Authorized Service Center . The Service Center nearest you can be found in the yellow pages of your phone book under “Appliances-Small- Repairing.
