ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide 34 Ch apter 3 Wireless LAN Network • Every device in the same wireless network must use security compatible with the AP or peer computer . Security stops unauthorized devices from using the wireless network. It can also protect the information that is sent in the wireless network.
ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Network 35 This type of security does not protect the information that is sent in the wireless network. Furthermore, there are ways for unauthorized wireless devices to get the MAC address of an authorized device.
ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide 36 Ch apter 3 Wireless LAN Network • Shared Key mode involves a shared secret ke y to authenticate the wireless station to the AP or peer computer . This re quires you to enable the wireless LAN security and use same settings on both the wireless statio n and the AP or peer computer .
ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide Chapter 3 Wireless LAN Network 37 If the AP or the wireless clients do n ot support WP A2, just use WP A or WP A-PSK depending on whether you have a n external RADIUS server or not. Select WEP only when the AP and/or wireless clients do not support WP A or WP A2.

ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide 92 Appendix D Wireless Security EAP-TLS (T ransport Layer Security) W ith EAP-TLS, digital certifications are needed by both the server and the wireless stations for mutual authentication. The server presents a certificate to the client.
ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide Appendix D Wir eless Security 93 For added security , certificate-based authen tications (EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS and PEAP) use dynamic keys for data encryption. They are ofte n deployed in corporate environments, but for public deployment, a simp le user name and p assword pair is more practical.
ZyXEL G-202 User’s Guide 94 Appendix D Wireless Security TKIP uses 128-bit keys that are dyna mically genera ted and distributed by the authe ntication server . AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) is a block cipher that uses a 256-bit mathematical algorithm called Rijndael.
