13 Knowing the Key s Key Function Power Key Press and h old to pow er on, pow er of f, restart, sele ct phone mo des, or turn on/off airplane mo de. Press and h old for abou t 8 second s to restart the p hone. Press to tur n off or on the screen display.

15 2. Pull ou t the mi cro-SIM card tray and plac e th e micro-S IM c ard on the tray as show n. Then care fully install the tray ba ck. Charging the Battery If the battery is low , there w ill be a pop-up message on the screen. A s you charge your phone , the screen w ill t ell you the exact battery level each time you w a ke up your phone.
16 2. Connect t he charger to a standard AC w all outle t. If the ph one is on, you’ll see a charging icon, suc h as or , appear on the statu s bar. 3. Disconnec t the charger when the battery is fully charge d. Powering On/Off Press and h old the Powe r Key to turn on your ph one.
17 Setting Up for the Firs t T ime When you first pow er on your pho ne after you purcha se it or reset it to factory setting s (see Settin gs - Personal - Backup and Reset ), you n eed to do some se ttings before using it. 1. Flick the la nguage field to selec t the language yo u w ant to use and the n touch Star t .
18 Locking/Unlocking t he Scree n and Keys Your phone allows you to quickly loc k the scree n and keys (put the phone to sleep mo de) when not in use and to turn the screen back on and unlock it w hen you need it. To lock the screen and keys: To quickly turn the screen off and lock the keys, pres s the Powe r Key .

Getting to Kno w the Home S creen The home screen is the starting p oint for your phone’s appli cations , functions , and menus . You can cu stomize your home scree n by adding application icons, sho rtcuts, folders, widgets, and more.
21 Extended hom e screens Your home screen ex tends beyon d the initial screen, pr oviding more spa ce to add icons, w idgets, and more . Simply swipe left or right on the screen to se e the ex tended home scre en s.
22 Personalizi ng Changing the Sy st em Language 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System se ttings > Languag e & input > L anguage . 2. Sele ct the language you ne ed. Setting the Date and T ime 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System se ttings > Date & time .

Keep pres sing the low er end of the Volume Key when no media ap plication i s active . When the icon appears in the status bar, the phone i s set to silen t mode w ith vibration.
25 3. Select a w allpaper source from Gallery , Live Wallpaper s , or Wallpaper s and choo se the image or animati on you w ant to use as the w allpaper. Some croppin g may be needed for Gallery i mages. 4. For Gallery images, ad just the ar ea you w ant to use and touch OK ; for Live Wallp apers and Wallpapers, touch Set wallpape r .
26 3. Touch an option you want. None , Long press , Face Unlock , Pattern , PIN or Pass word . Touch None to disabl e the screen lock. Touch Lon g press to enable screen lock and allow unlock w ith a ‘tou ch and hold’ gestur e. You c an u nlock the screen by touching and holding on the display .
27 WARNING! Encryption is irreversibl e. The only w ay to revert to an unencryp ted phone is to perfor m a factory data rese t, which erases all you r data. Encryption provides add itional pro tection in cas e your phone is stolen, and may be requi red or reco mmended in some organization s.
28 4. Enter your l ock screen PIN or pa ssword and touch Next . 5. Touch Enc rypt phon e again. The encryp tion proce ss starts and displays its progress. Encryption can take an hour or m ore, during w hich time your phone may restart se veral times. When en cryption is co mpleted, you're pr ompted to enter your PIN or pa ssword.
29 Knowing the Basic s Monitoring the Phone S tatus The status bar at the top of the home screen provide s phone an d service sta tus icons o n the righ t side.
30 Managing Notificati ons Notification Icons The sta tus bar at the top of the home s creen provide s notifi cation icons on the left. Below are some of the icon s you may see.
31 Open/Close the Notificati on Panel Notification s report the arri val of new mes sages, calenda r events , and alarms, as w ell as ongoing e vents, such a s w hen you'v e configured your phone as a Wi -Fi ho tspot. You can open the notification panel to view the detail s of notifica tions.
32 Managing Shortcut s and Widget s Add Shortcuts and Widgets 1. Touch the Home Key > . 2. Touch and h old an ap p icon and dra g it to the home screen. You can als o touch Widge ts or Widgets > Sh ortcuts and then drag an item to t he home scr een.
33 Organizing W ith Folders You can cre ate folder s on the home screen and add several shortcuts in a folder. Create a Folder 1. Touch and h old the sh ortcut on the home screen you w ant to add into a folder until appea rs. 2. Drag the shortcut to and release it.
34 Rearranging the Fav orites T ra y The home screen includes a custo mi zable favor ites tray at the bottom visible from all home scree ns. Y ou can drag shortcuts and folde rs in or out of t he favorites tray for instant access from any home screen.
35 Change Input M ethods If you have several input methods installed, th e icon appears on the status bar whenever y ou use the on screen keyboard to enter text. 1. Open the no tification panel and tou ch Choose inp ut method . 2. Select an in put method y ou need.
36 possible opt ions. Touch to use upper case. Double-ta p to lock uppercase . This key als o change s to indicate the current case you are using: for low ercase, for upper case, and when locked in uppercase . Touch to delete the tex t before the cursor.
37 To switch the keyb oard layou t: 1. Touch the Home Key > > Settings > Language & input > (TouchPal Keyb oard) > K eyboard layout . 2. Check Swip e layout . 3. In the Touc hPal keyboar d screen, touch and clear the Curve box, and then tou ch Close .
38 Touch to enter digit s, symbols, e moticons and other pre -defined texts. Tou ch to find more. Touch / to lock or unlo ck the inpu tting. Touch t o go ba ck to enter letters. Touch t o start a n ew line. Touch or ho ld to delete text be fore the cur sor.
39 CooTek T + Touch to enter the left letter on the key; Double-tap or flick right to enter the rig ht letter/sy mbol on th e key. If w ord prediction is enabled ( ), just tou ch the keys and choos e the right w ord. To enable and use Tou chPal Cu rve: 1.
40 Tips for usi ng TouchPal Curve: Touch w hen you w ant to. If you w ant to ente r a single letter, go ahead an d touch. Lift your fin ger at the en d of the w ord.
41 Cut or copy: Select the text you w a nt to man ipulate. T hen touch the C ut or Copy button to cut or copy the text to the clipboar d. Replace te xt with the clipboard t ext: Selec t the text you want to repla ce.
42 Switch Betw een Recently Op ened A pps 1. Touch and h old the Men u Key . A list of the names and thum bnails of app s you’ve used recently ope ns. If you’ ve been usi ng more app s recent ly than can fit on the screen , you can s croll the lis t up and dow n.
43 Connecting to Netw orks and Devices Connecting to Mobile Networks Select Network Op erator 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Mobile netwo r ks > Net work operators . 2. To uch Search net works to search for all a vailable netw orks.
44 To enable always-on da ta access: 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Mobile netwo r ks . 2. Check Alw ays-on mob ile data to all ow applicati ons to update da ta automa tically. IMPORTAN T: When you enable thi s option, more data tra f fic w ill be generate d for automa tic update s of appli cations data .
45 2. Touch the Menu Key > New APN . 3. Touch each item to e nter the infor mation you get from your service pro vider. 4. Touch Save to complete . TIP: To set the APN to default settin gs, touch the Menu Key > Reset to def ault .
46 Add a Wi-Fi Netw ork You can add a Wi-Fi netw ork if the netw ork does no t broadcast its name (SS ID), or to add a Wi - Fi netw ork when you are out of range. To connec t to a secured netw ork, you first ne ed to get the security det ails from the netw ork 's administra tor.
47 Adjust A dv anced Wi-Fi S ettings 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Wi - Fi . 2. Touch the Menu Key > Advanced to adjust the follow ing settings. Network no tification : Get notifi cations in the status bar when Wi-Fi i s on and a n open ne twork is avai lable.
48 for other de vices enabled w ith Wi-Fi direct conne ctions. 4. Touch a de vice name under PEER DEVICES to connect w ith it . The other d evice w ill receive a W i-Fi Direct co nnection prompt and need to a ccept the req uest for connection. Both devices may need to ent er a com mon PIN.
49 Connecting to Blueto oth Devices Bluetooth ® is a short-rang e w ireless communi cation te chnology. Phones or other device s with Blue tooth capab ilities can exchange information w irelessly within a di stance o f about 10 meters. Th e Bluetooth devices m ust be paired before the communica tion is perfor med.

53 Sharing Y our Mobile Dat a Connection You can share yo ur pho ne’s da t a capabilitie s throug h teth ering o r by acti vating the mo bile ho tspot fe ature to create a po rtable W i-Fi hotspot. Share Y our Mo bile Dat a Connection v ia USB You can ac cess the In ternet on your computer via the USB tethering fea ture of your phone.
54 2. Configure your compu ter to obtain its netw ork connection via Bluetooth . For more info rmation , please see your co mputer's documen tation. 3. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > More . 4. Check Blueto oth tethe ring .
55 NOTE: To stop sharing y our data connection, slide the sw itch to turn Portab le hotspo t off. Rename or Secu re Y our Wi-Fi Hotspot You can cha nge the na me of your p hone's Wi-Fi netw ork name (SSID) and secure your portable W i-Fi hotspo t.

58 Phone Calls You can place call s fro m the Phone app, the People app, or o ther apps or w idget s tha t display conta ct infor mation. Wherever you see a phone number, you can u sually touch i t to dial. Placing and Ending C alls Place a Call by Di aling 1.
59 Answering or Rej ecting Calls When you r eceive a phone call, the Incomi ng Call scree n opens, displaying the Caller ID or the inform ation abou t the caller tha t you've enter ed in People . You can answ er or reject the call, or reject it w it h a text m essage.
60 Place a Call From th e Call Log 1. Open the ca ll log. 2. Touch a nu mber for mo re informa tion about the call, or touch beside it to call back. Add a Call Log Number as a Contact 1. Open the ca ll log. 2. Touch a nu mber to view more call informati on.
61 Delete the Call Log 1. Open the ca ll log. 2. Touch the number you'd like to del ete. 3. Touch the Menu Key > Remove f rom call log. NOTE: You can also to uch the Men u Key > Cle ar call log in the call log s cr een to delete all call histor y.
62 Checking V oicemail If you have set the ph one to di vert certai n calls to the voicemail , callers can leave voice mail mes sages w hen they can not reach you. Here’ s how to check th e messages they lef t. 1. Touch the Home Key > . 2. Touch and h old in the dialer.

65 Change PIN2 : Change the PIN2 co de for FD N access . FDN list: Manage the FD N list. NOTE: The P IN2 code i s provided b y your carrier . Entering an incorrect P IN2 code more times tha n allow ed can get your micro-SIM card locked. Contact the service provider for assistance.

67 Bar Certain Calls Call barrin g feature allow s you to forbid c ertain t ypes of calls from your phone . 1. Touch the Home Key > > Menu Key > Settings > C all Barring Sett ings . 2. Set the re striction of specific type s of calls fro m your ph one.
68 Internet Call Setting s To add an Internet ca lling accou nt: 1. To uch the Home Key > > Menu K ey > Settings > Accounts . 2. Touch Add account . 3. Follow the instruction s from your Internet calling ser vice provider to configure the settings for your ac count.
69 People You can add contacts on your phone and sync hronize the m w ith the conta cts in your Goo gle Accoun t or other accou nts that support con tact syncing . T o see your contact s , tou ch the Home Key > . From there, you ca n touch the tabs on the t op of the screen to quickly sw itch to the cont act group s or favorite conta cts .
70 4. Enter the contact na me, phone nu mbers, email ad dresses, and other information. 5. Touch DONE to save the conta ct. Setting Up Y o ur Own Pr ofile You can cre ate your ow n name card in your phone. 1. T ou ch t he Ho me K ey > a nd to uc h th e a ll c on ta ct s ta b .
71 3. Select an a ccount in w hich to save the contac ts. 4. Touch to se lect the cont acts you n eed and then touch . Import Contact s From the SD Card Y ou can copy cont acts files in vCard format (.vcf) t o the phone ’ s internal SD card and impo rt them to your cont act s list.
72 2. Touch the Menu Key > Import/Exp ort > Expo rt to SD card . 3. The phone will prompt you with the name of the vCard file. Touch OK to create the file on the SD card. Share Contact s 1. T ou ch t he Ho me K ey > a nd to uc h th e a ll c on ta ct s ta b .
73 Remove a Contact From Favorites 1. Touch th e Home Key > and tou ch the favorite co ntacts tab . 2. Touch a fa vorite contac t and then touch nex t to the contact na me. Work ing With Gro up s V iew Y our Contact Group s 1. Touch the Home Key > and touch the con t act group s tab .
74 Delete a Group 1. Touch the Home Key > and touch the con t act group s tab . 2. Touch a gro up and then touch the M enu Key > Disband group . 3. Touch OK to disband the group. The contacts in th e group will not be deleted. Edit a Group 1. Touch the Home Key > and touch the con t act group s tab .
75 Editing Cont acts Edit Contact Det ail s 1. Touch the Home Key > . 2. Touch a contact you nee d to edit and then touch the Menu Key > Edit . 3. Edit the con tact and tou ch DONE . Set a Ringtone for a Co ntac t Assign a special ringtone to a con tact, so you know who is calling w hen you hear the ringtone .
76 T o delete several cont acts, y ou can : 1. Touch the Menu Key > Select item( s) in the all contacts screen. 2. Touch to se lect the cont acts you w a nt to rem ove and then touch .
77 Accounts Adding or Remov ing Account s Y ou can add multiple Go ogle Ac counts and Mi crosof t Exchan ge ActiveSyn c ac counts. Y ou may also add other ki nds o f a ccount s , depending on the app s instal led on your phone . Add an A ccount 1. From the home screen, to uch the M enu Key > System settings > Add account .

79 Change an A ccount’s Sync Settings 1. From the home screen , touch the Menu Key > System settings . 2. T ouch the type and then the account . The Sync screen appears, show ing a list of in formation the accou nt can sync. 3. When auto- sync is turned on, che ck or unche ck items as you need.
80 Email Touch in the home screen and sele ct Email . Use it to read and send e mails from ser vices other than Gm ail. Set Up the First Email Account 1. When you o pen Email for the first time, enter your email address and passw ord. 2. Touch Next to let the ph one retrieve the netw ork paramete rs automatically .
81 Responding to an Em ail Y ou can reply to or forw ard a message that you re ceive. Y ou can also del ete messag es and ma nage them in other w ays. Re ply to or Forw ard an Email 1. Open the e mail you w ant to reply to or forw ard from Inbox . 2. Do the follow ing as you need: T o… do… Reply to the sender , touch at the bottom.
82 Delete an Email Y ou can delete an e mail from it s fold er . Y ou can also dele te a batch of em ails. While readi ng a messag e, touch > OK . While in a message lis t (for inst ance, the i nbox), to uch the checkboxe s in front of the messages and then tou ch > OK .
83 Adding Signature to Y our Emails Y ou can set a few lines of plain text as signature for every outgoing e mail message from an account, such as your name and conta ct infor mation. 1. Open the Ema il app. 2. T ouch the Menu Key > Settings and select the accou nt yo u want to add signature to.
84 Edit an Email A ccount Y ou can change a nu m ber of set tings for a n account , including how of ten you check for e m ail, how you’re notified of new mails, and det ails about th e servers the account u ses to sen d and receive mai ls. 1. Open Emai l to get the Inbox scree n.
85 G mail TM After you sign in to y our Google Account on the phone , you can send and ret rieve Gmail message s with the Gma il app . NOTE: Thi s feature may no t be available in certai n regions or with certa in ser vice providers. Opening Y our Gmail Inbox Touch in the home screen and sele ct Gmail .
86 Writin g and Sending a M essage 1. Open your Gmail Inbox and sw it ch to the account you w ant to use for sending the m essage. 2. T ouch . 3. Enter a con tact na m e or email address in the ‘T o’ field. Separate each recip ient w ith a comma .
87 Replying to or Forwardin g a Message 1. Open the G mail mes sage you w ant to reply to or forw ard t o another per son. 2. Do the follow ing as you need: T o… d o… Reply to the sender , touch in the message he ader . Re ply to th e sende r and all rec ipi ent s o f the or igi nal messa ge, touch in the message header > Reply all .
88 Searching for M essages Y ou can search for messages using w ords that appea r in addresse s, subjects , labels, or content s . NOTE : If you search w hile the phon e doesn’ t have an active Internet conne ction, only messages synchroniz ed onto yo ur phone can be searched.
89 2. T ouch > Change labe ls . 3. Check or uncheck label s in the new screen a nd touch OK . T o add stars to messages: 1. Open the Gm ail app and touch in th e message list the sender i mages in fron t of the messa ges you w ant to star . 2. T ouch > Add sta r .
90 Messag ing Y ou can use M essag ing to exc hange text me ssages (SM S) and multimedia message s (MMS). Opening the Mes s ag ing Screen Touch in the home screen and sele ct Messaging . The Messaging screen opens, w here you can create a new message, sear c h for m essages, or open an ongo ing message thread.
91 Sending a Multimedia Message 1. On the Mes saging screen , touch at the bottom. 2. Enter the re cipient and the text of the mes sage, as you do when sending a text message. Y ou can also include email addresse s as recipien ts. 3. T ouch the Menu K ey > Add subject to a dd a mes sage subject.
92 Forwarding a Me ssage 1. On the Mes saging screen , touch the thread tha t has the message you w ant to forw ard. 2. T ouch and hold the messa ge. 3. T ouch Forward in the menu that ope ns. 4. Enter a recipient for the mes sage an d edit the content i f you want.
93 2. If there are more thread s you w ant to delete, touch the m one by one. 3. T ouch at the bot tom. 4. T ouch Delete . Changing Mes sag ing Settings T ouch the Menu Key > Sett ings in t he Messaging screen to change Messag ing setting s .
94 Calendar Calendar on the phone works w it h the w eb-based Google Calendar service for cre ating and managing e vents , meeting s, and appoint ments . It also w orks with the Mi crosof t Exchange ActiveSync c alenda r once you s ign i nto your Exchang e account on the phone .
95 TIPS : In Month vi ew , swipe verti cally to see ear lier months and later month s. In Wee k or Day view , swipe horizont ally to see earlier weeks/days and later w eek s/days . When you a re view ing earlier or later days, w eeks, or months, tou ch T oday at t he top to q uickly sw it ch to today .
96 Editing, Sharing or Dele ting an Event 1. Find the e vent you w ant to edit or delete. 2. Open it s detail s screen ( se e Viewi ng Y our Calendars and Events - View Event Det ails in thi s chapter) . 3. Do one of the follow ing as you n eed. T o edit the event, touch Ed i t at the bottom.
97 Google+ Google+ is a social ne tworking ser vice offered by Google. The Google+ appl ication on yo ur phone e nables you to manage your data, chat w ith online co ntacts, or ganiz e them in differen t circles, and share your selected information . Touch in the home scr een and sele ct Google+ .
98 Nearby show s posts shared w ith you by users near your current loca tion. All , Acqua intances , Fami ly , Fo llowing , and F riends show updat es from peop le you’ ve added to your circles. What’s hot show s popular posts on Google +.
99 Checking and Ma naging Y our Profile 1. Touch > Profile in the Google + app. 2. Touch the ABOUT tab t o see your p rofile an d edit them . Other Features Com munities : A community i s where people gather for the sharing and discussion of a com mon topic.
