14 Knowing the Keys Key Function Power Key • Press and hold to t urn on or off Fli ght mode, enable silent mode, vibration mode or sound, or to power off. • Press to switch your phone to Sleep mode. • Press to wake up your phone. Home Key • Touch to return to the Home Scr een from any application or screen.
15 Key Function Menu Key • Touch to get the options f or the current screen. • T ouch and hold to see recently used applications . Back Key Touch to go to the previous screen.
16 2. Hold the SIM car d with the cut corner oriented as shown and slip it into the card holder. 3. Hold your microSD card with the met al contacts f acing down.
17 and slide it in. NOTE: Some applications may r equire a microSD card t o work normally or may store certai n data on it. Th erefore, it i s recommended that you kee p a microSD card installed and not remove or replace it randomly.
18 5. Press the cover gentl y back into place un til you hear a cli ck. Chargi ng t he Bat tery Your phone’s battery should have enough power for the phone t o turn on, find a signal, a nd make a few ca lls. You should fully charge the battery as soon as possible.
19 2. Connect the charger to a st andard AC wall out let. If the phone is on, you’ll see a charging icon , such as or , appear on the status bar. 3. Disconnect the c harger when the bat tery is full y charged.
20 • To turn it off, pr ess and hold the Power Key to open the options menu. Touch Power off and then t ouch OK . Set ting Up for the First Tim e When you f irst po wer on you r phone a fter you purchase it or reset it to factory settings (see Settings – Personal – Backup and Reset ), you need to do some settings before using it.
21 To lock the screen and keys: To quickly turn the screen off and lock the keys, press the Power Key . NOTE: To save battery power, the phone automatically turns of f the screen after a ce rtain period of time w hen you leave it idle . You wi ll still be able to receive me ssages and calls w hile the phone screen is off.
22 • Swipe or Slide To swipe or slide means to qui ckly drag your finger verti cally or horizontally across t he screen. • Drag To drag, pres s and hold your finger with some pressure before you start to move your finger. While dragging, do not release your finger until you have reach ed the target position.
23 Extended Home Screens Your home screen extends beyond the initial screen, providing more spac e to a dd icons, widgets , and more. Simpl y swipe left o r right on the screen to see the extended H ome Screens.
24 Personalizing Changin g th e Syst em Language 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Language & input > Language . 2. Select the language you need. Setti ng the Date and Time 1. To uch t he Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > Date & time .

26 • Press and hol d the Power Key and then touch to enable silent mode, touch to enable silent mode with vibration, or touch to d isable silent mode. • Keep pressing the Volume Down Key when no media application is active. When the ico n appears on th e status bar, the phone is set to silent mode with vibrat ion.
27 3. Touch OK . Protect ing Your Phone Wi th Scr een Locks You can protect your phone by creating a screen lock. When enabled, you need to tou ch and hold certain icon , look at the front camera, draw a pattern or enter a numeric PIN or a password to unlock the phone’s screen and keys.
28 Protect ing Your Phone With Encrypti on You can encrypt all the data on your phon e: Google Accounts, application data, music and other media, downloaded information, and so on. If you do, you must enter a numeric PIN or a password each time you power on your phone.

30 Knowing the Basics Monit oring the Pho ne Stat us The status bar at the top of the home screen provi des phone and service status icons on the right side.
31 Managi ng Not ifi cation s Notifi cation Icons The status bar at the top of the home sc reen provides notifi cation icons on the left. Belo w are some of the ic ons you may see .
32 Open/Cl ose th e Noti ficat ion P anel Notifications report the arr ival of new message s, calendar events, and alarms, as well as ongoing events, such as when you've conf igured your phone as a Wi - Fi hotspot. Y ou can open the notification pane l to view the details of n otifications.
33 Talk, have notification settings that you can adjust . NOTE : If y ou turn off notificati ons for an app, you may miss its important alerts and updates. The notific ations of some app s cannot be turned off. TIP: In the notification panel, tou ch at the top of the notifications list to get to the Settings menu quickly.

37 Android Keyboar d The Android Keyboard provides a layout similar to a desktop computer keyboard. T urn the phone sideways and the keyboard will change fr om portrait to landscape. The lands cape keyboard is not supported in a ll applications. • Touch the alphabetic keys to enter letters.

40 • Touch to access the quick settings of TouchPal keyboard. • Touch to s et the TouchPal ke yboard . • Touch to open text editing options. You ca n select, cut, copy, paste, and delete text, or move the cursor. • Touch to use voice input. • Touch to hide the onscreen keyboard.
41 Touch t o enter the left letter on the key; Double - tap or flick rig ht to enter the right lett er/symbol on the key. If word prediction is enabled ( ), just touch the key s and choose the right word. To enable and use TouchPal Curve: 1. In the T ouchPal keyboard screen, touch and check Curve , and then touch Close .
42 Tips for using TouchPal Curve: • Touch when you want to. If you want to enter a single letter, go ahead and touch. • Lift your finger at the end of the word. A space i s added automatically when you begin to t race the next word. Google Voice Typing Google Voi ce typi ng uses the Google voi ce recog nition service t o convert speech to text.
43 TIP : Say "comma," "period," "question mark," " exclamation mark," or "exclamati on point" to enter punctuati on. Input S ettings Choose input sett ings by touching the Menu Key > System se ttings > Language & input fro m the Home Scre en.

45 Connecting to Networ ks and Devices Connect ing to Mob ile Networks Select Ne twork Operat or 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > System settings > More > Mobil e networ ks > Network operators . 2. Touch S elect manually to search for all available networks.

48 5. Touch Save . Forget a Wi - Fi Network You can make your phone f orget about the det ails of a Wi - Fi network t hat you added - for exam ple, if y ou don’t want the phone to connect to it autom atically or if it is a networ k that you no longer use.
49 Using W i - Fi Dire ct Wi - Fi Direct allows Wi - Fi devic es to connect to each other without the need for wireless access points (ho tspots). NOTE: Activating th is feature will disconnect your curren t Wi - Fi network connection. Connect to Anoth er Devic e via W i - Fi Direct 1.
50 3. Touch a device the phone has connected with or wait for it to search for new devices and touch one of them. Receive Data via Wi - Fi When an at tempt to transfe r data via Wi - Fi is received, you can see a notification in the status bar. Touch Accep t to start receiving the data.

53 Connect Your Phone to a Computer vi a USB 1. Connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable. 2. Open the No tification panel and touch (Connected as...). 3. Choose one of the following opti ons: ! USB storage: Transfer fi les between your device and the computer.
54 Remove the microSD Card Fro m Your Ph one If you need to remo ve the microSD ca rd while t he phone is on, you should unmount it first. 1. Touch the Home Key > Menu Key > Sys tem s ettings > Storage . 2. Scroll down and t ouch Unmou n t SD card > OK .

59 Phone Calls You can place calls from the Phone app, the People app, or other apps or widgets that displ ay contact information. Wherever you see a phone number, you can usually touch it to dial. Placing and Ending Cal ls Place a Call by Dialin g 1.

85 Replyi ng to or Forwarding a Message 1. Open th e Gmail message you want t o reply to or forward to another person. 2. D o the following as you need . " To reply to the sender , touch . " To reply to the sender and all recipients of the original message, to uch > Reply all .
86 NOTE : If you search while th e phone doesn’t h ave an active Internet connection , only messages sy nchr onized onto your phone can be searched. 1. Open the Gmail app and t ouch . 2. Enter the words to search for and touch the se arch key on the screen keyboard .

The Messag ing screen opens where you can create a new message , search for messages, or open an ongoing message thread.

93 Calendar Calendar on the ph one works with t he web - based Google Calendar service for creating and managing events, meetings, and appointments. It also works with the Microso ft Exchange ActiveSync calendar once you sign into your Exchange account on the phone.
