Chapter 2 : Adv anced S etup Options 15 2 Advanced Setup Options In addition to its basic setup options, the X4 unit includes options for specialized, or advanced, setti ngs. If you are like most users, you will not need these options. The X4 is designed so that the basic setup settings are suffici ent for most users.

You can define additional PVCs for service s such as telephony or to connect to a managed Virtual Private Network (VPN ) if available in your area.

22 X4 ADS L Modem User ’s Manu al 2.4 NA T Firewall The X4’s built-in NAT (Network Address Trans lation) firewall provides a good, but not perfect, level of protection from unauthorized access. NAT keeps private a network’s internal IP addresses and p resents to the Inter net a set of pu blic IP addresses.

32 X4 ADS L Modem User ’s Manu al 3 System Administration Using a computer attached to the X4 and a Web-based browser such as Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer, you can administer your X4 unit and monitor your ADSL connection.
Chapter 3 : Sy stem Adm inistra tion 33 3.2 Monitoring ADSL Status If you want to check the status of your ADSL connection, click the ADSL Status icon at t he top of the X4’s main interface page. From here, you can verify whether your ADSL connection is active or not ( ADSL Line State Sta tus will read SHOWTIM E ).

Clicking any of these buttons displays pertinent information. Not e: You can’t make changes to the ATM or TCP Status pages; you can make changes to the PPP and WAN Status pages.

36 X4 ADS L Modem User ’s Manu al 3.4 Re setting the Unit to Its Default Settings If you have changed the system settings on your X4 unit and want to restore them to the factory default settings, you can do so in one of two ways: You can perform a software reset or a “ha rd” reset.

An important point after buying a device Zoom X4 (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
If you have not bought Zoom X4 yet, this is a good time to familiarize yourself with the basic data on the product. First of all view first pages of the manual, you can find above. You should find there the most important technical data Zoom X4 - thus you can check whether the hardware meets your expectations. When delving into next pages of the user manual, Zoom X4 you will learn all the available features of the product, as well as information on its operation. The information that you get Zoom X4 will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
If you already are a holder of Zoom X4, but have not read the manual yet, you should do it for the reasons described above. You will learn then if you properly used the available features, and whether you have not made any mistakes, which can shorten the lifetime Zoom X4.
However, one of the most important roles played by the user manual is to help in solving problems with Zoom X4. Almost always you will find there Troubleshooting, which are the most frequently occurring failures and malfunctions of the device Zoom X4 along with tips on how to solve them.
