8 SECTION 6: UNPACKING Remo ving Unit from Carton • Remo ve staples , break gl ue on top flaps, or c ut tape at car ton end an d peel along top flap to op en carton . Remove lo ose p arts if i ncluded with un it (i.e., o perator 's manu al, etc.
9 Assembling Handle Figure 5 • Raise t he lowe r handle in the directi on sho wn in Fi gure 5 (ste p 1) t ill it snap s into place. • Raise t he uppe r hand le in the direct ion sho wn in Fi gure 5 ( step 2). Tighten the hand knobs wh ich are already on the han dle.
10 • Attach the othe r end of th e struts as foll ows. Plac e one cup ped was her ove r each hex bolt alig ning t he crowned side of the wa sher aga inst t he head of th e bolt . Insert h ex bol ts up thr ough th e middle holes in deck besi de the e ngine and then thr ough the s truts.
11 • Inst all the oth er whe el asse mbly and the othe r end of th e axle s haft in the sa me way. • Remo ve the blo cks fr om the rea r of th e mower a nd place the rear height adjusters in the same relative position as the two front height adj usters.

13 Drive Clutch Control Squeez e the dri ve clutc h con trol aga inst th e upper h andle of the mo wer to eng age the drive m echan ism and move the wh eels. Release t he driv e clutch control to slow do wn the m ower when negotia ting a n obsta cle, making a turn, or stopping the mowe r.
14 Before Star ting • Attach s park plug wire t o spark pl ug. If y our unit is equip ped with a rub ber boot o ver the end of th e spark plug wir e, make c ertain t he meta l cap on t he end o f the spar k plug wi re (insi de the rubber boot) is fastened secu rely ov er th e metal tip on the spar k plug.
15 • Squeez e the d rive clutc h co ntrol aga inst t he uppe r handle of the m ower to eng age the drive m echan ism and move the whee ls. Re lease the drive c lutch contr ol to sl ow down the mowe r when neg otiating a n obstacle, m aking a tu rn, or s topping th e mower.
16 • Turn the lower handl e around s o the notc h on th e bottom of the lowe r hand le is fa cing f orward a s shown in Figu re 14B. R easse mble, placing the botto m hole s in the h andle over the weld pi ns in the handl e mounting b racket . • Reasse mble t he uppe r handle to the l ower hand le.
17 • To adj ust the dr ive clutc h, rotate the adj ustment wh eel wit h your fi ngers. You sh ould rot ate the w heel clockw ise to tighte n the cabl e and cou nter-cl ockwis e to lo osen the c able.

19 To Remove B lade • Remo ve the bolt and th e bell washer sec uring th e blad e assemb ly to the cran kshaft. S ee Figur e 18A. • Remo ve the two p airs of hex bo lt and loc k nut holding t he blad e to the bl ade ada pter and th e pull ey assembl y.
20 Replacing Rear Flap The rea r fla p is attach ed to t he back of the mower deck, an d is des igned to mi nimize t he poss ibility of obj ects being th rown from the rear of the mower towards the ope rator . If the rear fla p is dam aged, repl ace as follows.
21 • Lift and s tabiliz e the fron t of the d eck. • Loosen th e cent er hex bo lt and lower the blade and eng ine pul ley until there i s ade quate cle arance t o move the belt past th e belt kee per. • Remove th e belt f rom the en gine p ulley an d arou nd the bla de.
