1 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR U.K. MODEL For U.K. customers If the socket outlets in the home are not suitable for the plug supplied with this appliance, it should be cut off and an appropriate 3 pin plug fitted. For details, refer to the instructions described below.
2 ( : subwoofer, : front speaker) One subwoofer will have a good effect on your audio system, however, the use of two subwoofers is recommended to obtain more effect. If using one subwoofer, it is recommended to place it on the outside of either the right or the left front speaker.
3 Choose one of the following two connec ting methods that is more suitable for your audio system. ■ Choose (pages 3-4) when you w ant to enjoy 5.1 surround system ■ Choose (pages 5-6) when you want to output the low frequency signals Unplug the subwoofer and othe r audio/video components before making connect ions.

5 Select this method if your amplifier ha s no line output (pin jack) terminal. If your amplifie r has two sets of f ront speaker output t erminals and both te rminals can output sound signals simultaneously.
6 If your amplifier has only one set of front speaker output terminals. Connect the speaker output term inals of the amplifier to the INPUT 1 te rminals of the subwoofer, and connect the OUTPUT terminals of the subwoof er to the front speakers.
7 For connection, keep the sp eaker cables as short as possible. Do not bundle or roll up the excess part of the cables. If the connections are fa ulty, no sound will be heard from the subwoofer or the speakers, or both of them. Make sure that the + and – polarity markings of the speaker cables are obser ved and set correct ly.
8 1 POWER switch Press this switch to the ON position to turn on the power to the subwoofer. When the power of the subwoofer is on, the power indicator ( 4 ) on the rear panel light up in green. Press this switch again to set it to OFF position to turn off the power of the subwoofer.
9 Before using the subwoofer, adjust the subwoofer to obtai n the optimum volume and tone balance between the subwoofer and the front speakers by following the procedures described below. 1 Set the VOLUME control to minimum (0). 2 Turn on the power of all the other components.

11 In 1988, Yamaha brought to the marketplace speaker systems utilizing YST (Yamah a Active Servo Technology) to give powerful, high qua lity bass reproduction. This technique uses a di rect connection betw een the amplifier and speaker, allowing accu rate signal transmission and precise speaker control.
12 Refer to the chart below when this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instructions given below do not help, disconnect the power cor d and contact your authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center.
