Make sure that the rack is large enough to allow adequate ventilation space around this unit (see page 13) and that it is strong enough to support the weight of both this unit and your TV .

25 En Connections PREP ARA TION English Connect the monaural input jack o n your s ubwo ofer to the SUBWOOFER jack on this unit. This connection alone does not output sound from the c onnected subwoofer .
26 En Connec tions Once all other connections are complete, plug the A C power su ppl y cable into the AC w all outlet. Connecting the AC pow er supply cable T o the A C wall outlet.
GETTING STARTED 27 En SETUP English 1 Press and hold the mark on the battery cover and then open the cover . 2 Insert the two supplied batteries (AA, R6, UM-3) into the ba ttery compartment. Make sure you insert the batteries according to the polarity markings (+/–).
Getting started 28 En 1 Press ST ANDBY/ON to turn on the po wer of this unit. The volume le vel appears in the front panel display , and the current input sour ce and beam mode are displayed. 2 Press ST ANDBY/ON again to set this unit to the standb y mod e.
USING SET MENU 29 En SETUP English This section describes how to display the OSD ( on-screen display) of this unit on your TV screen and to set the parameters for your listening room. Once this is complete, you can enjoy real surround sound while watching TV in the comfort of your o wn home.

CHANGING OSD LANGUAGE 31 En SETUP English This feature allo ws you to select the language of your choice that appears in SET ME NU of this unit. 1 Set the operat ion mode selector to YSP. 2 Press MENU. The SET MENU screen appears on your TV . y • The control buttons used for SET MENU are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
AUTO SETUP (INTELLIBEAM) 32 En This unit creates a sound f ield b y re flecting sound beams on the walls of your listening room and by broadening the cohesion of all the channels. Just as yo u would arrange the speaker position of other audio systems, you need to set the beam angle to enjoy the best possible sound from this unit.
AUTO SETUP (I ntelliBeam) 33 En SETUP English The supplied IntelliBeam micro phone collects and analyzes the sound that th is unit produces in your actual listen ing en vironment.

AUTO SETUP (IntelliBea m) 36 En 5 Press / to select BEAM+SOUND OPTIMZ, BEAM OPTIMZ only, or SOUND OPTIMZ only and then press E NTER. The following screen ap pears on your TV .
AUTO SETUP (I ntelliBeam) 37 En SETUP English 8 Check that the f ollo wing screen is displa yed on y our TV . The results of the A UTO SETUP procedure are displayed on your TV . y • If “ENVIRONMENT CHECK [F AILED] ” is displayed, we rec ommend runn ing the A UTO SETUP procedure again.

USING THE SYSTEM MEMORY 39 En SETUP English Y ou can save the current settings adju sted in SET MENU in the system memory of this unit. It is handy to sa ve certain settings according to the v arying conditions of your listening en vironment.
Using the system memory 40 En 5 Press / to select MEMOR Y1, MEMOR Y2, or MEMOR Y3 and press ENTER. The following screen ap pears on your TV . 6 Press ENTER again. The new parameters are sa ved as MEMOR Y1, MEMOR Y2, or MEMOR Y3. Once the parameters are saved, the display returns to the SE T MENU screen.
Using the system memory 41 En SETUP English 4 Press / to select LO AD and press ENTER. The follo wing screen appears on your TV . 5 Press / to select MEMOR Y1, MEMOR Y2, or MEMOR Y3 and press ENTER. The follo wing screen appears on your TV . 6 Press ENTER again.
PLAYBACK 42 En Y ou can play back sound from the components connected to this unit simply b y pres sing INPUT on the front panel repeatedly or pressing one of the input selector buttons (STB, VCR, D VD, A UX, or TV) on the remote control.
43 En Playback BA S I C OPERA TION English Press VCR to play back a VCR. Press A UX to play back a componen t connected to the A UX jac k on the r ear panel of this unit. Once an input source is se lected (see page 42), you can play back the selected input source.
44 En Playback Press V OLUME +/– to increase or decrease the volume level. The numeric value of the volume lev el appears in the front panel display . Control range: MIN (minimum), 01 to 99, MAX (maximum) • The volume lev el of all inpu t sources (including multi-channel as well as stereo sources) changes at the same time.
ENJOYING SURROUND SOUND 45 En BA S I C OPERA TION English Y ou can enjoy multi-channel sur round sound b y changing the be am mode using the beam m ode b uttons on the remote control. Select 5 Bea m, Stereo plus 3 Beam, 3 Beam, or My Su rroun d for multi-channel playback.
46 En Enjoying surround sound Outputs normal sound from the front left and r ight channels and sound beams from the center and surround left and right channels.

48 En Enjoying surround sound This unit can decode 2-cha nnel sources for 5.1-channel playback so that you can enjoy a v ariety of surround sound effects b y switching the sur round mode. y The beam mode must be set to 5 Beam, St ereo plus 3 Beam, or 3 Beam (see page 45).

50 En Enjoying surround sound Y ou can configure the parameters for Dolb y Pro Logic II Music and DTS Neo:6 Music to f ine-tune the surround sound effect. 1 Repeat step s 1 and 2 in “Enjo ying 2-c hannel sour ces in surroun d sound” on page 48 and select PL II Music or Neo:6 Music.
ENJOYING STEREO SOUND 51 En BA S I C OPERA TION English Y ou can enjoy 2-channel stereo playback as the beam modes by pressing STER EO on the remote control. Sounds are output from the front right and left channels . This is ideal for pla ying back hi-fi sour ces, such as CDs, and can be used to replace your TV speakers.
PLAYING BACK SOUND CLEARLY (MY BEAM) 52 En Y ou can improv e listenability in a noisy en vironment by ch anging the beam mode to My Beam, which outputs sound beams directl y tow ard the listening p osition in a single c hannel.
53 En Playing back sound clearly (My Beam) BA S I C OPERA TION English Y ou can adjust the beam a ngle manually while playing back an input source. This f unction is also ideal if the listening position is out of the operation guarantee range of the auto-adjust function.
USING THE VOLUME MODE (NIGHT LISTEN ING ENHANCER /TV VOLUME EQUAL MODE) 54 En The night listening enhanc ers are de signed to impro ve li stenability at l o wer volu mes or at night. USING THE SLEEP TIMER 55 En BA S I C OPERA TION English Use this feature to automa tically set this unit to the standb y mode after a speci fied perio d of time. The sleep timer is useful if you are going to sleep after a certain amount of time while this unit is still playi ng back a source.

86 En Glossary ■ LFE 0.1-c hannel This channel is for the reproduction of lo w bass signals. The frequenc y range for this channel is 20 Hz to 1 20 Hz. This channel is counted as 0. 1 because it only enforces a low-frequenc y range compared to the full-range reproduction by the other 5/6 ch ann els in Dolby Digital or DTS 5.
