With reasonable care , your Y AMAHA elec- tric guitar will age gracefully and provide many y ears of superlative musical service. * When connecting or disconnecting cables , turn off the am- plifier and other equipment or reduce the volume .
3 TUNING MA CHINE TENSION ADJUSTMENT HEIGHT ADJUST ABLE LOCKING NUT The tuning machines hav e spring-loaded mechanisms which automatically take up wear , prev enting backlash. Howe ver , it is possible to adjust the amount of pressure required to turn the machines.
4 SETTING THE STRING A CTION — Bridge — Height adjustment screw Height adjustment screws (for each strings) Height adjustment screw String T uning Height 1st E 1.9 mm 2nd B 2.0 mm 3rd G 2.1 mm 4th D 2.2 mm 5th A 2.3 mm 6th E 2.4 mm String height refers to the space between the strings and frets, and has an affect on pla yability .
5 VIBRA TO SYSTEM Vintage T ype Follo wing is the procedure f or adjusting the vintage vibrato system: T o check intonation, compare the harmonic tone (12th fret) to the fretted tone (12th fret). ● If fretted pitch is higher than harmonic, saddle m ust be mov ed backw ard to lengthen string.
6 VIBRA TO SYSTEM Loc king T ype (par t 1) When changing strings it is necessar y to cut off the ball ends of the strings. Follo wing is the procedure f or changing strings and adjusting the vibrato system: 1) Using the supplied hexagonal wrench, loosen the three he x- agonal screws on the loc k abov e the nut.
7 VIBRA TO SYSTEM Loc king T ype (par t 2) Intonation Adjustment in Vibrato Bridge 1) Loosen the he xagonal screw located in front of each saddle using the supplied hexagonal wrench. (illustration — D) 2) Slide the saddles by hand to adjust the length of each string.
8 BRIDGE/SPRING TENSION ADJUSTMENTS For best results the bridge should alwa ys be adjusted so it is parallel to the top surf ace of the guitar as shown in illustra- tion (below). This position is maintained by opposing tension between the strings and the claw springs.
9 TRUSS R OD ADJUSTMENT PICKUP HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT The curvature of the neck should be slightly conca ve . Clockwise rotation of the nut tightens the rod and corrects f or too much concav e bow . Countercloc kwise rotation of the nut loosens the rod and corrects for too m uch conv e x bend.
