CONNECTIONS 10 En Be sure to turn off this unit and unplug the po wer su pply cable, before you make or chang e connections. • Depending on the component you want to connect, there are various ways to make connections. Possible connections are described below.
11 En CONNECTIONS English ■ Digital connections If you want to use the Dolby Digital, DTS or MPEG function on your A V receiv er , connect HDMI <A> or DIGIT AL (CO AXIAL) <B> or DIGIT AL.
12 En CONNECTIONS ■ HDMI jack <A> HDMI (High-Definition Mu ltimedia Interface) pro vides high quality digital audio and video on a single connection. Connect HDMI jack of this unit to the HD MI input jack of your A V recei ver , and then to that of your TV using a commercially av ailable HDMI cable.
13 En GETTING STARTED English 1 Press the part and slide the battery compartment cov er of f. 2 Insert the two supplied batteries (AAA, R03, UM-4), following the indications (+/–) on the inside of the compartment. 3 Slide the cover back until it snaps into place.
14 En GETTING STARTE D This unit is compati ble with both NTSC and P AL video formats. Select the color system that matches your TV . • Before changing the cur rent TV Standard setting, ensure that your TV supports the selected TV type system.
15 En GETTING STARTED English Y ou can select your own preferred language settings. This unit will automatically switch to your preferred language for you whene ver you load a disc. If the language selected is not av ailable on the disc, the def ault language of the disc will be used instead.
DISC OPERATION 16 En • Unless otherwise specified, all operations described here are carried out using the supplied remote control. • If the inhibition icon ( or “Prohibit” ) appears on the TV screen when you press a button, the function for that button is not av ailable on the current disc or at the current time.
17 En DISC OPERATION English Searc hing bac kward/f orwar d 1 Press SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) . • For slo w search, press P A USE ( 8 ) to pause playback before pressing SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) . 2 While searching, press SLO W / SEARCH ( 22 / 33 ) repeatedly to select the desired speed.
18 En DISC OPERATION Y ou can customize the play back order f or tracks stored in the disc. This unit supports a maximum of 20 programmed tracks. 1 Press ST O P ( 7 ) to stop playback if necessary . 2 Press PRO G . ➜ The program setup menu appears on the TV screen.
19 En DISC OPERATION English Using the Video CD playbac k contr ol (PBC) menu (VCD/SVCD) 1 Press MENU to turn on the PBC function. ➜ The disc menu appears on the TV screen. • Depending on the disc, the disc menu may appear once you load the disc. 2 Use SKIP ( l 22 / 33 l ) or the numeric b uttons (0-9) to select a playback option.
20 En DISC OPERATION ■ T o select a titl e (D VD-Video)/group (D VD-A udio) 1 Press // / repeatedly to highlight 1 , and then enter a title/gro up number using the numeric b uttons (0-9) .
21 En DISC OPERATION English If the disc contains sequences recorded from dif ferent camera angles, you can vie w the picture from a number of dif ferent angles. V ie wing angles av ailable for each disc may vary . Refer to the operating instructions in the DVD menu or on its jacket.
22 En DISC OPERATION Y ou can select a track in a specific group for D VD-Audio discs and a track/fi le in a folder for data disc. Selecting a group (D VD-Audio) 1 Press GROUP . ➜ A group icon appears on the TV screen. 2 Use / or the numeric b uttons (0-9) to select a group numb er .
23 En DISC OPERATION English 1 Press ST OP ( 7 ) to stop playback. 2 Press MUL TI / 2CH . ➜ MUL TI indicator lights up when the multi-channel area is sele cted. Y ou can play MP3, WMA, DivX and JPEG files on a personally recorded CD-R/R W disc or commercial CD.

28 En SETUP MENU Setting the analog output Set the analog output to match the playback capability of this unit. • Select [Analog Output] in [A UD IO] menu. Stereo Select this to change channel output to stereo, which only deliv ers sound from the tw o front speak ers.
29 En SETUP MENU English Setting speaker sizes Y ou can set the sizes for indi vidual speaker s. • Select [Size] in [SPEAKER] menu. Front L/R Set the sizes for front L/R speak ers. Large Select this if the connected speakers are large. Small Select this if the connected speakers are small.

32 En SETUP MENU Selecting the closed caption (U .S.A. and Canada models onl y) Closed captions are data hidden in the video signals of specific discs, and are in visible without the use of a special decoder .
33 En SETUP MENU English Switching the SCART video out (U .K. and Europe models onl y) Select this setting to toggle the v ideo signal output from the A V terminal between CVBS (composite video) and RGB. • Select [Scart V ideo Out] in [VIDEO] menu. CVBS Select this to output composite video signals.
