S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.3 English Step 1: Unpacking 1 Remo ve the machine and all accessories from the packing carton. Make sure that the machine has been packed with the foll owi ng it ems: N OTES : • Th e app earance o f the power cord an d the tel ephone line cord may d iffer d epen ding on your count ry’s specif icati ons.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.4 2 Remo ve the packing tape from the front, back, and sides of the machine. 3 Gently pull the scan lock label until it comes awa y from the machine. Thi s will pull the s canner locking switch into the FORWARD (Unlocked) position automatically .
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.5 English Step 2: Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Open the front door . 2 Remo ve the sta rter toner cartridge from its bag. Gently shak e the cart ridge 5 or 6 ti mes to distr ibute the toner . Thoroughly shaking the ca rtridge will assure maximum copies per cartr idge.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.6 3 Hold the toner cartridge by the handle. Slowly insert the cartridge into th e opening in the mac hine. T abs on the sides of the cartridge and corr esponding grooves within the machine will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely .
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.7 English Step 3: Lo ading Paper The paper tray can hold a maxim um of 250 sheets of 20 lb (75 g/m 2 ) plain paper . T o l oad a stack of Letter-sized pa per: 1 Pull open the paper tray and remov e it from the machine. 2 F an the edges of the paper stack to separate the pages.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.8 4 Pa y attention to the pa p er limi t mark on both inside walls of the tray . P aper ov e rloading may cause pa per jams.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.9 English Changing the Size of the Paper in the Paper Tray T o l oad longer sizes of paper , such as Legal-sized paper , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray .
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.10 F or paper smaller than Letter s ize, ad just the front paper length guide so that it light ly touches the paper stack . 3 Squeeze the width guide, as shown and slide it to the stack of paper until it lightly touches the side of the stack.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.11 English Step 4: Connecting Telephone Line Plug one end of the supplied telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the machine and the othe r end into the wall jack.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.12 Step 5: Connecting a Pri n ter Cable For Local Printing T o p rint from y our compute r in a local en viron ment, you need to connect your machine to a computer with either a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cabl e or a para llel cable.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.13 English Using a Parallel Cabl e N OTE : Conn ecting the machine to th e parallel port of the comput er requir es a certified parall el cable. Y ou need to buy an IEEE-1284 co mpliant parallel cable that is 3 m or less in length.
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINT ER 1.14 For Network Printing (Wor kCentre PE120i only) Y ou can attach your machine to a network using an Ethernet cable (UTP cable with RJ.45 connector). The W orkCentre PE120i has a built-in network interface card. 1 Make sure that both the machi ne and the computer are turned off .
S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 1.15 English Step 6: Turning the M a chine On 1 Plug one end of the supplied thr ee-pronged electrical cord into the AC socket on the machine a nd the other end into a properly grounded AC outlet. 2 Press the power switch to turn the machine on.
