Defining a Printer on PC Client Workstations 45 Copying PPD from PC It is nec essar y to use the CXP6000 Color Server PPD to cr eate PS files to send to the CXP6000 C olor Server. The CXP6000 Color Server PPD should therefor e be copied and distributed to the cust omer .
46 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations Defining a Printer on Macintosh Client W orkstations The CXP6000 Color Server can print to M a cintosh client wo rkstations running Macint osh OS 9 and OSX (10.2). Y ou can also submit jobs using the CXP6000 Color Se r ve r vir tual printers ov er a T CP/IP pr otoc ol.

The following items must be installed and c onfigured on the W indows 2000/XP co mputer befor e you begin: 1.

70 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations Setting up an LPR printer in Mac OS X (10.2) Before y ou define a network printer y ou need to install the CXP6000 Color Ser ver PPD to y our Macintosh. Copying the Spire PPD T o copy the CXP6000 PPD: 1.

72 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations 7. Double-clic k the PPD folder . 8. Copy t he CXP6K3_6.ppd fr om the CXP6000 Color Ser ver to y our Macint osh hard disk. Tip: It is recommended that you copy the PPD by dragging and dr opping fr om the CXP6000 Color Server to the Library>Printers>PPDs folder on your Macintosh.

Fol l ow th e pro ce d u re “ T o se t up a CXP6000 Color Serve r network printer on Macintosh OS X” on page 49, until step 5. 2. In the P r inter List window , sele ct LPR Printers using IP as the connection ty pe.
74 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations 5. In th e Queue Name box, typ e the full name of the CXP6000 Color Ser ve r network printer , for example CXP7_ProcessPrint (case- sensitiv e). 6. From th e Printer Model pop-up me nu, select Other . 7.

78 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations Spire Over TCP/IP The Spire Ov er TCP/IP application enab les Macin tosh clients to subm it jobs using the CXP6000 Color Server vir tual printers ov er a TCP/IP pro toc ol. This connection enables a si g nificantly higher spooling speed.

80 Chapter 1 – Setting Up Client Workstations 4. Select the Utilities folder and click OK . The Utilities folder icon appears on your deskt op; double-click it to open the folder . 5. Double-clic k the Choose Spire Over IP Installer icon. 6. Click the Install button.
LPR Printing with the CXP6 000 Color Server 81 7. Click Quit . The Choose Spire Over IP option is now added to the Apple menu. 8. T o create deskt op printers for printing over IP , fr om the Apple menu, select Choose Spire Over IP .

The desktop printer is creat ed and configured and the following progr ess indicator appears. W hen the pr inter is suc cessfully creat ed, the following message appears.

92 Chapter 2 – Reinstalling Your CXP6000 Color Server Overview This chapt er describes the two methods of r einstalling y our CXP6000 Color Server software by complete ov erw r ite or by system partition.
Overview 93 The follo wing table outlines the CXP6000 C o lor Serve r disk confi g uration: There ar e two methods of reinstalling the system : • Cr eo Softwar e Complete Overwrite Installation : This proc edure r eplaces the entire system disk, o perating system partition, Creo application, and user partition (par titions C: and D:).

Reinstalling the Operating System 95 6. U se the arro ws to select Creo Softwar e Complete Overwrite Installation and press ENTE R . The system starts cop ying the files. After a few m inutes, you are p rompted to remove th e CD -ROM from the CD/DVD- ROM driv e and r eboot.
