ix About the documentation This manual describes how to install the user software for the D ocuColor 40 CP Color Ser ver ™ and set up printing from W indows and Mac OS computers. F or information about setting up network servers and clients to use the DocuColor 40 CP Color Server, see the Configur ation G uide .

xii Introduction Sy stem requir ements T o install the DocuColor 40 CP user software on a W indows or Mac OS computer , the computer must be equipped with a built-in or external CD-R OM drive. Window s T o print to the DocuColor 40 CP, you need: • A W indows-based computer with an 80486, AMD, or P entium processor • Windows 95, Windo ws 3.

3 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 3. Read the End User License A greement. If y ou agree with the terms and conditions o f the agreement, click A ccept. Y ou must click Accept before setup can continue. If you click D ecline, you are prompted to either continue with setup or exit.

5 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 10. Using a maximum o f 20 character s, enter a name f or the DocuColor 40 CP (or leav e the default name) in the Printer Name bo x. This name will be used in the P rinters and queue windows. N OTE : Entering more than 20 characters may cause printing problems with some network applications.

7 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 4. In your computer’ s BIOS settings, set P arallel Port Mode to ECP . T o access the BIOS settings, restart the computer and press the key indicated on your monitor as soon as the computer starts up.

9 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer T O PREPARE THE PORT FOR PARALLEL PORT PRINTING : 1. Click the Start button, point to Settings , and click Control P anel. 2. Double-click System. The System P roperties window appears. 3. Click the Device Manager tab .
10 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 8. From the Manuf acturer s list, select “(Standard port types).” Fr om the Models list, select “ECP Printer P ort” ( not Printer P ort). Click OK. 9. Click OK in the (LPT1) Properties dialog bo x.
11 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer T O SET UP IPX/SPX PRINTING : 1. Open the Window s 95 Control P anel. 2. Double-click the Network icon. Make sure that IPX/SPX-compatible P rotocol and TCP/IP pr otocol are both listed in the Installed N etwork Components section.
12 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer N OTE : Do not select A uto. Doing so may not select the F rame T ype specified on the DocuColor 40 CP. 6. Click OK and close the Network Contr ol P anel. T O SET UP IPX (N OVELL ) PRINTING WITH W INDOWS 95: 1.
13 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 7. In the Add P ort dialog bo x, verify that the netw ork path is updated and click OK. Y ou are ready to print from the workstation. Y our print jobs are transmitted to the specified print queue on the N ovell file server .
14 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer Y ou are prompted to restart W indows after this procedur e, so be sure to save any documents. T O PREPARE YOUR COMPUTER FOR SMB PRINTING : 1. Click Start, choose Settings, and click Contr ol P anel.
15 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 5. Select “Enable WINS Resolution” and enter the TCP/IP addr ess of the WINS Name Server . The T CP/IP address of the WINS N ame Server is listed on the Configuration P age in the N etwork Setup section.
16 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 5. Expand the lev els to locate your printer and the print connection (Print, Hold, or Direct) to which y ou want to print. The printer name you are bro wsing for is the Server N ame listed under N etwork S etup on the Configuration P age.

Insert the User So ftwar e CD into the CD-ROM drive . 3. In the Window s Progr am Manager , choose Run from the File menu, and then click Brows e .
19 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer Setting the DocuColor 40 CP as the default printer with Windo ws 3.1x Y ou can specify the DocuColor 40 CP as the default printer . Many Windo ws applications use the default printer when you choose the P rint command.
20 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer T O SELECT A PRINTER PORT : 1. In the Control P anel windo w , double-click the Printers icon. 2. In the Printers windo w , select the DocuColor 40 CP in the Installed Printers list bo x. 3. Click Connect.

In the Main group o f the Window s Progr am Manager , double-click the Window s Setup icon. 2. From the Options menu, choose Change Sy stem Settings.
22 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 9. In the A vailable queues list bo x, select the server and queue name that corr espond to the DocuColor 40 CP. 10. Click the Capture b utton, then click the Close button. The Connect dialog box is displayed with the network path to the D ocuColor 40 CP.
23 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer Y ou must click Y es before setup can continue. If you click Decline, y ou are prompted to either continue with setup or exit. 4. Click Read to view the README file . When y ou are finished, close the README file and click Next.

If you ar e installing from the installer files y ou downloaded with the Installer W ebT ool, in the Directories bo x, open the PrntdrvPs_drvrWIN_NT4x folder s.
25 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 10. Indicate whether you w ant the printer installed as a shared printer . Click Next. If you select Shar ed, you must also enter a Shar e N ame for the printer (or leave the default name) and make selections from the list of operating systems used by client workstations.
26 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 13. Select No to printing the test page and click Next. Y ou will print the test page after you finish configuring the printer . The necessary files are installed to your hard disk. When installation is complete, the P roperties dialog box appears.
27 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer Completing the Window s NT 4.0 parallel port connection The parallel port cable connects the DocuColor 40 CP to a single computer . Once you have installed the Adobe P ostScript printer driver and the DocuColor 40 CP PPD, complete the setup for parallel port printing.
28 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer The T CP/IP P rotocol and M icrosoft T CP/IP P rinting software should alr eady be installed on the W indows NT workstation. T O SET UP TCP/IP AND LPR PRINTING FOR W INDOWS NT 4.0: 1. Open the Properties dialog bo x for the DocuColor 40 CP, and click the P orts tab.
29 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 4. Enter the IP address o f the DocuColor 40 CP. If your network uses D omain N ame S ervices (DNS), enter the DNS name assigned to the DocuColor 40 CP instead of the IP address. 5. Press T ab and type the internal name of the DocuColor 40 CP.
30 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer Completing the Window s NT 4.0 IPX (Nov ell) connection Complete the setup for the IPX (N ovell) connection as follo ws: • Configure the N o vell network and file server for handling DocuColor 40 CP print jobs.
31 Setting up the DocuColor 40 CP as a P ostScript printer 4. Double-click the print connection defined for the DocuColor 40 CP. If the N etW are server does not have a suitable driver for the DocuColor 40 CP you may be asked if you want to set up the printer on your workstation.

34 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 14. Choose Properties fr om the Printer menu and click the P orts tab . The N etW are queue you just connected to is listed and checked as a port for the DocuColor 40 CP. 15. Click the General tab and click Print T est Page .
35 Installing DocuColor 40 CP softw are Downloader and Print Calibr ator The installers for the two DocuColor utilities (Do wnloader and P rint Calibrator) are the same.

37 Using the so ftwar e for the fir st time T O CONFIGURE THE CONNECTION TO THE D OCU C OLOR 40 CP: 1. Launch Downloader or Print Calibr ator by double-clicking its icon or b y choosing it from the Start>Pr ograms menu. 2. Click OK. 3. Enter the appropriate inf ormation for the DocuColor 40 CP.
38 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer Server Name —Enter the IP addr ess (or DNS name) of the DocuColor 40 CP. New De vice —Enter the name of the device that the DocuColor 40 CP is connected to: DocuColor. This device name appears in the P rinter Setup section of the Configuration page.
39 Copying color files fr om the User So ftwar e CD Cop ying color files from the U ser So ftw ar e CD Y ou can copy additional color files from the U ser Software CD to your har d disk. Many of the files are P ostScript files that you can download and print using Downloader .
40 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer Installing the DocuColor 40 CP ICM printer pro file f or Window s 95 U se the following procedur e to install the DocuColor 40 CP ICM printer profile. N OTE : The ICM printer profile should not be installed for printing with the Microsoft Office 97 suite of applications.

In the WindowsS ystemColor folder , the icon for the ICM profile is now white, indicating that it is installed. Installing files for A dobe Photoshop If you use Adobe P hotoshop, install the S eparation T ables and the Calrgb.
42 Installing User So ftwar e on a Window s Computer 5. In the Separation T ables dialog box, click Load. 6. Bro wse to the A dobe Photoshop folder , select the appropriate file , and click Open (Photoshop 4.0) or OK (Photoshop 3.0 or 2.5). Select the Dc40cpp .
43 Copying color files fr om the User So ftwar e CD 4. For Photoshop 4.0, fr om the File menu, choose Color Settings, and fr om the Color Settings submenu, choose Monitor Setup. For Photoshop 3.0 or Photoshop 2.5, fr om the File menu, choose Prefer ences, and from the Pr eferences submenu, choose Monitor Setup.

57 Setting up W ebT ools DocuColor W ebT ools allow you to manage your DocuColor 40 CP remotely from the Internet or from your company ’ s intranet. The DocuColor 40 CP has its own home page, from which you are able to select fr om a variety of functions including W ebSetup , S tatus, W ebSpooler , W ebLink, and Installer .
58 Downloading Installer s with W ebT ools If any of the conditions listed in S tep 2 are not currently set, y ou must change them (as described in the Configur ation Guide ) befor e you can use W ebT ools. T O SET UP CLIENT WORKSTATIONS FOR USE OF W EB T OOLS : 1.
