6 6-1 Understanding calibr ation Calibrating your F iery SI ensures consistent, reliable color output. Y ou can calibrate the F iery SI in several ways: • Scan a page from the copier glass and use automatic calibration (A utoCal ™ ). • Connect a densitometer to your F iery SI and calibrate it from the Control P anel.
6 6-2 Color Calibration How calibr ation w orks Success in obtaining satisfactory print quality from a digital color printer depends on many factors. Among the most important are establishing and maintaining optimal toner densities. Density is a measure of the light absorbed by a surface.
6 6-3 Understanding calibr ation • DIC—J apanese press standard. • Euroscale—E uropean pr ess standard. • Linear—Results in output that divides the maximum measured density for each color into equal density steps to provide an ev en distribution of tones over the copier’ s density range.
6 6-4 Color Calibration Set up a standar d printing environment in Control P anel S etup by selecting printing options that correspond to the way you usually print. Then print one or more standard color pages. Y ou can print the Color Charts from the Control P anel and the Color Reference pages that ar e included with your user software.
6 6-5 Understanding calibr ation T O CONNECT THE X-R ITE DTP32: 1. Plug the square end o f the interface cable (lik e a modular phone plug) into the I/O port on the side of the X-Rite D TP32. 2. Attach the r ound 8-pin mini-connector to the modem port on the back of y our Macintosh.
6 6-6 Color Calibration 3. If you ar e using a Macintosh, attach the round 4-pin mini-connector to one o f the Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) ports. The Macintosh ADB port pro vides power to the DTP32.
