13 1 Before Using the Machine Welcome to the Xerox family of Work Centre produc ts. This System Administ ration Gui de provides detailed infor mation, t echnical specifica tions and procedures for using the in tegral featu res of the machine.
1 Befor e Using the Mach ine 14 Languag e Displayed on t he T ouch Screen The language of the touch screen can be changed in the foll owing two ways: • To change the language for tempor ary use, press the <Langu age> button on the control panel, and then sel ect the requir ed language.
Conventi ons 15 T ext in [Square Brac ket s] Indicates the names of the screens, ta bs, buttons, feat ures, and option cat egories . Square brackets are also u sed when referring to fil e and folder names on a PC. For example: • Select [Origi nal Type] on the [Image Quali ty] screen.

17 2 Paper an d Other Media The machine i s desi gned to use various paper types and ot her medi a. This c hapter provides i nformation on loa ding paper and ot her types of media i nto t he machine . Loading Pape r The machine can be equipped with various paper trays.
2 Paper and Other M edia 18 NOTE: When chan ging t he size or type of st ock in the tra y , refer to Paper T ray Settings in the Set ups chapter on p age 70. 3. Load the p aper neatly and ti ghtly against the lef t-hand si de of the tray . NOTE: Do not load p aper above the maxim um fill li ne.

2 Paper and Other M edia 20 High Cap acity Feeder (T r ay 6) The High Capacity Feeder (Tr ay 6) allows you to load up to 2,000 sheets of paper. NOTE: Y ou cannot load custom s ize p aper into the High Cap acity Feeder . 1. Pull out T ray 6. 2. Remove the screw from the guide at the back of the tray , and remove the gui de fr om the tr ay .
Load ing Pape r 21 6. Pull up the end-gui de lev er along th e slot (1), a djust the positi on of the lever t o the size of the paper (2), and then push the lever back i nto it s positio n (3). NOTE: Do not use the slot at the lef t of the 8.5” slot on the end gui de.
2 Paper and Other M edia 22 En vel ope T r ay The Envelope Tray allo ws you to stack up to 43 mm of envelopes. NOTE: Insert the Envelope T ray in the slot for T ray 1 only . Insertin g the Envelope T ray in any ot her slot will damage it . 1. Pull out the Envel ope T ray .
Storing and H andlin g Paper 23 S toring and Han dling Paper Always use high qualit y, xerogr aphic grade paper in the machi ne. Damaged, cur led, or damp paper can cause j ams and image quali ty problems.

29 3 Maintenance This chapter des cribes the main tenance tas ks that ar e requir ed periodical ly to mainta in the machine in proper worki ng order. Ordering Su pplies A variety of suppli es ar e availabl e for t he machine, includi ng machine-s pecific consumables such as a toner ca rtridge, a drum cartridge, staple cartridg es and refill s.
3 Mainten ance 30 Document Glass and Document Feeder Glass Clean the document cover and document glass monthly t o prevent s treaks, s mears, and other mark s from appeari ng on copi es or pri nts. I f the opti onal do cument feeder i s install ed, also clean the fil m and document feeder glass.
Replac ing the Dr um Cartri dge 31 Removing the O ld Drum Cartridge 1. Make sure t hat the machine is not operating, and open the front cover . 2. Open the byp ass tray and then Cover A whi le lif ti ng up the release lev er .
3 Mainten ance 32 3. Insert the cart ridge as shown in the illust ration, and sl ide it into the machine until i t clicks. 4. Pull the cartridg e tape strai ght out without breaking it . 5. Push the car tridge agai n to ensure it is posi tioned correctly .
Replac ing th e Toner Ca rtridge 33 Replacing the T oner Cartridge The toner c artridge is a customer replaceabl e unit. The touch screen will di splay a message when the cartridg e needs to be repl aced. Removing the O ld T oner Cartridge 1. Make sure t hat the machine is not operating, and open the front cover .
3 Mainten ance 34 Insertin g the New T oner Ca rtridge 1. Remove the new toner cartridge from the box. Before removi ng the cartridge from the bag, shake it from side to side to evenly distr ibute the toner inside. 2. Insert the cart ridge as shown in the illust ration, and sl ide it into the machine until i t clicks.
Loading Sta ples in the O ffice Finish er LX (Optiona l) 35 3. After removing the st aple cartri dge, check the in side of the fini sher for any remaini ng staples. 4. Pinch bot h sides of the empty stap le case with your fingers (1), and remove the st aple case fr om th e cartri dge (2) .
3 Mainten ance 36 1. Make sure that the machine is not operati ng, and open the front cover of the finisher . 2. Hold the stapl e cartridge by t he lever R1 and pull it to the r ight. 3. Hold the stapl e cartridge by t he orange lever and r emove it from the finis her.
Loading th e Book let Staple s in the Office Finis her LX (Opt ional) 37 Loading th e Booklet St aples in t he Office Finishe r LX (Option al) If the opt ional Booklet Maker is i nstalled, a message appears on the touch sc reen when the unit runs out of st aples.
3 Mainten ance 38 message stati ng to empty the container appears aga in, a nd this c an cause a breakdown of the machine. NOTE: Make sure you empty the hole punch waste cont ainer when the power is on. If you empty the cont ainer when the power is of f, the machine wil l not recogniz e that the contai ner has been emptied.
39 4J o b S t a t u s This chapter cont ains informat ion on the job st atus screens and the f eatures avail able. Job St atus This featur e allows y ou to chec k the progr ess of inco mplete jobs, or displ ay the d etailed informati on of completed jobs.
4 Job St atus 40 Active J obs This screen all ows you to view incomplete jobs that are waiting, i n progress, or suspended. It al so allows you to view Secure Prin t, Sample Set, or Delay ed Print documents that are cur rently stored in the machi ne. You can see job attrib utes or promote/del ete jobs.
Complete d Jobs 41 Delete Cancels a job that is being processed or on hold, or deletes a stored document from the machine’s memory. Promote Job Promotes a j ob to be p rocessed immediately after the one bei ng pro cessed. Last Original Indicates the current scan batch is th e last in a job to be scanned.
4 Job St atus 42 Job Attributes Select a job o n the [Complet ed Jobs] s creen to di splay the j ob attribut es. The at tributes displayed vary dependi ng on t he type of job. Show Children J obs Select thi s butt on to show all child job s for t he select ed job.
Secure Pri nt Job s & More 43 Charge Print The Charge Print f eature temporar ily stor es documents on the machi ne per billi ng ID. The feature p revents unauthorized printing by requiri ng users to lo g in to the machine before print ing.
4 Job St atus 44 Private Char ge Print The Privat e Charge Print featu re temporari ly store s documents per user ID, unti l a use r logs in and manually pr ints them from the machine’ s control panel . This feature only displays documents of a logged -in us er, and t hus prov ides se curity an d priv acy to documents stored in the machine.
Secure Pri nt Job s & More 45 3. Select [ Document List ]. 4. Enter t he p asscode f or t he user ID, and sel ect [Confirm]. 5. Select a document to pri nt or de lete. 6. Select t he requir ed opti on. Refresh Refreshes t he displayed infor mation.
4 Job St atus 46 • Select All - Sel ects all documen ts in the list. • Delete - Dele tes a document selected in the list. • Print - Prints a document select ed in the list. After p rinting, the document will be deleted. Delayed Print This feat ure allo ws you t o store doc uments on the ma chine for print ing at a later t ime.
Secure Pri nt Job s & More 47 Pages Displays t he number of pr inted, sc anned, sen t, or r eceived pages . Select All Selects all t he documents in the [Public Mailbox] . Print Prints a document s elected in the list . Delete Deletes a document select ed in the list.
4 Job St atus 48 Address Book Displays a page whi ch allows you to select a r ecipient from t he Address Book. For informati on on how t o select a r ecipient from the Address Book, r efer t o the Fax chapt er in the User Guide.
49 5 Machine S t atus This chapter descr ibes how to chec k the machine s tatus, bil ling met er, and status of consumables. It also descri bes how to print va rious report s/list s and how to access the System Administra tion mode.
5 Machi ne Stat us 50 1. Press the < Machine S t atus> button on the control p anel. 2. Select the [Machine Informati on] tab. 3. Select the requir ed option. General Info rmation This featur e allows you to view user support informati on, the machine ’s serial number and configurat ion, and the sof tware versions of the machine components.
Machi ne Information 51 Print Mode This feature al lows you to change the default printer mode and emula tion parameter settings. For th e lists of emulati on parame ters and t heir values, r efer to Emulation Par ameters in the Appen dix cha pter on page 427.

Machi ne Information 57 Automatically Printed Repor t s/ List s This section descr ibes the variou s reports/l ists that can be pri nted automatical ly. Job History Report Lists the last 50 jobs processed on the machine. For more information, ref er to Job History Repo rt on page 73 .

To access al l feat ures on this scr een, you must enter the mach ine in t he Syst em Administra tion mode.
Tools 61 Accounting This menu allows you to configur e accounting fu nctions and view jobs perfor med by each account. For more informati on on the features avail able, refer to Accounting on page 132 . Authentication/Security Set tings This menu allows you to set up the authe ntication and security features.
