2 Getting St arted Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 2-1 2 Getting S t arted Before you star t to use your machine, there are a number of tasks to perfo rm. Using the instructions provided in thi s chapter, unpack and setup your machine.

Make sure that the machi ne has been packed wit h the following items: NOT E: The appearance of the power cord and the t elephone line cord may dif fer dependin g on your country’ s specification s.
2 Getting St arted Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 2-3 2. Remove the pac king tape from the fr ont, back, and sides of the machine. Selecting a Lo cation Select a level, stable p lace with adequate space f or air circulati on around t he machine. All ow extra space for opening doors and trays.

Remove the Print Cart ridge from it s bag and remove the p aper protecting the cart ridge by pulling the p acking tap e. 3. Thoroughly roc k the cartridge 5 or 6 times t o distribut e the toner .
2 Getting St arted Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 2-5 4. Unfold the Print Cartridge handle. Hold t he handle and insert the cartr i dge into the machine until it snap s into place. NOTE: When inserting or removing the Print Cart ridge take care not to scr atch it agains t the mach ine frame.
2 Getting Started 2-6 Xerox Pha ser 3200MFP Loading Pap er The tray c an hold a maxi mum of 250 sh eets of 20 lb ( 75 g/m 2 ) plai n paper. 1. Pull the t ray toward you t o open. 2. Squeeze the rear guide and pul l it out to extend the t ray . 3. Fan the edges of t he paper st ack to sep arate the p ages.

NOTE: Do not push t he guides hard agains t the pap er stack to caus e the stac k to bend. If you do not adjust t he p aper side gui de correctly , paper ja m s may occur .
2 Getting Started 2-8 Xerox Pha ser 3200MFP Making Connecti ons 1. Plug one en d of the supplied telephone li ne cord into the LINE jack on the machine and the other end int o the telephone wall socket. 2. Plug the cord of your extensi on phone or answering machine i nto the EX T .
2 Getting St arted Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 2-9 connected t o the EXT . jack on the machi ne, the ext ernal equi pment will fail t o ring when receiving an incoming cal l as the mac hine is designed to operate with the l atest technol ogy. To prevent this incompat ibility, use two-wi re (newer equipment) te lephones or answering machines.
2 Getting Started 2-10 Xerox Phase r 3200MFP 3. Connect a USB cable to the USB por t on your machine. Connect t o the USB port on your computer. 4. If you want to use a LAN cable, purchase LAN cable and connect it to the LAN connector on your machine.

2 Getting St arted Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 2-19 Changing the Dial Mode This setting ma y not be available depending on your count ry. If you cannot reach this opt ion, your machine does not support this feat ure. You can set the dial mode for your machine to either ton e dialling or pulse dialling.

Activat ing this mode extends the lif e of the Print Cartridge beyond what one would experie nce in the normal mode, but it reduces print qualit y.

3 Network Se tup Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 3-1 3 Network Setup Connecting your machine to a network is avail able only on the Phaser 3200MFP/N . This chap ter gives you step-by-s tep instructio ns for setting up your machine for networ k connections.
3 Network Setup 3-2 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P Introductio n Once you have con nected your machine t o a network with an RJ-45 Et hernet cable, you can share the machin e with other network user s. You need to set up the network pro tocols on the machine to use it as your network pri nter.
3 Network Se tup Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 3-3 Configuring TCP/IP Your machine can b e set up with a variety of TCP/IP network infor m ation, such as an IP address, a subnet mask, and a gateway. There are severa l ways in which your machine can be assigned a TCP/IP address, depending on your network.

4 Paper H andli ng 4-2 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P Selecting Prin t Materials You can prin t on a vari ety of pr int materials, such as plain paper, envelopes, labels, and transparencies. Always use print materials that meet the guidelines f or use with this machine.
4 Paper Han dling Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 4-3 Guidelines for Pap er and S pecial Materials When select ing or loading paper, envel opes, or other s pecial mater ial, keep these guideline s in mind: • Always use paper and other materials that conform with the specifications listed under Paper Specifi cations on page 11-9 .
4 Paper H andli ng 4-4 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P • For labels: – Verify that their adhe sive material c an tolerate a f using temperature of 392 o F (200 o C) for 0.1 second. – Make sure that ther e is no exposed adhesive material bet ween them. Exposed areas can cause labels to peel off during pri nting, which can cause paper jams.
4 Paper Han dling Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 4-5 Load ing Pa per Proper paper loading hel ps prevent paper jams and ensure trouble-fr ee printi ng. Do not remove the paper in the tr ay while a job is print ing.
4 Paper H andli ng 4-6 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P NOT E: • If you exper ience jams with car d stock feeding, turn the paper over and tr y again. • Manually loading paper and pressing Start to start feeding is only availabl e with PC printing.

5 Copyi ng 5-2 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P Making Copies Loading Pap er for Copy ing The instructi ons for loading copy material s are the same whether you are printing, faxi ng, or copying. For further detai ls, see Loading Paper on page 2-6 NOT E: For copying, you can only use Letter , A4, Legal, Folio, Executive, B5, A5, or A6 sized print mater ials.

Place the document face down on the document glass and al ign it at the t op left c orner of the gl ass. NOTE: • Make sure that no documents are in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
5 Copyi ng 5-4 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P NOT E: • You can cancel the copy job during an operation. Press Stop/Clear , and the copying will st op. • Dust on the document glass may cause black spots on the printou t. Always keep it clean. See Cleani ng the Scan U nit on page 9-5 .
5 Copyin g Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 5-5 Selecting Cop y Options Basic Copy Fe atures The buttons on the control panel le t you select all basic copy optio ns: brightne ss, document type, copy size, and copy quanti ty. Set the following options for the current copy job bef ore pressing Start to mak e copies.
5 Copyi ng 5-6 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P Reduce/Enlarge Using the Reduce/Enlarge but ton will reduce or enl arge the siz e of a copied image from 25% to 400% when you copying from the document glas s or from 25% to 100% from the ADF. To select from the predefi ned copy siz es: 1.
5 Copyin g Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 5-7 Special Copy Features You can use the followi ng copy features by pressing Favor ite Copy button: • Off : Prints in normal mode. • Clone : Prints m ultiple image c opies from t he origin al docu ment on a single page.
5 Copyi ng 5-8 Xerox Pha ser 3200MF P Collation Copying This specia l copy feature is avai lable only when you load documents in the ADF. 1. Load the d ocuments to be c opied in the ADF . 2. Press Favori te Copy until “Copy Collate” appear s on the bottom line of the display and press Enter .
5 Copyin g Xer ox Phaser 3200MFP 5-9 ID Card Copying You can copy both sides of the ID Card to a singl e side of paper. When you copy usi ng this feature , the machine pri nts one side of the car d on the upper half of the paper and the other side on the lower half without reducing the size of t he original.
5 Copyi ng 5-10 Xerox Phase r 3200MFP Poster Copying This special copy feature can be applied only when you place a do cument on the document g lass. If a document is det ected in the ADF, the Pos ter copying feature does not work. 1. Place the document to be copi ed on the document glass and clo s e the cover .

Changing the Default Set tings The cop y options, i ncluding lighten/dar ken, original t ype, copy size and copy quantity , can be set to the most frequent ly used modes.
