975-0390-01-01 11 F reedom Inverter/Charger Co nfiguration Adjusting F eature Settings The Power and Select buttons can be used to: • change the char ging current setting, • change the inverter mode setting, • disable or e nable the audible alarm , • change the shutdown setting, and • return to factory default settings.

16 F reedom HF Owner’ s Guide Operating in Shor e P ower Mode The Freedom HF operates in shore pow er mode when an AC source (a generator or utility power) is present at the AC input terminals. When the AC source is within operating range, the Freedom HF unit bypasses inverter function and powers the appliances connected to the unit.
975-0390-01-01 17 Operating in Shore P ower Mode Operating in Inverter Mode The Freedom HF is in inverter mode when shore power is not presently available and the unit is using the batte ry ( by inverting DC to AC) to power the appliances connected to the Freedom HF.

The wattage rating applies to resistive load s such as incandescent lights.

24 F reedom HF Owner’ s Guide Battery Charging Battery charging is possible only when shore power is pr esent and the Freedom HF unit is c onnected to a battery (or battery bank). The frequency of battery ch arging is determined by how much ener gy in the battery is used up during invertin g.

32 F reedom HF Owner’ s Guide Common Problems Buzz in Audio Equipment Some inexpensive s tereo systems ma y emit a buzzing noise from their loudspeakers when operated from the Fr eedom HF. This oc curs because the power supply in the audio system does not ad equately filter the modified sine wave produced by the inverter .

W arnings do not affect operation. W ith the exception of the error code s displayed on the screen, only the audible alarm can be tur ned ON or OFF .

975-0390-01-01 37 T roubleshooting Re ference Low output voltage (96 volts AC–104 volts AC) during Inverter mode. Y ou are using a voltmeter that cannot accurately read the RMS voltage of a modified sine wave. Use a true RMS reading voltme ter such as the Fluke 87.
